This book is an insomniac's best friend...
and a bibliophile's dream.

When you're not reading it, you'll be thinking about it. You may possibly hear of similar events reported on the news; find yourself becoming more aware of tragedies happening around the world. You may even find yourself playing connect-the-dots to a larger picture.
(My connect-the-dots moment came with the elusive "Black Pages" which were a highly sought after medieval artifact...
Personally, I wondered if the "Black Pages" weren't from the real life "Codex Gigas" also known as "The Devil's Bible"). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Gigas
Things like this are just part of the fun with this book.

Kicks off in high gear, slows down to medium at a few points, but races faster than the speed of sound at others! With hair-raising turns, twists in the plot, mystery, suspense, need I say more?
Two things this book is not - it's never dull or boring.

Perfect pacing, easy to follow, and fleshed-out, believable characters.
Don't let the size scare you! You won't believe how many pages you've read (or how much time has gone by) when you manage to stop and glance at a clock. When I finished, I wanted more. Much more.

If you love your suspense filled with action, mystery, conspiracy, horror, sudden betrayals, a twist of history, and end of the world scenarios, then this is the book you've sought!
The holy grail of apocalyptic literature!

Do yourself a favor, and pick up a copy of this one. I warn you however, once you start this book, you will not be able to stop.
I recommend reading this one on your days off, unless you can work with little to no sleep!

Mr. Finney, I'm definitely looking forward to reading more by you! Please write more novels!
You also Mr. Snell!

I am a fan of thrillers and mysteries, and I really liked this book. There's a large cast of characters, but for a novel this size the authors handle them well. Also, the story "travels." Because the characters rarely sit still, the reader is flung across the globe at each turn of the plot.

Angel of Light centers (in part) on events that are occurring around the world that look random but upon closer examination seem to be linked somehow. Once the main characters begin to get established we sense a connection between them but can't identify what it is...yet.

And that's the fun: going along as an enormous mystery is unveiled through each of the character's eyes, until we connect the dots and uncover the big (very big) picture. The story doesn't "wait" for exciting things to happen (black market artifact deals, epic chases and wrecks, angel and demon possessions, etc.), it jumps right in.

Check it out.

Wow. At 900- some pages, it's a big book. Thankfully, it only took me five months to get around to it, but oh boy, was it worth it! Have to run off to work but will review it in a couple of hours on break.

I received this advance reader copy from the authors for a fair and impartial review.

This is the "sequel" to 2009's 'Demon Days', but can be read as a stand-alone without knowledge of it's predecessor.

'Demon Days: Angel of Light' is a bit hard to describe. It is a "quest" drama in the vein of 'National Treasure', a supernatural thriller like 'the Omen', and it is an apocalyptic piece based in Judeo-Christian/Islamic tradition like 'Left Behind'. I use these other works as a comparative example but 'Demon Days: AOL' truly stands by itself in a unique place.

The basic premise is that Satan is on Earth possessing an important political figure. Satan and his demons have used Near Death Experiences (NDE's) to possess humans in order to bring about the apocalypse, Armageddon. A priest, an archaeologist, and several other characters become involved and choose their sides in the coming confrontation between good and evil.

The story has several things that stand out and make it special:

1. There is never a lull without a new revelation, an action sequence, or some similar event that keeps readers interested. This is especially impressive because the book weighs in at over 900 pages.

2. POV shifts between characters...good guys, bad guys, free agents. Chapters alternate between character POV's and it makes for an interesting and flavorful read. Seeing the motivations and thoughts of every character helps deepen some of the mysteries and weaves several layers of intrigue into an already complex and engrossing novel.

3. The treatment of world religions was masterful and respectful. The story centers on events in the Middle East and traditions from Judeaism, Christianity and Islam. Throughout the story, there was never a hint of disrespect or derision toward any of the depicted religions.

4. The book is packed with multiple parallel plot lines that later intersect and finally converge. Many books do this, but few do it to the extent that these authors pulled off for 'Demon Days:AOL'. This level of complexity is something I really look for in a good book.

I would like to point out a couple things that did not work so well for me:

1. Midway throught the book, there is a section that includes lots of flashbacks, backtracks and retraces to cover a scene from every involved character's POV. This is placed at a pivotal "cliffhanger" story point. Although the information and events built a poweful launch platform for the second half of the book, I felt disconcerted, confused and anxious for nearly 50-75 pages.

2. Some plot threads and characters disappear without resolution. I understand that the authors would like to continue this franchise with more books, but after 900 pages (or 1100 when the first Demon Days novel is factored in) I want basically everything tied up.

Overall this book was a great ride! I had fun and felt like I couldn't get enough. I have suggested to the authors that this would make a great TV series in the tradition of 'The Walking Dead', 'V', and 'Hell on Wheels'. I was assured that they would love for that to happen. The story has so many pieces that there could be multiple seasons just from the material already available. (I hope they make it happen.)

So, if you liked 'The Stand', 'Left Behind', 'The Omen', 'Repairman Jack', or even 'Indiana Jones'...then you will find something to like about 'Demon Days: Angel of Light'.

I read “Demon Days” and really enjoyed that book. But this book is on a totally different level!
The best compliment I can give this excellent novel is that I found myself looking forward to reading the book whenever I was forced to stop (despite how good it is, the book is long. On amazon it says the print version is over 800 pages). So rarely do I feel this way about a novel.
Yes, technically, this book is a thriller. And the authors are obviously smart and talented in their ability to leave each chapter at a point where you are compelled to know what happens next. But I was also struck by how the novel ends up embracing so many different genres. At times it felt like a spy story and at other times a domestic drama. Of course there are horror elements as well. But each genre type seemed to blend beautifully together.
I will give you an example, one which does contain a ***SPOILER*** of a sorts. I couldn’t believe it when I got there, but there are “zombies” in this novel! It was handled in a very completely straight and serious manner (and in fact some readers might not even consider them “zombies,” but I could definitely support my case that they are in fact “zombies”) while even within the same part of the book, the authors are asking the readers to contemplate the philosophical relationship between good and evil; Father and son.
Even the narrative is treated with variations of style. One chapter felt completely different as it was written like a montage summarizing a young man’s tragic life in much the same way Ambrose Bierce dealt with the technique in his famous short story, “An Incident at Owl Creek Bridge.” And when this montage chapter reached its conclusion it dovetailed perfectly into the preceding plot of the story, feeling like just another piece of a larger puzzle where everything ends up purposely interlocked together. Obviously something the authors were trying to do to make a bigger point.
For me, it all worked. In fact I was so enthralled by the writing that the more I read, the more I became shocked that this ambitious book was written by two relative unknowns. As I stated in my review of “Demon Days” I met one author through a friend but don’t know anything about him. I have looked him up and found out he has a background making movies, but his writing consists of just a comic book and the aforementioned “Demon Days” to his credit. And the other author seems like he pretty much writes horror, but it appears the stuff he’s written before is more horror with a capital “H.” This book is nothing like any of that. So in some ways, it doesn’t add up. What am I saying? I’m saying, if I didn’t know these guys existed (having met one of them), I could imagine a more experienced, well known author, perhaps someone who doesn’t write in the thriller/horror genre, using these two names as an alias. I hope Finney and Snell take my conspiratorial musing as a compliment because whatever the case may be, their combined effort is impressive. I bet that if they keep writing like this, they won’t be the target of a conspiracy plot by a reviewer for long.

A series of seemingly random events strikes the world – a tragic train crash that leads to the death of over 100 people; a severe earthquake destroys Aleppo in Syria; people are being murdered in strange ways; there is a rise in people experiencing NDEs after bizarre accidents. And, in the middle of it all, sits Envoy John Wolfenson. What can it all mean? Additionally, Jenna Grant – an archeologist and radio personality – is contacted by her brother to authenticate an ancient manuscript, which has been missing for hundreds of years. This mysterious manuscript is known as The Black Pages; when Jenna sees it, she discovers a missing prophecy and ritual – and becomes embroiled in a journey that will take her all around the world. Will she be able to discover the answers in time?

This book is a hefty tome and its sheer size might scare some potential readers off – don’t let it! The story is fast-moving and enthralling. You will find yourself completely entranced as you are reading it and not even notice how many pages you have gone through – when it is all over, you’ll wish there were just a little bit more to read. Fortunately, it appears that there might be at least one other book in the works in this series! I know I’ll be anxiously awaiting it. The characters in this novel are beautifully developed and distinct, and we learn quite a lot about many of them throughout the story. It is beautifully crafted with an extremely intricate plot that all slots together perfectly. There are twists and turns and sudden betrayals – you just couldn’t ask for a better book. Definitely check it out! It is available 12/1/11.

WOW! When I first got this book my thought was, "OMG. I'll never finish this book, it's HUGE, do I even start it?" the book is 920 pages. I'm glad that I took the time to sit down & read it. The book does start off a little slow, there are (almost) too many characters to keep up with. This book will fascinate people that love near death experiences, mystery, horror, suspense, wild rides, history buffs adventure throw in a little romance & you have the book! I know this was a book in fiction but I did enjoy the history aspect of the book, along with the adventure. I could see "Indiana Jones" in this novel! Don't want to spoil the book for anyone so you just gotta read it! It will keep you up nights!

Review: Never have I read a book so full of intriguing plot changes that can keep you guessing ‘til the very end. Finney and Snell have the kind of collaborating ability that writing teams everywhere only wish they could have. This dual novel scared me! The simple fact that this story could hold even an inkling of truth is profound. A conspiracy theory of the greatest volume this is one series you do not want to miss out on.
You must get a copy you will enjoy this series immensely and beg for more. This is one well worth staying up to read!

Whew! When I got this book, I was amazed at how long it was, but it really did not take me as long to read as I thought it owuld. I would sit down to just read a page or two and before I knew it, I was 75 pages further along. The characters are well written and the story line was action packed enough to keep my attention, both serious bonus in my book reading!! There were no horrible grammar errors either, which raised it another notch up!!

My only complaint was the number of small side plots which were left unfinished. However, I guess that might have taken another 900 pages!

I reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys reading!!!

It's taken me forever to read this novel. The action is fast paced and consistent. You can definitely tell that the author has a background with movies. It reminded me of a Dan Brown kind of plot but with more intricacies.

With intrigue, mystery, secret orders and plenty of demonic possessions, this is one very entertaining book that is sure to please readers of many genres.
The plot is woven with care, with many layers and characters which might at first seem to have little to do with one another, but which will later be revealed as interconnected. The action scenes are well-paced, demonstrating the author’s sense for timing, although, as with many books of this length, there are a few instances when less could have been more. Some scenes were a bit too long for my taste, but that is a fault which doesn’t get in the way very often throughout the narrative.
Since this book is plot-driven more than character-driven, you can’t expect characters that jump off the page. Jenna, Father Olsen, George, they were all fun to follow, but not entirely “new” characterizations. The Angel of Light, or AOL (which I found hilarious), as Satan is called, tends to steal the show. He is witty and charming, even when plotting evil, evil things, so he definitely turned out to be my favorite. The book is worth reading just for the moments when he is center-stage.
This is a book that is easy to recommend to most readers. If you like demons (not “like” like, but enjoy), then this one is for you.

I received this paperback Book titled "Demon Days: Angel Of Light" by Richard Finney and D.L. Snell. I Won this book from Goodreads. I was excited to receive this book and started reading right away. This book is a Mystery, Conspiracy Thriller, end-of-the-World Horror Novel. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but, it involves near-death experiences and the Devil. Yes, the Devil but don't let that discourage you from reading this book, I know Religion and the Devil can be touchy subjects for some people.
This book is very different with compelling characters and filled with Mystery, Suspense and the Supernatural.

This book takes a long time to build up so it feels pretty slow and scattered at the beginning, and then sadly doesn't seem to pick up the pace much more throughout. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, and it can be hard to tell the substantial characters from the background characters. The overall plot has the potential to be great once the text is gleaned down a bit with only the interesting parts remaining.
