Michael Wagner is the author of more than 90 books for children which include the much loved Maxx Rumble series (20 books), six books about a delightfully silly and warm-hearted family called The Undys, the CBCA Honour Picture Book of the Year, Dirt by Sea, Why I Love Footy, Why I Love Summer, Bear Make Den (co-written with his partner, Jane Godwin) and many more. He's also self-published a handful of titles including: Pig Dude, Family Hugs and the So Wrong series.
Prior to becoming a children’s author, Michael worked for ten years as radio broadcaster with the ABC, wrote and produced award-winning animation, penned everything from advertising copy to songs and comedy, and grew up in a Housing Commission flat.
This book has a good mixed layout of text, drawings, comic pages and full illustrations. Good fur reading on your own but harder to share as class read out loud. Action packed adventure stories but Ted needed to be built up more, a more rounded character. 2022 pop sugar reading challenge- a book about a found family
I found it strangely lacking in warmth and engagement for a children's first chapter book. I really wanted to care about Ted, because he's a cute little teddy that goes out having wild adventures and being brave and tough. But this teddy - not quite for me. Great design though.
This book is a funny little read. An action-adventure loving toy bear who saves the world due to having been saved himself. It is weirdly like Man vs Wild and thoroughly enjoyable. It's layout stands out as it swings between narrative and graphic novel.
