A lavishly designed, full-color photographic record of that American shopping institution, the thrift store. The culmination of a decade of “thrifting” by renowned book artist Emily K. Larned, Thrift Store contains photographs and essays that celebrate the joys of second-hand shopping. Originally published as a limited-edition artist book, this beautifully done trade edition has been expanded to include new photographs and insights that demonstrate the appeal of the thrift store in contemporary America. Emily K. Larned is a Brooklyn-based book artist and the vice president of Booklyn, a not-for-profit artist alliance. Her handmade artist books are included in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Smithsonian, the Library of Congress, Tate Britain, and the Getty.
Not sure what I was expecting but this wasn't it. I think I was looking more for something along the lines of great thrift store finds with a picture of the item and a story about how excited the person was, that this was soemthing they had been looking for for years and they found it and it was an amazing price, ect.
This book is mostly/all pictures of items that the author photographe's in thrift stores. Stuff like a shelf of clear wine glasses and oh look, a picture of some clear drinking glasses. Sorry, but clear glasses on a shelf dosen't make that great of a photo, let alone 2 photos of similar uninteresting objects in such a small book. Most of the photos are like this. Pictures of a row of curtain's or shirt's that she took because of the color scheme.
I asked for this as a christmas present. If I had known what this was going to be I would have asked for a different book.
