A savage ritual threatens to set off a tide of violence throughout the Heracles Gulf.
Fresh off Tyunta and stripped of both Ardennes and his active status, Vandal must return to his home world and finish his jockey training before Colonel Swift secures a new contract. But when a new threat brews at the edge of the Heracles Gulf, Vandal faces being left behind if he can’t finish in time.

Deadly, secretive descendants of ancient Northmen raid isolated worlds. These savages, shot into space on the back of stolen technology, are committed to blooding their next generation of warriors. And the Chevaliers might be next in their cross hairs.

I didn't expect this one to be as dynamic as the first one, and I was WRONG! The second book in this series is just as action-packed as the first book, with plenty of mech-on-mech action and an eclectic cast of characters who Warren does a great job of fleshing out. The writing is tight, flows smoothly, and kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning. My only complaint is that the book ended! I finished it wanting more, and will be picking up the next book in this installment ASAP. Do yourself a favor, and immerse yourself in Scott Warren's world; you won't regret it!

A great followup

This one hits harder, starting off as merely a training excursion for Vandal, it turns into a nightmare battle. Brutal, violent and also having some inner conflicts of faith.

I would love to know the lore and history of this universe, seems like humanity got to the stars really early here.

This series isn't exceptional but it is very filling. I like it a lot. It covers the adventures of a mercenary unit in a universe with giant walking tanks and I really like that genre. It has, in it's bones, the feel of a military story but with the kind of adventuring party build and soap opera in space dynamic that allows for fun and crazy stuff to happen.

I read the first book and immediately dived into the second. The main character grabbed me from the start and the supporting cast of characters added the stories development. Highly recommended if you are into this style of books.

Better than the first book

In book 2 we got to see some good character development. This story and setting were somewhat more dark and gritty than book one. Warren is growing as an author. I'm excited to read book 3

More mech on mech violence. The life of a mercenary isn't glamorous, and here we see what happens when everything goes wrong.

Great action

Great action all through the book. Brings up hard questions about what would you do. An exciting book to read.
