This is a quick shifter romance.

It’s what I think of as a throwaway. Which sounds more negative than intended. It’s a nice quick read with two very likeable characters. It’s just that there’s nothing new here. It’s not a book I’ll remember or ever re-read. Hence the throwaway bit.

I want to give 2* but anyone looking at that will assume it’s a bad book. And it’s not. It’s just a quick easy read.

So even though using my rating system this is a 2* read I’m giving 3*. Because I did enjoy it.

Great start to a new series... 4 stars!

Megan has had a terrible past couple of days with catching her husband cheating on her in their own bed and an incoming hurricane threatening her home and her business, but things begin to look up when Roman saves her life. Too bad he thinks he can turn into a polar bear...

I felt so bad for Megan having to deal with her ex-husband Dylan who was a complete jackass! Roman was such a sweetheart who was determined to show Megan what real love and happiness could be like with him. Not my favorite tropes, but I enjoyed it overall ♡

Serie P.O.L.A.R. libro 1

ME EQUIVOQUÉ!

A esas alturas me estaba dando cabezazos!

Qué hace ella a continuación?

DNF too much *Spoilers*

****** SOILERS BELOW *********

I made it to 19% or chapter 6. They have yet to met. The h has walked in on her husband cheating, stayed with for days, was physically and verbally attacked by him. All of this an more and the h is monologuing about how she should look at divorce as an option. She doesn’t want to be like the rest of her family. And I am done. This is not for me.
These are my personal views and should not region the Author in any way. I had no issues with the writing itself. I received nothing no compensation for my review.

I didn’t even make it through chapter 13. How much of a doormat could she possibly be?!? He just cheated and she just waits for them to take there sweet time AND she doesn’t ask for a divorce when he’s so flippant about him getting caught cheating. He’s verbally abusive and at least once physically abused her and still nothing. Enough bad mouthing, up to what I read just pissed me off.

This was okay. Another shapeshifter story. There's nothing in this one that stands out or makes it particularly good as far as i'm concerned.

Here’s a slightly different take on the shifter special ops subgenre of shifter paranormal romance stories. P.O.L.A.R. (Private Ops: League Arctic Rescue) somehow pissed off someone high up in the administrative hierarchy which resulted in the entire team being transferred from Siberia, Russia to Sunkissed Key, Florida. That really sucks. (Having lived in Alaska, only to be relocated back to SoCal, I can totally attest to how MISERABLE this is to a metabolism adjusted to more frosty climes!) Serge, the ops’ leader, at least has a mate, but the rest of these polar bear shifters have nothing to distract them. Poor boys. Perhaps Book 1 will resolve that issue with at least one operative.

Megan is an artist whose specialty involves digital photography. She and her husband of twelve years have sunk their finances into opening a shop, displaying Megan’s work (as well as custom framing). However, when NOAA sends out the word of Hurricane Matilda will be making landfall at Sunkissed Key, she closes shop to warn her husband… and walks into her cuckolding spouse and The Other Woman in bed. Instead of even expressing one ounce of remorse or shame, Dylan blames his infidelity on her own lacking qualities as a wife. He leaves the house with a lasting quote in my head: “I don’t know what’s gotten into you.” (What do you mean by that??!! Megan should be saying that of you, you jerk!) Great way to back out of a relationship, but there is more to come before he blows out of her life… but that’ll have to be read because I couldn’t believe how crass he was. All to distract Megan from doing what she needed to do — like save her own life.

When she stumbles outside and begins to drive around to find safety, she and her SUV are swept into sea by the rising waters that has been swallowing up Sunkissed Key the last few days as Hurricane Matilda makes landfall. Not good.

Enter Roman, a P.O.L.A.R. operative whose team is to provide whatever services required in Sunkissed Key and the surrounding land/ocean. When he hears her screams for help, Roman extricates her from Mother Nature’s craw. Of course, his inner polar bear sees her as their ideal mate. (Isn’t that how this story usually goes?) But it takes a while for her inner child to hear the same message. And not without problems perpetrated by Hurricane Dylan.

Length and pace: It’s a longish novella. Good for 1-2 hours’ worth of reading. The pace is just right for me and the story when you work out the timeline. As long as the reader knows this is more for brain candy than anything else, you should not be disappointed in the length.

Characters: Roman is allegedly from Siberia amongst a group of “ex-pats”. Which nationalities, I don’t really know. I have knows Siberian aboriginals, Siberian nationals, and American ex-pats that spent plenty of time in Siberia. I tried to see if there was any similarities, and the closest I was able to get were my ex-pat friends. Why? Because they were truly Americans at heart! (Or could be British, too!) I never got that Siberian vibe from Roman or anyone of the P.O.L.A.R. team though I wish I had. I do appreciate Roman’s devotion to human life in general, and more specifically, his devotion to Megan and her safety. No husband should abandon his wife even if he was not “in love” with her. At least he should understand the marriage vows which dictates that he is to protect and help her, not do what he pleased. As for Megan, I do appreciate that the writer didn’t do all the back-and-forth how she could possibly fall in love with a previously unknown stranger after twenty-four hours. I’ve read that plot line too many times. At least Megan had a brain. I know that Ayers wrote her rather strangely at the beginning where she was more spending thought time about her possessions than being concerned about her husband’s cockolding her at that very moment. It demonstrated her coping mechanisms under extreme stress. She even knew how most women should respond. (Personally, I would have killed him and have Hurricane Matilda dispose of his worthless body.) I have seen very intelligent women respond the way she did. It doesn’t mean that Megan was being unrealistic in her behavior. This was very refreshing as it only proved how detached she had become with her husband and how well she was trained to act like a circus dog at her master’s behest. How else would Dylan have viewed her?

I do like how Roman and Megan interact with each other. It might be considered less than romantic, but some great love affairs start off as a slow simmer. I am not expecting gigantic fireworks going off. I want to see quality and intimacy in a relationship. That’s why I really liked the bathroom scene in which these two are literally thrown together to survive in a house that might not survive a hurricane. As even Roman thought, it wasn’t that he just needed to be romantic with Megan. He needed to be with her, experiencing life with her even if it was just the “Oh, honey! You're home! How did work go today?” in the late afternoon when he showed up in her kitchen. The true maturation process of an adrenalin junkie. It was really sweet because he realized that a lot of what had to be done was to sit back and be patient as it was all up to Megan to get some work done in order for them to proceed with their relationship. You just have to read it.

World-creation: Sunkissed Key, Florida… Is this really, truly realistic? Considering global warming over the last one hundred years, the location, and increasingly destructive storms and hurricanes, I would have made this key far larger. The size of a key like this isn’t sustainable. At least quadruple the size. Now we’re talking about something that can house the environment she’s trying to create. There has to be more width and elevation to prevent the isle being washed away by hurricanes and tsunamis. (Not unlike Kodiak, AK!) I do like some of the minor characters introduced including dear old Susie of the Bayfront Diner and her exuberant cinnamon rolls and all the sweet tea for the asking.

Continuity, plot, and editing: Sadly, I am still seeing the usual punctuation, grammar, and spelling problems. Could have used a few more read-throughs to catch them all. (But isn’t that the editor’s job? Oh well…) Continuity was intact. I know the storyline is rather pat and obviously too much of a template. I have to admit that I am driven to give this novella higher points because of the strength of the heroine to know what she had to do as well as the hero knowing what he should not be doing, and that’s because he didn’t totally act like a big, bad alpha that he can be. (Or did he...?)

Realism: As I mentioned in World-creating, Sunkissed Key was way too small to support that amount of people and survive the ocean. But she did research her physics of hurricanes pretty well. If she hadn’t been through a few of her own, she certainly figured out most of the angles. I liked how she described the lay of the land. I almost could walk down the main thoroughfare to find all the little streets taking me to fun and unusual places, including the Bayfront Diner. (I could almost smell the cinnamon.) Not many people would have figured out how to use a riptide to one’s benefit. I’m very familiar with swimming amongst these currents, so my brain didn’t do any unrealistic dinging in the part of the story where Roman rescues Megan. This was so realistic. The exposition was handled that well.

I really did like this book. In fact, I bought the rest in the series so far. It’s wonderful brain candy, but I would hope she would write a real novel to truly intrigue me. I’d pay twice as much I did for these!

Stars = 4
Plot = 3.5/5
Length and pace = 3.5/5
Characters = 4/5
World creation = 4/5
Romance = 4/5
Continuity and editing = 4/5
Realism = 4/5
Would I recommend this book = Yes

Chased Mate (Cybermates #3) was where my interest laid but as it is a spin-off of the series P.O.L.A.R. I thought to keep my reading order tidy, instead I am downgrading Ms. Ayers to a third book 'read maybe'.
This story had nice MC's and a nice comeuppance for the ex. Shifter rules prevent total action other than pleasing his mate. I felt ripped off that the author didn't deem it necessary to write the mate 'bonding'. The part where Megan wants to curl into the comfort of Roman's shifter fur was the only part I read that I found I desired.
The author states 'Fans of Zoe Chant, Terry Bolryder, Harmony Raines and T.S. Joyce may like this shapeshifter series'. If I wasn't already a huge fan of Terry Bolryder I probably would avoid those authors.

Stay healthy (completed my 14 days of self-isolating but I afraid to return to the outside world).

My Opinion

Usually I like Candace's books but this one was crap, stupid, and unrealistic for me. How can you watch your husband and another woman in your bed, wait for them to finish and then quietly say oh I guess we need to talk? Then sit on the the stairs so they can get dressed while you wait? Are you crazy? NOT REALISTIC! Those couple of chapters just ruined it for me. I didn't care about her or what happened to her afterwards. She became that dumb stupid doormat that I couldn't care less about. Not MY kind of book. I like my heroines to have a backbone. I can't recommend this story.

Florida storms bring clear skies

Megan is having a tough week, til she meets Roman. Roman is a displaced Polar Bear shifter living in South Florida exile with his specially trained shifter team. But when he saves Megan and they ride out the latest devastating hurricane together Destiny finds them and propels them. A quick easy read that brings all the challenges our fated mates face together in a lovely and loving manner.

DNF. I’m sorry when she didn’t kick her cheating husband out of the house after catching him with OW, I was shaking my head, when she took days doing other things and still didn’t kick him to the curb despite his asshole-ness, I couldn’t read any more.

*****Some spoilers ahead***

Megan's whole world was torn apart in like a week. She caught her husband cheating, then almost died in a hurricane. Her husband is a dick and she's been carrying him for the last 12 years. It even mentions in there that on their first date, she wanted one kind of pizza, but they got the kind he wanted instead. He pressed her to open her business, basically because he was too lazy to work anywhere else and she did it. He constantly belittled her and yet she stuck with him because her family has a history of divorces and she didn't want to be like them. I get that, but 12 years is a hell of an investment to a guy who just uses you.

It took a bit for Megan and Roman to meet, which if the book had been longer would have made more sense. I wish the book had been longer, as everything seemed a bit compressed. later in the book, I think she was gone for a month, but little was touched on about that. It seemed while she was gone, everything just magically fixed itself in just a sentence or two.

Some things just don't make sense. Like her husband evacuates the hurricane and the day after the hurricane he comes back. I'm not sure how, because his sidepiece took everything he took with him. I'm not sure what kind of car he had, but with 4 tvs and a bunch of other household items, including all the money from the business, that's a lot of stuff. I'm assuming when the mistress left him, she took the car instead of calling someone and moving everything into another vehicle all before he woke up and found her. If she took the car, how he did he get back so fast. It's a small island, so I doubt they would have allowed people to come back the day or two after the hurricane. Her entire business building was gone, so it doesn't make sense that people were allowed back so quickly. I don't know, I've never been in a hurricane, but it seems like common sense to me.

Don't get me wrong, I like this book. It's a good start to the series. However, the basis of the whole reason why the group is there, is just sort of left hanging. Like, I know something happened that caused them to be reassigned, and that it involves Hannah's and Serge's relationship, but that's about it. I feel like there is a story that we should have had before this series that introduces these guys and gives us Hannah's and Serge's story. If it's out there, I haven't found it.

Megan is devasted, or is she? She just found her husband in her bed with a thin girl and he is acting like it's her fault? She is a big girl granted, but they have been married for 12 years and she has always done everything to please him, but maybe this is what she needed to realize that she never really loved him. Then she is saved from drowning by the most gorgeous man she has ever seen and he could even carry her like she were a feather, but would it be crazy of her to jump Roman's bones just yet? After all she is a married woman and then to top it all off, the hot man is crazy, claims he can turn into a polar bear!

Roman is a Polar Bear out of Siberia, he and his fellow brothers are members of P.O.L.A.R. Rescue Bears. For some insane reason he and his team are stationed in The Keys in Florida where they are miserable as miserable can be. After all they are polar bears! Thank God they are going to see some action as Hurricane Matilda makes her way to the Keys, they haven't seen any action since they got there. Not that they wish for a hurricane...As Matilda hits, Roman sees a woman drowning and when he reaches her realizes that she is his fated mate. There was a reason for being sent to the hot Florida Keys after all, it was fate.

This was a very delightful story.

Nicht lachen! 😂

Solche Dinge halt.

Aber es war ganz nett.
Smutty, Short, Shifter Romance.
Also 3 Sterne.

pathetic woman, stays with her cheater husband and that with a Hurricane coming in!
She did not even had a backpack to go. Nothing. Then tries to board up the shop while the hurricane is hitting... that all was the most idiotic stuff I heard in some time... Sad to say it, but he was right, he took the money and left the danger zone. I would not want to be around a person like her too.

Show me someone that would? I would pack my stuff, leave and get a divorce. She doesn`t want a divorce because many in her family had divorces? Yo, what a dumb person. No wonder he had zero respect for her. She is pathetic and weak.
Plus you got to be a special kind of stupid, if you already are familiar with Hurricanes, to stay while it hits and try to board up windows... and have NOTHING already packed to go. What bs is this? cat 4 storm and they swim around?
Sorry but I find it insulting how a cat 5 or 4 in this book makes it look like child`s play. It is disgusting. Guess some of those polar bears have a magic want and clear up every road and mess..and that is why people are back right away and all is fine? You got to be kidding me!

One week.
That’s all it took for Megan’s world to fall apart.
She lost everything.
Her marriage—shattered.
Her business—demolished.
Her life—ruined.
Enter one hot Rescue Bear to pick up the pieces,
Build her back up,
And shower her with the love she’s never known, and always deserved.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:
P.O.L.A.R. (Private Ops: League Arctic Rescue) is a specialized, private operations task force—a maritime unit of polar bear shifters. Part of a world-wide, clandestine army comprised of the best of the best shifters, P.O.L.A.R.’s home base is Siberia…until the team pisses somebody off and gets re-assigned to Sunkissed Key, Florida and these arctic shifters suddenly find themselves surrounded by sun, sand, flip-flops and palm trees.

Heather's Notes
LOL polar bears in Florida. I liked this. It was a very enjoyable read. I felt like Megan let Dylan get away with a bit too much, and he really should have had to suffer more. He was a jerk, but still she didn't waver too much. Roman was sweet. I liked him and will look forward to reading more of this series.

A sweet love story that's easy to read through. This story is a nice love story with characters that are easy to understand. Meghan is stuck in mediocrity and her character is in a bad marriage. At first, I thought, okay, she'll wake up and straighten that stuff up, but she just keeps accepting it. I thought she was unrealistically portrayed especially after the scene when she goes home early. Then again after the storm, it was all just not jelling for me. I loved the P.O.L.A.R. team characters, especially the hero in this book. I wanted to like the story more, but I was just put off by the female seeming to need a hero to begin with for something that she could have handled herself if we're talking real life-like situations. I gave it 4 stars because the writing is excellent, the story is set up well, and the action is realistic in all other facets except the one I mentioned. It was easy to read, enjoyable, and held my interest.

What a good start to the series. At first it seemed kind of cliché that a woman, Megan, walks in on her husband going at it with a much younger beautiful woman in her own bed. But after that first chapter it is all a whole different story. Roman and the rest of the crew from the polar group of bears shifters have been sent to Sun kissed key Island Florida. Polar bears don’t do well in the Florida heat. But that’s what happens when there’s a major screwup, now they were all suffering the heat. Megan‘s husband is a first class jerk, and now there’s a hurricane coming and he is gone without any thought to Megan. Roman and the rest are out trying to save lives and protect everyone’s property when he realizes someone is drowning. That someone happens to be his mate Megan. Really good story, and I really love to see jerks getting what they deserve and the happily ever after that Megan and Roman get at the end.

Roman and his team have been relocated from Siberia to Florida and the it’s more than a shock for the polar boys. But it’s boring, so when a hurricane threatens the area, they’re all excited! Megan was plodding along in her life until it became a cliché, her hubs was having an affair in their bed, he left her in the hurricane, he took their money and the liquor!

Trying to board up her home and business alone and save what she could when the hurricane hits at full force and she’s almost swept away. Anxious all day, Roman traded positions with a teammate and was able to save Megan from being swept into the ocean.

Roman’s excited when his bear immediately declares Megan’s their mate while Roman the man is ready to wreak vengeance for all Megan’s soon to be ex took away from her and fate has something to say about it too, in this easy, fun read.

I loved this story! Too cute.

Of course it's a shifter book so you know there's some unlikely parts but, this book starts out cute and funny- think LOL funny- then gets a little sad and depressing, but you're lovingly sighing, cheering and chuckling again by the end! You'll love Megan and Roman! Four stars because it needed a little more details like- did the rat b@$!*d ex-husband get anything after the divorce, or did he slither away totally busted? Yes, please. And how did Roman scare him away? That must've been hilarious! Where did Megan's family get all their wealth? And did she start her business again? This definitely needed more info to feel finished. This was a very HFN book.

I think I like this series a lot :) Most of the women in this series are non virgins and have been married or in bad relationship...short and quick reads some funny spots the men are still drop dead gorgeous and sexy as ever...but...they are not so macho that they are cave men about things. All the men in this series are polar bear shifters from Russia now living in the Florida Keys...When a hurricane wreaks havoc Roman saves a woman who is nearly drowned in the ocean her husband evacuates without her and takes most of the money from their business as well as a lot of things from her home....Roman can't believe it but he knows he has found his mate....Megan can't believe the way she feels for this literal stranger she has only known for literally one day....

Fun

Format: ebook
Genre: Romance, paranormal, shifter (polar bear)
Standalone: yes
Part of a Series: P. O. L. A . R. (Private Ops: League Arctic Rescue) Book 1

4/5

I started Rescue Bear because I couldn’t get into the book I was reading. Rescue Bear instantly sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the concept of polar bear shifters being banished to Florida. Megan and Roman were explosive. I smiled throughout. I’ll definitely be checking out more of this series and this author.

Too short

There was so much left unsaid and questions left unanswered in this story, not to forget to mention the ridiculousness of this organisation being in such a hot place doing absolutely nothing except help out neighbours.

The message this story sent me was that if you are an oversized woman, then only a unique species could love you. It was all about the female's insecurity about her body issues, so the husband obviously had to be the bad guy in order to make the hero more of a dream come true by accepting her for what she was.

There was not enough depth to make this story enjoyable.

For what it was, it was a very cute little polar bear shifter romance.
I listened to the audio version, and the actors made the story; it was so sweet.
Megan's life falls apart when she finds her husband cheating, before getting caught in a hurricane. Incomes Roman, who saves her from the waters, bandages her, and realizes she is his mate. After the storm settles, he tells her what he is, and due to everything she's been through, she can't give him an answer straight away. She knows it's not a no, but she needs time, which Roman gives him. A good month of time, according to the story timeline. I want more of them. Although, of course, by the end we get our HEA.
