The world is no longer the way we remember. Few are even still alive to recall the days when midnight didn’t mean cowered away & hidden. Out of sight became our only way to survive since the...Century Vampires. If you want to live, trust no one.

This had an interesting storyline with some creepy, heart pounding moments, but parts of the action just seemed boring and forced. And the editing issues were really frustrating.
When she got sick, and the vampire who looked familiar to her began following her, it was pretty obvious where this was all headed, especially once Mark realized everyone was keeping secrets from him. The conclusion was, in some ways, a surprise, but the characters weren't really created fully so, at times, I just didn't care what was happening to them.
I don't understand why the three novellas weren't written as just one novel. Especially with the way they each end - the only reason we know the novella has ended, instead of just moving to another chapter, is because of the discussion questions at the end of each one.
That is one of the things I liked - the discussion questions. BUT discussion questions show that this is written for a younger crowd, which makes me question WHY there is a sex scene (though glazed over) in the first novella.
This is the third series that I have read of Ami's in the last few weeks. My favorite was Dumah's Demons (the short story in between book 1 and 2 in her Angelfire Chronicles series). My least favorite was the Zombie Housewives series. This series falls in between those two, but I think editing and better writing could have made it a lot better than what it is.
Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
First off, I won my copy of this book via a giveaway hosted at Booklikes.
I have a very hard time believing the words at the very end of this book that claim the author graduated with a BA in English in addition to receiving teaching credentials on top of that. This is in serious need of an editor. Mistakes I can overlook to a point, formatting is crucial for a smooth reading experience, but constant choppy sentences are not acceptable. I can understand and appreciate that particular style when used to convey the tension in a particularly important action scene; but throughout the whole book, when the characters are doing something as mundane as...eating? No. I had entered the giveaway for this hoping it would redeem the image of vampires in literature, and I could recommend it to all my friends who agree that vampire's DON'T sparkle. (Yes, I read the series. No, I'm not a "twi-hard." Unfortunately for me, I have a character trait that demands I finish what I start.) This really didn't do that.
The above being said, I really enjoyed the artwork. The premise is good, but I did see the plot-twist coming from a mile away.
I was gifted this book from the author for an honest review. The author has pictures within the book to coincide with certain scenes of the book along with a glossary to clear up anything that might not make sense to you. In the year 2125, vampires rule the earth. Aura & Mark go out during the day when it is the safest and eliminate the caves that they dwell in. Running low on food and ammo, they go see Carla who along with 2 other scientists can give them the supplies that they need. Aura is sick and Simpson can give her something to make her feel better. As they are returning back to their home base, they are attacked by a hoard of vampires and Aura is taken. Mark contacts the scientists to help him get her back but with much resistance from the vampires. Can Mark save Aura in time to keep her from being turned? What secrets will Mark and Aura find out about who Aura really is? I personally couldn’t get into the book, but just because it wasn’t for me I say give the book a chance.
This was a completely different vampire story that I was expecting. I don't want to give away the plot but people are not what they seem. I was lucky enough to get a copy with illustrations. I look forward to more from this Author.
It is 2125. Vampires have taken over the world. Most humans live between 6 am and 6 pm. Those that don’t are eaten. Mark and Aura are two people that are trying to survive but also kill as many vampires that they can. They have been together for a couple years and have become a good team. But there is something about Aura. She can sense the vampires, knows different tricks to keep them safe, and although she is petite, she packs one heck of a kick.
There are also a couple humans in the Underground that are working to defeat the vampires. Aura discovered them and visits them regularly. She tends to get sick and they provide the medicine she needs. They also have a vampire repellant that Aura and Mark use every night to keep the vampires from breaching the doors and windows of their home.
One night while Mark and Aura are out, they come across a vampire that has been hunting Aura for several years. Although they escape, they keep running into him. At one point several vampires attack them and Aura is taken. Now it is up to Mark to save her.
I really liked this book. It is actually a collection of the first three novellas in the series. I loved the concept. Here are these two people that are trying to survive and kill the vampires any way that they can.
I will admit that there are a couple things that kind of bothered me. Mark is rather whiney. When Aura is kidnapped he started acting like an emo brat. I do like a guy in the story really loving a woman and willing to fight for her. But I’m more into the strong guys, not the ones that become obsessed stalker types.
Having said that, I really did enjoy the stories. I will be getting the next books as soon as they come out. This is a story that I think most paranormal romance readers will like.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I received a copy of Midnight: Century of the Vampires 1-3 courtesy of LibraryThing and Ami Blackwelder in exchange for a review.
Midnight is set in the future, after vampires have taken over and there are hardly any humans left. Aura and Mark have been survived in hiding together for a few years, with the help of the underground scientists, Carla, Roger, and Simpson. The story wasn't bad, pretty fast paced with lots of action. Mark and Aura are trying to find the vamps in the daylight hours, anywhere they can, to blow them up. Aura gets kidnapped at one point, so Mark enlists the scientists to help retrieve her, and they all run into some trouble and surprises.
I enjoyed Midnight for the most part, but at times I had to wonder if Aura and Mark were just wasting their energy in a futile attempt to get rid of the vamps. The chemistry between the two had to be explained to me, it wasn't too obvious, but it's hard to have romance when you're running for your life. The back story about the vampire take over must be explained in parts 4-6, and I'm interested in finding out how they came about in such full force.
I was lucky enough to get a chance to review this omnibus and found it to be rather enjoyable. There are three novellas contained within that give the reader a chance to start get to know Aura and Mark and watch their relationship develop. We are also introduced to a group of scientists that that add another interesting dynamic to the stories.
After reading the first three novellas in this series I admit be being filled with questions such as how this war ever came about and the mystery surrounding Aura. The stories however are good enough that I am more then willing to wait on the answers. I also found it refreshing that while there is romance involved it's not all about a sexy vampire.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy the paranormal. I rate this book a 3.4.
***I was given this omnibus by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this short story series. If your looking for traditional vampires (Not all cute and lovey dovey), lots of action, and not your average damsel in distress. These books are for you. It’s exactly what I needed to give me a Vamp fix.
The storyline to these books were not only really interesting, I didn’t guess the twists until they happened, sure I had my suspicions, but it kept me guessing. It was really descriptive, I did have a little trouble picturing the surroundings (it may just have been me) but the characters were described in a lot of detail which made it easy to loose yourself in the story.
I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this book from the author. If you like vampire fiction, you will enjoy this book! This was the first thing I had read of Ami's, but totally enjoyed it and was left wanting more as the book came to a close. Lots of twists and turns throughout the book. Relationship between Mary & Aura grew and changed throughout the book and I so look forward to reading more about them in the future.
This was a book about vampires, not the glittery type of vampires; but the apex type ones. The ones that were ripping out throats and heads off of shoulders. They were/are also in a war with the rest of the human population. There were two main characters in this story and it depicts there efforts at survival. A very good story if you like dark, menacing, end of the world type plots.
