Excerpt: ... todo lo susodicho por parte de Ins dichos moriscos de granada se han presentado muchas peticiones conque suplican a su uiagestad les haga la merced que tienen pedida pues se concedio a los moriscos de vallado]id y de otras partes y dizen que en ellos ay mayor razon, y al presente estan en esta corte ciertos moriscos de granada procurandolo y solicitandolo para que su magestad les haga la merced que tantas veces han supplicado y pedido y agora suplican y piden y por la ultima peticion dan a entender que se contentaran con que se les haga la merced que se hizo a los moriscos de aragon y de valladolid la qual presentaron a 12 de marco 1560, tambien presentaron otra peticion a 20 de febrero 1560 en que pidieron no se vendiesen los bienes que fuesen confiscados en el auto que ya estava publicado ni los que estavan por vender de los otros autos de antes por la paga de la farda y por la situacion de lo que se ha de dar para la paga del salario de los inquisidores y officiates que se ha de cargar tambien sobre aquellos bienes. En 29 de Octubre de loul dieron otra peticion por la qual dizen que piden lo que por otras antes desta tienen pedido y suplicado atiento lo mucho que han gastado en prosecucion deste negocio, asi en dar los poderes como eu las ydas y venidas que han hecho en flandes y en esta corte. The history of Mulims of spain can be said to be of vital importance to this day, as all the events that have been described in this book that have been meted out to the Muslims of spain in Inquisition is being delivered in some form or other to the Muslims living in and around the world. Palestine being an open example and Uyghurs in China have suffering the same.
It all starts with fanaticism and then riots and eradication and mass slaughter follows. There will always be few who have sympathy and will help but the masses who have no or zero knowledge of the victim will take pleasure in killing them and will not feel a bit of sympathy, for they are not fed the knowledge but hatred that satiesfies their hunger. The Vatican played important part in the Inquisition and people sitting in buildings safe from any harm decides what God wills.
Some part, Muslims must have done like learning Spanish and letting go of their Arab ego without abandoning their identity. But they failed in some part to convey the message of Islam to the Spaniards and partly because of this they have suffered this treatement. But Buchering an entire population has no justification, it is just the blind hatred that drives it.
Many more can be taken from this book and learned about the Moriscos who were forcefully converted and then often declared heretics, apostates and infedels.

decent historic account. language's a bit archaic and obsolete, I think it needs a newer edition, with the new English.

Everything declines after reaching perfection …

O who will redress the humiliation of a people who were once powerful, a people whose condition injustice and tyrants have changed?
Yesterday they were kings in their own homes, but today they are slaves in the land of the infidel!
Were you to see them bewildered, with no one to guide them, wearing the cloth of shame in its different shades,
And were you to behold their weeping when they are sold, it would strike fear into your heart, and sorrow would seize you.
Alas, many a maiden as fair as the sun when it rises, as though she were rubies and pearls,
Is led off to abomination by a barbarian against her will, while her eye is in tears and her heart is stunned.
The heart melts with sorrow at such sights, if there is any Islam or faith in that heart!’ ~~~ These words were written by the poet Ar-Rundi after Seville fell to Ferdinand III of Castile (1199-1252) in December 1248. By that date many other cities, including Valencia, Murcia, Jaén and Córdoba, had been captured and it seemed that the end of Muslim Spain was imminent
This book speaks in volume a tragedy commanding a deepest sympathy, but it epitomizes nearly all errors and tendencies which combined to cast down Spain, in little more than a century, from its splendour under Charles V to its humilation under Carlos II

A harrowing tale of religious ignorance,intolerance and fanaticism. Over a decade ago the events related in this book would have been conveniently explained away as the benightedness of the Dark/Middle ages. But since 9/11, this historical narrative is even more pertinent to our so-called modern world, for everyone that is, not just the demonised Islamic world.
