Barb Karg is a twenty-five-year veteran journalist, author, graphic designer, and screenwriter. Karg has written four feature-length films, dozens of books, and designed and laid out hundreds of books, magazines, and catalogs. When not writing, she continues to work as an editor, designer, and layout specialist. Karg lives with her better half, Rick, and their five opinionated four-legged children in the Pacific Northwest.

Yazar(lar)ı yürekten alkışlıyorum. Kolektif bir bir gerizekalılık örneği. Vampirler hakkında belki bilmediğim bir şey varsa diye bir hevesle aldım ama elde ettiğim tek şey kendi halkını kazığa oturtan Vlad Drakula savunuculuğu ve Fatih Sultan Mehmet nefreti oldu. Yazarlar, ya da bölümü yazan kişi Osmanlı sarayında yetişen Vlad’ın oldukça kapsamlı ve iyi bir eğitim aldığını doğrularken bir sonraki cümlede korkunç koşullarda bir hapis hayatı çektiğini söylüyor. Bir başka paragrafta Eflak’ın 500 soylusunu kazığa oturtmasını abartılı bulup sayı daha azdı diye geçiştiriyor, sanki KAZIĞA OTURTMAK bayağı normalmiş gibi.

İstanbul’u fethedip avrupanın içine yürüyen Fatih’i ne işse göt kadar Eflak korkutmuş. Böyle bir şey olabilir mi?

Zaten bu salak kaçtıktan sonra yönetimi Fatih Güzel Radu’ya yani Vlad’ın kardeşine devrediyor.


Tamamen tarihi taraflı bir şekilde yorumlamış, davranışlarının sonuçlarını kabullenemeyen ucube bir adamı kahraman olarak göstermiş yazar.

Vampirler hakkında da doğru bilgiler vermiyor. Vampir efsaneleri arasına KAPPA koymuş. Japon su şeytanı yani. Chupacabra falan da eklemişler dolu gözüksün diye.

Dracula karakterlerinin incelenmesi de baştan aşağı hatalıydı.

Vampir fixationı olan bir arkadaşıma kitap yazar mısın desem muhtemelen 100 kat daha iyi bir eser ortaya çıkartırdı. Ben de böyle bok gibi bir şeyi okumak zorunda kalmazdım.

I thought this was going to be a mind-blowing read about the history of vampires in our culture. It was interesting but, not mind blowing. They did go into some of the legends of the "undead" and there were some interesting tidbits. They did elaborate on some of the early literary vampire novels and did go into some depth about their history. They were very thorough about listing some vampire novels, films, and TV shows. Interesting things that I did not know: in the late 70's an author by the name of Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's Hotel Transylvania series. She is credited with "humanizing" the vampire. They discussed different depictions of the the vampire in film some comedic, mostly serious interpretations.
They even mentioned actors who are in "The Vampire Hall of Fame" of course they named the trifecta of Dracula portrayals: Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing. There were others mentioned such as: Gary Oldman, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Wesley Snipes, Gerard Butler (yum).
If you are a newbie to the vampire legacy this is a very good read for you. If you are very familiar with the lores, legends and mythology of the vampire; there will be some interesting items in here. If you are totally immersed in the whole vampire culture, this will not hold much interest.

Bir akşam sırf almış olmak için kaptım bu kitabı raftan. Vampirlere özel bir ilgim yok; ütopik, young adult veya vampir kitapları da okumam. Kitabın kültürel ve sosyal yaşamda vampirlerin yüzyıllar içerisinde nasıl ele alındığını ve değiştiğini anlatacağını düşünerek okumaya başladım. Bazı bölümlerde o kadar sıkıldım ki, kitabı bitirmem yaklaşık iki yılımı aldı.
Her Yönüyle Vampir; vampir fenomenine ilgisi olan herkesin, vampir kitapları sevenlerin ve vampir-doğaüstü sinemasına ilgisi olanların çok ilgisini çekebilir. İçindeki farklı kültürlerde vampir ve vampir benzeri yaratıklardan bahsedilen ve bunu günümüz vampir algısıyla karşılaştıran bölümler, bu tür bir kaynak kitap için çok başarılı. Ama özellikle ‘sinemada vampir’ konusuna kitabın yarısından fazla yer ayrılması, sinema düşkünü olmayan okurlar için bazı noktalarda sıkıcı olabiliyor. Yine de bu kitabı okuyarak, pek çok klasikleşmiş vampir kitabı ve filminden haberdar oldum. En önemlisi ise yaklaşık 20 yıl önce televizyonda bir bölümünü izleyip, çok sevdiğim ama bunca yıldır adını hatırlayamadığım bir filmi, bu kitapta bahsi geçen vampir filmleri arasında bulmam oldu.
Çok derinlere inmeden, genel anlamda vampirler, vampirlik ve televizyon-kitap-müzik-sinema dünyasında vampirlerin yerini görmek için okunabilir.

This book is fun. The authors write humorously while they take you through vampire history. They add fun facts about movies, actors, myths and writers. Some facts are even scandalous!

A very comprehensive review of vampire legends/folklore, books, films and TV. The most amazing thing about this book is how universal the vampire is. From South America to Africa to Asia to Europe. This book also goes into the past and present of people who believed they were vampires....or at least acted like it. Very good sidebar humor in the writing too.

Oddly, some of the text is verbatim in “Vampires: The Myths, Legends and Lore”… And there’s a lot more emphasis on Dracula (the book, the background, the history) and movies than on actual folklore.

Do momentu jak autorzy opowiadają o wampirach w przeszłości, folklorze, wierzeniach czy literaturze to nawet fajne. Kiedy zaczynają mówić o filmach robi się straszliwie nudne.

After reading this book all i wanted to do was go back and read it again it has no real plot but it still id quite good since it had more of a sequence to it.
