Dracula

Dracula is a novel by Bram Stoker, published in 1897. As an epistolary novel, the story is told through letters, diaries, and newspaper articles. It doesn't have a single protagonist, but begins with lawyer Jonathan Harker on a business trip to the castle of Count Dracula, a Transylvanian nobleman. Huck escapes the castle after discovering that Dracula is a vampire, and the Earl moves to England and haunts the seaside town of Whitby. A small group led by Abraham Van Helsing hunted down Dracula and eventually killed him. Dracula mainly wrote in the 1890s. Stoker wrote more than a hundred pages of notes for the novel, drawing extensively on Transylvanian folklore and history. Some scholars believe that Dracula's character was inspired by historical figures such as Prince Vlad the Impaler of Wallachia or Countess Elisabeth Bathory, but there is widespread disagreement.
