Her pretend Amish Boyfriend is a well written and very moving and emotional book. I found myself moved to tears many times as I read this heart felt story. I was drawn like a magnet into the story almost from the beginning. The two main characters were Noah Riehl and Caroline Hartzler but all characters made this story seem so realistic and a very moving book. This is one of the best books by this Author that I’ve read. I think the main point of the book would be the importance of forgiveness and the importance of prayers and trusting God.

Caroline Hartzler’s mouth often got her in trouble. She is a very impulsive Amish girl who often speaks too quickly before thinking about what she was saying. It seemed she was always being criticized by her best friend and her parents. No matter what she did it always turned out to be the wrong thing. Caroline didn’t have a boyfriend , not that she hadn’t been interested in a certain special Amish man in the past. Then she accidentally bumped into Noah Riehl, an Amish Auctioneer and was attracted to him. Would Caroline chase him off too?

Noah Riehl has been dealt some hard knocks in his young life. He is a victim of circumstances and someone close to Noah betrayed him and lied about him. Noah hasn’t forgiven those that hurt him and over the years he has withdrawn from people . It seems that Noah is punishing himself and has turned away from God. Noah really has a good heart and a kind nature. He doesn’t want any romantic attachments but he can’t help being interested in the pretty outspoken Amish girl who ran into him.

I recommend this book to readers of Amish Romance and Christian Fiction. This is book five of Rachel J. Good’s Surprised by Love series. It could be read as a standalone but characters are carried over from other books in the series. Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend is scheduled to be released on 6/27/23.

I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions shared in this review are my own.

I have enjoyed this series set in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and the Green Valley Farmer's Market and this is a lovely addition. This is the story of two Amish people, Caroline Hartzler, whose family has a barbeque chicken stand in the market, and Noah Riehl, an auctioneer, at the market. There is an attraction between the two, but Noah's past makes him leery about getting involved with anyone, much less a love interest. But Caroline is a fixer, sometimes to a fault. I liked Noah and Caroline and was pulling for them, although I did get a little frustrated with her at times. She has a tendency to be impulsive, doing and saying things without thinking them through. I enjoyed seeing characters from prior books, especially Mrs. Vandenburg, an Englisch woman whose family started the market. Mrs. V is a wonderful and caring fighter for the rights of others and a great matchmaker with a direct line to God. This is a touching story of the how far one will go for their family and loved ones. We see the importance of forgiveness and healing relationships, especially one's relationship with God. Another great story in the series.

If he had his way, newcomer Noah Riehl would like to go to work everyday a the local Farmer's Market in Lancaster County and then go home. However, a stormy woman named Caroline changes everything for him. Caroline has recently led her team to a win in a volleyball game and has upset one of the other players. When he approaches her, Noah is nearby and before he knows it, Caroline declares that he is her boyfriend.

Although it was only for the moment, Noah and Caroline are fake dating, and it doesn't take long for their feelings towards one another to grow. Caroline works for her brother Gideon at his Market Barbecue stand and he had already experienced Caroline being distracted over a boy once before. Now that she has a new boyfriend, his busy stand is often understaffed as Caroline is frequently distracted. Meanwhile, Noah has a backstory that has become fodder for gossip, but Caroline refuses to allow that to influence how she is growing to really care for him.

This is a strong story of faith, and reclaiming that faith. In order to be in good standing with their Amish faith, both Noah and Caroline must make wise decisions that will impact their future. This was a very engaging addition to a lovely series. And of course, Mrs. Vandenburg, over the age of 90, played an important role.

Many thanks to Zebra and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend by Rachel J. Good earns a 5 star rating from me. I had read other books in this series, and it was a pleasure to revisit the market where Amish and English people have stands. Caroline reminded me of Anne of Green Gables, because she was so outgoing and so enthusiastic about life. Her mouth many times gets her in trouble. In this book she runs into a man who is the new auctioneer at a nearby booth and sparks fly. Even though Noah has a deep dark secret Caroline is able to uncover the secret and help Noah get back into a life with his family and God. ..

A Great Story

This was such a great story and one that had me connecting to its wonderful characters right off the bat.

While some may disagree, Caroline was an absolute breath of fresh air. I loved how she had a directness of saying whatever came to mind while also having such a deep and caring nature. That may sound like an oxymoron, but in her case it’s true. Reigning in her directness and impulsivity causes her some difficulty, but watching her grow in doing so was sometimes funny and sometimes painful, but also inspiring.

Noah touched my heart from the get go. There was some mystery revolving around him and his story, and I really wanted to find out what that was all about. Getting to know him and his story caused me moments of sadness, but also moments of joy, especially as I watched him and Caroline develop a beautiful friendship. Their story kept me turning pages to see how their relationship would continue to develop especially when some unexpected issues crept in.

However, a major highlight for me was a revelation that Noah experienced which was unexpected and left me completely in awe. I was touched beyond words as it had me reflecting on how great God’s love and faithfulness truly are. The story is a wonderful combination of many rich elements that deeply touched my heart and will stay with me for quite some time. I highly recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.

It was a pleasure to revisit Green Valley's Farmer's Market in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and particularly to see Mrs. Vandenberg in action again as the righter of wrongs and supreme matchmaker. I think she is my favorite character in the series.

In this book, Noah Riehl is happy that he has gotten a job selling at the Farmer's Market, where he is also learning to be an auctioneer. Noah has a past that he wants to leave behind, and this is his new beginning. He meets Caroline Hartzler, a young Amish woman, at the market. Caroline is an exuberant and high-spirited young woman who is constantly chastised for it (or so it seems to her). The two could not be more different. Caroline enlists Noah's reluctant help to discourage an unwelcome suitor.

There is more drama to come, when Noah's past becomes known, and it jeopardizes the new life he is building. Noah has another secret, though, concerning the car wreck that sent him to prison.

I enjoyed being taken back to the Valley Greens Farmers Market with Caroline and Noah’s story. We see several characters from the previous Surprised by Love series emerge as supporting roles to the main characters. Fast paced Caroline draws auctioneer Noah, who has been trying to fly under the radar from his past, into a pretend boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. Will their feelings for each other turn from fake to real and will Noah’s faith and trust in God and humanity be restored by Caroline’s friendship?

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book given to me by Zondervan and NetGalley for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is a heartwarming, emotional and joyful tale

I loved, loved Noah and Caroline’s fake boyfriend with a side of healing Amish romance. This is a heartwarming and emotional romance full of lovable, relatable and wounded characters with a light amount of angst. This one had me feeling all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering. Caroline is exuberant and energetic Amish woman and she is forever being told to be less impulsive and to be quieter to attract a suitable husband. Noah is also Amish and is working as an auctioneer at the same market where Caroline works. He is just trying to keep his head down and do his job. They meet when Caroline is rushing to work and barrels into Noah causing him to drop vintage puzzles he is carrying. Both Noah and Caroline have been wounded in their pasts and it affects how they interact with other people including each other. Circumstances keep bringing Noah and Caroline together but things are also pulling them apart. Noah and Caroline are portrayed as real, relatable people who have flaws, but are really trying to just do their best as messy fallible humans. This was a beautifully crafted story of second chances, grace, forgiveness, and love all within the beautiful backdrop of the Amish community’s faith and lifestyle as shown through sweet moments, mundane life snippets, painful pasts, friendships, and life choices. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. This is a new to me author but I am excited to add her books to my TBR list.

How do you see people thru God's eyes when they have destroyed your life?

I have enjoyed reading this series. All centered around an older English woman known as Mrs. V or Mrs. Vandenberg who owns the local market place that allows business to thrive. Amish and English work together with Mrs. V's watchful eye. She knows what is going on, who needs help, and who needs a word from God. She also bats 100 when it comes to matchmaking. She has her eye Caroline and Noah.

I have to say that what makes this series so good to me that it is character driven. Take for example Caroline. Her family runs the chicken stand at the market with the help of the rest of the family. Caroline is excited about life and the people she loves. She is very excited and loves to play volley ball and put in 100%. Her family and close friend always have to remind her to tone it down. (I actually felt put off by this but it is part of the contrast of characters building). She has a loyalty to her that I admire that drives her to push ahead without thinking about the implications. Noah has come from another community and with a big secret. He has saved the day for Caroline several times but seems to keep his emotional distance from her. It is when his secret is revealed that that their characters are tested. Of course Mrs. V is in the mix of things, always making wrongs right with the right people.

It is a sweet romance that remind us that we all need second chances, forgiveness, and someone like Mrs. V that has our back.

A special thank you to Kensington Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend by Rachel J. Good, book five in her Surprised by Love series, is an inspiring and heartwarming tale featuring two Amish people, Caroline Hartzler, whose family has a barbeque chicken stand in the market, and Noah Riehl, an auctioneer, at the Valley Greens Farmers Market. If he could, newcomer Noah Riehl would work every day and then go home; not interacting with anyone else.

Caroline has a good heart but is impulsive and often speaks without thinking about what she was saying. She seemed to always being criticized: by her best friend, her brother, and her parents; no matter what she did it always turned out to be the wrong thing. Accidentally bumping into newcomer Noah, she became intrigued and curious about him. When Caroline is backed into a corner by an unhappy opposing male volleyball player, she declares that Noah is her boyfriend. Although it was supposed to only be for a moment, Noah and Caroline are soon fake-dating, and it not long before their feelings towards one another to grow.

Noah is kind and has a really good heart despite having been dealt some hard knocks in his young life. He is a victim of circumstances as someone close to Noah betrayed him and lied about him. Noah hasn’t forgiven those that hurt him and over the years he has withdrawn from people. It seems that Noah is punishing himself and has turned away from G-d. He didn’t intend to become interested in romance, but he can’t help being interested in the pretty outspoken Amish girl who ran into him. There is an attraction between the two, but Noah's past makes him leery about getting involved with anyone, much less a love interest. But Caroline is a fixer, sometimes to a fault.

This is a strong story of faith, and reclaiming that faith. In order to be in good standing with their Amish faith, both Noah and Caroline must make wise decisions that will impact their future.
It was enjoyable to see Mrs. Vandenburg, an Englisch woman, over the age of 90, whose family started the market and who played a prominent part in this story. Mrs. V is a wonderful and caring fighter for the rights of others and a great matchmaker, with a direct line to G-d. This is a touching story of the how far one will go for their family and loved ones. We see the importance of forgiveness and healing relationships, especially one's relationship with G-d. I highly recommend Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend to other readers.

Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend by Rachel J. Good takes us back to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to the Green Valley Farmer’s Market where Caroline Hartzler works at her family’s chicken stand. Noah Riehl is the new auctioneer who comes to Caroline’s aid more than once. I found Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend a delight to read. I smiled and laughed often while reading it. I thought Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend was well-written with engaging characters. I enjoyed getting to know Noah and Caroline. Caroline is such a lively individual. I love her enthusiasm and exuberance for life. Caroline enjoys playing volleyball and loves to win. Her mouth, though, lands her in trouble frequently. It was great to return to the Green Valley Farmer’s Market and catch up with the characters in the earlier books in the series. While Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend is the fifth book in the Surprised by Love series, it can be read as a standalone. My favorite character in this series is Mrs. Vandenburg. She is a sweet woman who has a direct pipeline to the Man upstairs. Mrs. Vandenburg has a habit of being in the right place at the right time. She plays a key role in the story. Mrs. Vandenburg is a clever woman. There is one scene that cracked me up. I thought it was about time this individual got what was coming to him. There is drama mixed in with the lighthearted moments. I enjoyed the witty dialogue. Noah has a secret. Unfortunately, secrets have a way of following you and coming to light. I like that the characters are relatable and realistic. They have flaws and insecurities. Life is messy and we all make mistakes. I enjoyed watching the individuals grow in character and faith. Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend is a story about second chances, family, forgiveness, friendships, love, and grace. It is a story that will leave you with a smile on your face. Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend is an entertaining tale with vigorous volleyball clashes, spilled puzzles, a pretend boyfriend, a benevolent benefactor, repellent rumors, a demanding stand, and a faithful Friend.

I adore an Amish romance, and will devour any I can get my hands on. This book was a wholesome, clean, fun read, showing that love and friendship are more important than heresy and rumours.

This is another book in the Green Valley Farmer’s Market series. We find many of the people in former books, and of course, the wonderful Mrs. Vandenberg. She is known for her matchmaking abilities and ability to foresee the future for people. We find that she has her mind set on the two lead characters getting together in spite of all the problems they will encounter to get there.

Noah Reihl has moved from Chicago for a fresh start. He has hidden secrets from his past that have followed him here. He is working as an auctioneer at the market.

Caroline Hartzler – asks him for a favor, to be her pretend Amish boyfriend to help her distract an unwanted suitor. She finds herself drawn to him and refuses to listen to the gossip about Noah. Noah finds that he, too is drawn to Caroline, but with his unstable faith because of what has happened in his past, he knows he can not pursue a relationship with Caroline since he is not part of the church.

This is a sweet love story that you will not want to put down until you have discovered what the hidden secrets are in his life, and how the past affects a possible relationship with Caroline.
I enjoyed this book so much and highly recommend it.

Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend by wonderfully talented author Rachel J. Good is a Christian Amish romance set in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It is book five in the author’s Surprised by Love series. If you haven’t read the previous books, you will have no issues reading this as a stand-alone. The author makes certain of that.

This is an engaging tale about young Amish woman, Caroline Hartzler. Her family maintains a barbeque chicken stand in the Green Valley Farmers Market. It is also about Noah Riehl. He is an auctioneer at the same market and has helped Caroline multiple times. There is an elderly English character, Mrs. Vanderburg, that is a real character! She livens things up.

It took just a page or two for me to become invested in this lovely Amish tale. The author has a pleasant style of writing. Her characters are beautifully crafted and seemed like my old friends by the time I finished the book. The story was plausible. The author added twists, humor, emotion, inspiration, and life lessons to make this a page-turning delight. Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend is a book filled with faith, love, hope, second chances, grace, family, forgiveness, and friendships.

I highly recommend this excellent book. Lovers of Amish fiction will devour it. I did. It gets a five out of five star rating from this reader. A copy was provided by NetGalley, but these are my honest thoughts.

In Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend, Caroline is an impulsive, energetic young lady who pretty much always speaks and acts before she thinks. Noah recently moved to their Amish community trying to escape God and a past that he definitely wants to stay in the past. With the help of Mrs. Vandenberg, Caroline is determined to help Noah right the wrongs that he has suffered, whether he wants the help or not.

This story definitely lives up to the high standards of the previous books in the Surprised by Love series. I loved getting to check in on the other Green Valley Farmer's Market people that we've met in previous books. This story was very entertaining and thoroughly engaging. There were several times that I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened next. The characters were well-developed and lovable, and Caroline's impulsive nature led to many hilarious moments.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story which is book five in the Surprised by Love series. The book is great as a stand-alone story, but I would definitely recommend readers go back and read the other stories in the series as well.

This book was provided to me courtesy of Kensington through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend is the 5 th wonderful addition to the Rachel J. Good's Surprised by Love series. Thank you, Kensington Books, Zebra for allowing me to read an ARC of this book through NetGalley. Views expressed are my own, and I was not required to give a positive review.

I have read all 5 books in this series and have enjoyed each one. Although this book could be read as a standalone, you will really enjoy revisiting characters introduced earlier in the series.

Mrs. Vandenberg returns. She owns the local market place and loves using God’s insight to help her match couples and do God’s bidding.

This is the story of Caroline Hartzler, who is a spirited young woman, and Noah Riehl, a young auctioneer with a questionable past.

Ms. Good has such a unique way of unfolding a story, that you really can’t put it down. She keeps the whole thing interesting by always having something new happening just on the next page. Not only is the storyline well done, but each character is well developed and you can’t help liking or disliking each one.

As this 5-star story unfolds, you see the growth of Caroline and Noah as they learn forgiveness and how to trust God in their lives.

I highly recommend pre-ordering this book. Release day is 27 Jun 2023.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Kensington Books and Rachel J Good for the E ARC of this book. This is book 5 in the Surprised by Love series.
We meet Caroline who everyone has opinions about. She is a bit clumsy and one day taking a short cut to work at the farmers market bumps into Noah, the new auctioneer. For Caroline it is love at first sight. Noah has no intentions of getting involved with anyone, he has a secret that he means for no one to find out.
Caroline has a problem with an Amish boy and sees the only way out is to pretend she has a boyfriend, Noah. This leads to complications for both of them and the lady who owns the farmers market gets involved as she sees the promise in both of them and what they could be together. Not everyone is pleased with Caroline and Noah and do their best to make trouble for them.
There were a couple of characters that I didn’t like and was quite surprised that the author wrote such characters, especially one who was Amish, but I understand why she did so.
I really enjoyed this book as I have done with all the others. The characters were well written, the plot was good and engaging. I look forward to the next book.

Book 5 in author Rachel Good’s Surprised by Love, this can be read as a stand alone. But I enjoyed the other four books and highly recommend them.

Oh my goodness. I wanted to shake Caroline! She started off so self focused and didn’t stop talking. About herself! As time went on I really did come to like her. Especially when she starts working on changing her faults. And Noah. What a hero. Or was he? I felt like he was a people pleaser and couldn’t stand up for himself. But he was so sweet!! And then there’s Mrs. VandenBerg who we see in the other books. Such a kind lady with a direct link to God, or so it seems.

A pretend boyfriend isn’t a new troupe, of course, but I enjoyed this immensely. We saw Amish people with faults and flaws, Some were down right mean but we got to see the why behind it.

If you enjoy Amish fiction then do read this one. You’re sure to like to it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

This is book 5 in this series, an we are reunited with old friends, and some not so welcoming!

This is Caroline's story, and yes, we have met her previously, but this is also Noah Rielhl's story, he is now an auctioneer. Fate puts these two together and we are there to see how people react to this. To get out of a sticky situation, Caroline insinuates that Noah is her boyfriend, um, and thus the title of this read comes into play.

When some serious facts become know, everyone is soon shaking their heads and changing their mind as to their opinion of a young man. Enter our dear Mrs Vandenberg, and her inspirational wisdom, and we are gifted another page turning read!

Will justice be served?

Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend (Surprised by Love #5)
by Rachel J. Good

Caroline works in her brother's chicken barbecue stand at the Green Valley Farmer's Market. She was late because of a volleyball game so she took a shortcut thru the back of the tent and ran into the new Auctioneer!
Rumors abound at the Farmer's Market among the vendors about the new Auctioneer. Mrs. Vandenberg is back at the Market with her words of wisdom and well voiced thoughts about the future.
There is love in the air. But, there are roadblocks. A ruined reputation, a deep feeling of rejection, and why doesn't God care about me?
How can everything turn out okay?

Don't skip to the end! You won't want to miss a word.

All newcomer Noah Riehl wants is to be invisible and start fresh from past secrets. However, Caroline Hartzler, makes this very hard when she asks for his help. Often deemed impulsive, Caroline falls in love with Noah at first sight. His quiet and gentle ways pull her heart after a really painful break-up. When Noah's past threatens to force him to leave, Caroline realizes she must fight for what she loves. When match maker, Mrs. Vandenburg returns, Noah and Caroline don't stand a chance. Will all work out in the end? I have really enjoyed my visits to the Green Valley Farmer's Market. The characters there are inviting and endearing. It really makes one want to go buy some BBQ and attend the auction. I look forward to the next in the series. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.

I found this book so cute. I felt like with Caroline nothing held her back she spoke what was on her mind and believed the best in everyone. She was a fun spirit who just was really fun to read about. Noah was standoffish but for good reason but who really loved and cared deeply for those in his life. He was so broken with things he faced but that did not stop him from living, but also fighting himself to do what was right for himself. I have read another book in this series and I LOVE Ms. V she is an angel for sure she looks beyond the broken and builds people up and shows them the good that's already in there heart. This book for me was a quick read and very enjoyable the author kept this book clean so its suitable for all ages, and well worth the read.

Welcome back to the Green Valley Farmer’s Market, in Lancaster. I LOVE this series. Rachel J. Good has a way of writing perfectly flawed characters. You can’t help but root for Caroline and Noah the entire time.
This is the fifth book in the series. It can be read as a stand alone book, but I highly recommend reading all of the books. Not only will you have all of the character backgrounds, but you will enjoy all of the stories.
I hoping for a book about AnnaMary next and I DEFINITELY want an origin story for Mrs. Vandenberg. Why is she so invested in the Amish? Many thanks to the author, Zebra and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I wish I had realized that this was part of a series before I read it. It can be read as a standalone but I felt like it would have been useful to have read the previous novels first as I felt a little adrift at parts, like there was key information about the setting and characters I was missing.

I generally enjoy books about the Amish and whilst this wasn't a bad novel by any means it just didn't do all that much for me and I struggled to stay invested in the story and characters. Caroline and Noah were alright as main characters but the romance felt stilted and I wanted more spark between them.

This was an alright read but it didn't wow me. It is a sweet read and is well-written.

Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. Noah is hiding a secret. All he wants to do is do his job as an auctioneer and fly under the radar. Caroline is an outgoing girl and attracts an unwanted suitor. She wants to discourage him, so she asks Noah to help her even though there are rumors about him. I enjoyed this book very much. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books/Zebra for the
E-ARC. This is my own opinion.

Caroline is a very energetic Amish girl. Her Maam and her best friend tried telling her to slow down. She loved sports but she wanted to win. So she would do anything that she could to win.. Even doing a "pancake" in Volleyball with a dress on.

This is a cute story about a determined young Amish girl who wants the best for everyone. She sometimes thinks after she acts much to her parents dismay.

Love the cast of characters and could not put the book down.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me an advance copy of this book in return for my honest opinions.

Amish romance fiction is one of my favorite gonre and although I have not read any previous books by Rachel J. Good, I requested based on the book cover and synopsis.

Am happy I was granted a copy to read and review. The book was really good.

I enjoyed getting not know the characters band becoming a part of their world.

Would definitely buy and recommend.

Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend by Rachel J. Good

Her Pretend Amish Boyfriend is book#5 in Rachel J. Good’s Surprised by Love series. This was my first book in this series, and I loved it. I will definitely have to go and get caught up on all things Valley Greens Farmers Market.
Give this one a shot, you won’t be disappointed!!

Great ending to the series

I've been waiting for Caroline to find her true love. Noah and Caroline both resisted the feelings that they had for each other. Neither think they will ever find a person to love them. Even though she is in her 90's, Mrs. Vandenberg continues to be the best matchmaker around!
