Reviews:

"Yttrup has penned a many faceted novel that challenges the reader to pursue spiritual growth as fully as any self-help book would, making her fiction as inspirational as it is entertaining."

-- Publishers Weekly

"This is an entreating character-driven inspirational Christian drama. The cast is solid as each has doubts made worse by the serpent queen of mean who plays off others fears. Jenna is a fascinating protagonist who seems like a mouse but readers will learn she roars in her subtle way. Fans will enjoy this contemporary as those who embrace grace can survive anything the allegorical she-devil tosses at them."

--Harriet Klausner, MidWest Book Review

"If you’re looking for a good solid read that will cleanse your pent up emotions, this is it. If you need to do some of your own introspection, Yttrup’s characters can help you really look at yourself. And if you’re just looking for excellent drama with a powerful message, Yttrup’s Lost and Found should not be missed."

-- Radiant Lit

"Simply put...this book is a masterpiece. There are so many layers to the story and characters that as you go deeper and deeper, it is impossible to not be affected in some way. For someone who may be going through their own spiritual journey, this book is chock-full of wisdom and insight into the plans that God has for his children."

-- Southern Sassy Things

"Yttrup's strengths are many. Her writing is solid and full of senses. The book is a page turner, full of tension and unfurling plotlines that demand that the reader keep going, just one more chapter . . . I will read Yttrup again."

I'll be honest. I picked up this book because I'd reads comments from other people on Twitter saying how much they loved it. I wasn't that interested in the plot from what I'd read on the cover, but I decided to keep an open mind.

It was slow to get going. Sure, the novel opens with a fundraiser, and you instantly get an idea of two of the main characters. My problem was that I didn't really feel a connection to them. Actually, I didn't feel a connection to any character. When a major event occurred, I just read it and turned the page. I think I may have even only scanned a couple of chapters.

I did, however, strongly dislike Andee. As much as Brigitte was a manipulative B, I could almost see where she was coming from. Even if I didn't understand why she wanted to keep such a tight hold on Jenna, except maybe to mold her into a younger version of herself. But Andee never took a break from making money or being tight-fisted about it. When she refused to tip someone the base rate and said it was because he didn't meet her standard, I almost hurled. I use the base as a base and go upward. Even when everything began to go wrong for Andee, I still didn't care much for her actions. She was using so many things as a crutch, for practical reasons rather than emotional ones.

Lost and Found is well written, although I don't get why Brigitte was written in 3rd person while everyone else was in 1st. Yttrup handles well the difficult subjects of emotional and psychological abuse. I understood the concept of the two women having to lose all that they thought was important in order to find themselves.

At the end of the day, this wasn't a book for me. Each reader, however, is different and I don't want to deter anyone else from reading it. For this reason, I've decided not to give it any stars. Why? Because personally, I'd give it 2 stars. The Goodreads criteria for stars means 2 says "It's okay." That's the truth for me, but it would probably drag down the book's overall rating. I don't mind doing that for some books but not here.

Lost and Found is what all good novels strive to be.

It raises a mirror before its readers and allows us to see ourselves in a different light, with scars and dependencies revealed. It asks the question "Who do you worship and obey?"

I began reading Lost and Found innocently enough. Excited to read the second book by Ginny Yttrup after reading her powerful first novel Words last year. Then, something happened in Lost and Found that rarely happens to me--some of my personal struggles came to life on the pages. But not only the struggles, the gently unfolding solutions were also there, brilliantly woven into the story in a constant awareness of God's immense love and tender care of His children.

The author does a fantastic job of bringing the reader on an emotional and spiritual journey that allows God access to areas of the heart and motives. Jenna and Andee's journey allowed me to take one of my own. A journey that brought healing where I didn't know I needed it.

My Review:

Jenna is terrible at losing things she doesn’t mean too but somehow always manages to misplace everything. Brigitte, her evil, controlling and abusive mother-in-law, doesn’t believe Jenna “accidentally” loses these things. Jenna feels the missing items are an: “…outward manifestation of something inward”. Luckily for her, her husband, Gerard, hasn’t noticed any of the lost items, nor she feels has he noticed the most important thing she has lost…”herself”.

Jenna and Brigitte’s relationship is anything but close. Jenna often cries out to God, begging for answers to how to please Brigitte and how to honour God in her relationship with Brigitte. Her answer: “Stand back, Jenna”! But Jenna doesn’t understand what it means to “stand back from Brigitte or from her life”. But she does know there is a “change on the horizon, but change involves Jenna’s willingness to obey. Jenna knows she must first stop drinking and doesn’t understand why she would turn to a “substance” instead of to “Him”.

This was an exceptional story that had me so pulled in from beginning to end that I tuned everything else out in my life! I didn’t hear the t.v., the telephone, or people talking to me. Jenna’s story will take you on a whirlwind of intrigue, sympathy, excitement, and some very thought provoking moments. The characters were so well developed that I kept forgetting they were fictional people. Just like in real life you have the people you like and those you dislike and I certainly had a dislike toward the very evil and corrupt Brigitte, Jenna’s mother-in-law! I also had a dislike for Andee in the beginning but as the story progressed, I began to understand who she finally became or was striving to become, thanks to Jenna. There is so much I want to say in this review but it wouldn’t turn out to be a review without spoilers so I’m going to stop here and just hope that everyone reads “LOST AND FOUND”. Thank you Ms. Yttrup for 402 pages of phenomenal reading!

Jenna, married to Gerard, famed vitner, both live under the controlling and suffocating rule of Gerard's mother Brigette. Jenna is always looking for ways to please Brigette, she seeks courage and comfort from God, yet she always feels inadequate, a victim of the lure of beauty gone wrong.

Andee, a successful businesswoman, whose drive to surpass her expectations of herself, encompasses her, grips and motivates her. She puts up walls around herself to hold her past life in and to keep others out. Her boyfriend Jason (Jenna's brother) supportive of her sees her as his other half.

Brigette, widow, has the upper hand in every business and personal tranaction concerning her winery and her family. A very strong and self assured person, she is in need of no help from anyone especially not God.

When tragedy strikes the family is forced to come together. Can they mend the hurt that separates them or will the pain of the past and the uncertainty of the present sever the bond they share?

This is a novel of life, of learning to live and learning to trust. A novel of heartbreak, betrayal, acceptance and God's perfect love.

Raw emotions gripped me holding my attention with every word. A well crafted novel that once I started reading found it impossible to put down. Character development surpassed my expectations as I felt I knew them. Dialogue and scenery worked very well together. This is one story I won't forget at least anytime soon. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future! I found the overall message inspiring and I was challenged in my faith. I would recommend this novel to others. Thanks to B&H Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC for my review.

Simply put...this book is a masterpiece. There are so many layers to the story and characters that as you go deeper and deeper, it is impossible to not be affected in some way. For someone who may be going through their own spiritual journey, this book is chock-full of wisdom and insight into the plans that God has for his children.

What was most enlightening for me was the fact that on this side of heaven, I will never truly "understand" everything about God and his plans. That became clear as I looked at Proverbs 3:5-6 in a whole new way. So often I try so hard to know everything, including the things of God. I want to figure it all out, wrap it up in a package, and say, "Now, I've figured it out." But truly, who am I kidding? No one but myself. That's why those verses now have knew meaning to me. I'll never think of them the same way again.

This book is not for everyone. Granted, lots of folks should read it, but I guess what I mean to say is that if you're not spiritually prepared for the truths contained within, you may just cast it aside. In all honesty, I almost did that very thing. I had to get almost halfway through it before I really allowed myself to soak in its wisdom. So...bravo, Ms. Yttrup. You've given me a memorable experience with a novel that I won't soon forget.

I am finding that Ginny Yttrup is quickly becoming one of my favorite Christian authors. Her style of writing is lyrical and sucks you right in and the things she writes about are ones that most people struggle with.
Jenna Bouvier appeared to have it all, beauty, wealth, a loving husband. But when her beauty and then her husband are taken from her and she is left with a very controlling mother-in-law who is accusing Jenna of having an affair. Will Jenna learn to trust in God even when it feels like He has taken everything away from you and you have nowhere to turn?
Andee Bell seems to have her life together, she has worked her way to becoming a very rich business women, when she falls in love with Jenna's brother she is afraid that some decisions she made will jeopardize their relationship, will she be able to find love and peace?

As I said before Ginny Yttrup is a fairly new author with 3 books under her belt, two of which I have read and thoroughly enjoyed. They are not happy-ever-after type books, but deal with real issues and really make you think about your relationship with the Lord and what you would do in the characters situations.

Lost and Found is written by Ginny Yttrup and published by B&H Publishing Group.

Jenna Bouvier’s life is not all it seems. She has married into a rich family but money does not buy her peace and contentment. The story follows Jenna as she grows and becomes a woman rather then just someone only living for others approval. The other main character is a woman named Andee. She is looking for satisfaction in her life and work. It is the connection between these two main characters that keeps the story interesting.

The characters in the book are captivating. You will want to read more just to see how the characters react to each unique situation they encounter. The story itself is very in depth and moves at a quick pace. I enjoyed the story and even though there were parts that I found boring it still kept my attention till the end.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

Loved this book. Sometimes Spiritual journey books can be hokey and the endings sometimes seem idealistic. Most Christians understand that ideal endings don't always happen but the lessons learned are the reason for the journey. This book crafted a journey that I loved traveling on with the main character.

While I enjoyed the characters in this book very much, it took a bit of patience in the beginning while getting them all introduced. Their diversity in their personal walks with God and finding Him amidst the chaos of the world intrigued me. The main character's relationship struggles provided me a perfect fiction follow-up to my last non-fiction read, Tired of Trying to Measure Up.

Well written, a book that I continue to ponder long after I finished. What is a romance with God truly like? Do I enjoy that kind of intimacy with my Saviour? What circumstances stand in my way? Will be recommending as a book club selection, but may be a difficult book for some to read who are/have experienced emotional or sexual abuse.

Do you think works of fiction can be both entertaining and life-changing?

Read any of Ginny Yttrup’s books and you’ll answer with a resounding yes! I never have to search for life applications… they leap off the pages. In the novel Lost and Found, one take away (I have many) was security in Christ alone.

I resonated with the characters Jenna Bouvier and Andee Bell and understood their fears. I’ve been fearful of losing security, and an unknown future often produces confusion and anxiety in me.

For Andee, security isn’t determined by fate, it’s determined by drive. Will her drive be her demise?

Jenna is seeking illumination from God, to lose her life and find her security in Christ, but will His light within her dim completely as she fights against her circumstances and wonders “how to please those impossible to please?”

You’ll want to read Lost and Found to discover the answers to these questions and the questions sure to stir in your own heart and life.

I really enjoyed this story, although it was hard to read due to the mental abuse that Jenna dealt with. The way she eventually worked through it was inspiring.

My only issue with this book is the summary posted here and on the book itself. It gives away information that doesn't happen until the VERY END of the story. It ruined the story a bit for me, because I kept expecting it to happen, but it didn't. I don't know who writes the summaries to entice readers to choose the book, but this one was poorly done. However, don't let that turn you off of the book itself; it's a very good story.

This is a hard review to write. The writing in this book is excellent. But I struggled for the longest time reading this book. Just didn't connect to the story and the characters. Was tempted to put it aside. I put it aside for a week. My friend and I were reading this book together this month to discuss it when we have finished. I told her I was stuggling with it. She encouraged me to stick with it. I'm glad I did. It's a good book. Not one I will re-read I don't think, but one I am glad I read in the end and glad I finished it.

Phenomenal!!

Lost and Found is phenomenal!! Ginny Yttrup does it again. This is a unique story. She has a knack for building believable characters with depth. Emotional, thought-provoking; this is a book that will stick with me, as will the characters. It really makes one think about who we are meant to be in Christ. Not in this world, but in Christ. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, and I’m stingy with those!

Life Changing

This is my second time reading this book and I enjoyed it even more than the first. There is so much to learn from this fiction book! There are so many phases, “nuggets “ of wisdom that I am going to write down so I can reread them. Let them enter my Spirit and grow, become permanent. I wish Ginny had a hundred books written. I would be content reading her books forever.

This book has touched me ,
I recognize myself in ‘Jenna’
The phrases at every chapter ,gives a handle to think about.
The book reminds me again the importance of pouring your heart out to God and ask Him for his guidance in my daily life.
The book shows how God works in very different kind of people .
It had encouraged me to know that i may be myself .

Thank you for writing your book

Compelling

This is one of the most compelling books I have read! What does it truly mean to lose your life for Christ? Follow Jenna as she finds out through the struggles of a domineering, abusive mother in law, losing her husband! Learn how she learned to pick up her cross and truly live! I would date this as a ten if possible!

Riveting novel pointing me to Jesus

I’m riveted by novels with authentic characters and dialogue. Ginny’s writing style drew me into each character and scene, almost made for me! But the greatest gift of this book was a new and fresh understanding of what intimacy with Christ can be like as a dance, with other believers. These characters invited me to their dance. Thank you!

This one just missed a 5 for me. A woman's journey from finding herself after being under control of someone in her life. Can she let go of a comfortable life she has been accustomed to? Will she pick up her cross and follow God? I enjoyed the characters spiritual journey. Good ending yet left a few threads dangling which is why it missed a 5 rating.

I didn't enjoy this book by Ginny Yttrup as much as the others I have read. I had a hard time understanding the main character's submissiveness to her mother-in-law's abuse. I was happy to see her courage emerge, at last, and the book has a satisfying conclusion.
