The Human-Animal Connection is one of the best books I read this year! I was always an animal lover, but I didn't quite understand the full complexity of animals' personalities and behaviors until I had the pleasure of reading this book. The book itself is a thorough read, you most definitely need to be invested and interested in the science behind animal psychology, but it also provides plenty of proof for its claims; One particular thing I love about this book is that it successfully balances scientific data with more endearing stories and images of rescue animals, their trauma, and their healing. Last, but not least, this book taught me an invaluable lesson about getting to know myself through bonding with animals. Now, I feel like the simple act of stopping in the middle of the street to pet an animal is healing and beneficial for both of us, and I also realize that the friendships I have with my friends' and family members' pets are more real and significant than I could ever imagine. I recommend this book to anyone whose New Year's resolution is to destress and live a more purposeful, wholesome life.

"It takes patience to train a dog. And even more to train a human."

The Human-Animal Connection takes concepts you have heard of in the human world (communing with the dead, invisible spirit bonds, etc.) and applies them to non-human animals as well. This book could be particularly useful to people who practice alternatives to modern veterinary medicine such as pet psychics.

Here are some quotes to give you a feel for the writing and flavor of the book.

"Before trying to communicate with an animal that has passed, I find it is best to wait about three days, to let them settle into their new reality."

"When an animal has passed and I am asked to do an animal communication session with one who has crossed over, every animal I have spoken to has asked their family to love again."

"In addition to a Group Soul, I also believe animals have an Individual Soul Connection."

"Soul Communication is possible across great distances."

"A name is not just an inert collection of letters; it is a living force."

"Metaphorically speaking, if there is a Great Scorecard in the Sky, we are flunking when it comes to how humans have treated the animal kingdom."

I know there is a connection/communication between humans and my animals, my pets, but I just hadn’t thought about it in the way this book presents it. My baby goats connect with my younger foster kids in a way that both will sit quietly together for an hour. My basset hound talks back to me. Our cat sits quietly on my husband’s chest when he is sick. Once I read through the book, I could see more clearly just how my animals try to and do communicate with me and others. Sometimes I just need to pay more attention. I need to respond more to the whys of their behaviors and the possibility that they are trying to tell me something and I am just not listening.

If you don’t believe that there is a strong communication between animals and humans, just read this book. After reading about all the examples and maybe even trying some yourself, I am convinced you will become a strong believer and a better animal lover. In doing so, you and your pets will enjoy each other soooooo much more!

A very educational resource for anyone who deals with, works with, or plays with animals. As we all exist together, it's important to reflect on how to all get along and respect one another, this book helps. A very detailed look at experiences, animals - both wild and domesticated, as well as our own role in a world with animals. Connecting with ourselves is as important as seeing another living soul as they are and listening to what they have to say in the language they speak.

Filled with facts, experiences, and valuable opinions, this offers a tremendous value to all who read it.

This book is absolutely fascinating. The author shares insight supported by science on connecting to animals as well as to ourselves.

The Human-Animal Connection is for anyone looking to strengthen the connection to their senses and self. It promotes the how-to of learning to better connect with our 4 leggeds.

Each chapter features 5 questions for the reader to think about. These questions offer food-for-thought.

I highly recommend The Human-Animal Connection.

Fantastic read! Was very enlightening for an empath like myself. I've felt a strong connection to animals for a very long time, have done extremely well gaining trust in my vet nurse role and this book added to that!
Body language, noises, looks, can all be interpreted and understood with the right knowledge. Highly recommend!

“Somewhere along the line, we bought into the idea that, as humans, we were separate from and superior to all other animals.”

The truth is we are not. We are just different from other “animals.”

I received the ARC ebook of The Human-Animal Connection for this review.

The Human-Animal Connection by Genie Joseph is a book about relationships: relationships between humans and animals. It explores the thirty-three principles of Genie’s way of going deep into the world of animals, communicating with them and connecting with them.

It’s part psychology, part self-help, and part guide to the world of animals.

For example, there’s this theory:
“These are the times when we’re tempted to call the dog bad. But these are behavioural issues; bad doings, not bad beings. Once we stop viewing animals as either good or bad, we can apply that same approach to ourselves.”

Genie emphasizes that to connect with animals, either your pets or any other animal in general, you need to connect with yourself.

Animals need you to be present. In the moment. Only when you can feel yourself, your true self, you can do so. Then, you can connect with their souls.

The Human-Animal Connection is mostly a compilation of stories. Heartwarming stories from around the world and Genie’s own experiences in animal shelters, rescue centres and private consultations.

It shares tales of how animals have emotions and desires. And that they have a right to express their true nature. All claims are backed with research and references.

Animals don’t use words, of course. They have a whole another way of silent communication.

There were a few examples that seemed superstitious practices/rituals or similar to psychics. Those parts were a bit put-off for me.

Apart from that, I liked much of the book.

I’ll say: read the book if you share (or want to) a bond with animals. You’ll fall in love with animals. If you don’t want to, stay away from this.
