Most poets are not household names or even moderately known. The ones that are tend to be wretchedly awful, ie Amanda Gorman and her ilk. I don't scour digests or quarterlies so it could be thirty years before good poetry finds its way to me at the bottom of a sack.
Second reading: I’ve read this a few poems at a time over the last few days. It’s a very rich collection. Some poems quickly sketch a whole life. Perhaps the most stunning of these is The Road From Elmira, rendering a man’s life and Civil War experience in 80 short lines that hold the reader from beginning to end. I loved every poem in this collection.
Really loved this book of carefully crafted poems. I read the paperback edition but for some reason goodreads doesn't have a nice image to go with the paperback edition so I'm showing the hardback edition here. This book is highly recommended to poetry fans.
