Taking Time to Quiet Your Soul is designed to be used with the Quieting a Noisy Soul discipleship program. The book contains a seminar syllabus with a basic outline and illustrations as well as an interactive study guide with appendices. This focused study reinforces the simple, life-changing truths you learn while watching the videos and listening to the audio sessions.
A lifeline for me during a difficult time—this book helped refocus me on the Lord. Some main takeaways... 1) The root of my problem is unbelief, made worse by pride. 2) The solution to my problem is focused and prolonged meditation on the character and promises of God. 3) Worriers are expert meditators, but they meditate on contingencies rather than on what is true. I must meditate on what is true, starting with the character and promises of God. However, even beyond that, I must meditate on the truths of my situation, which lends itself to gratitude. 4) The relationship between unbelief, discontent, anger, anxiety, and despair (p. 8 diagram) 5) The connection between overcommitting our schedules (which leads to burnout) and unbelief, discontent, pride, etc. 6) Christlikeness is more valuable than anything else. 7) Although feelings can come and go, I am always responsible for my thoughts 8) The diagnostic question, "What would I be doing right now if I wasn't so fearful"? 9) "Your body will not rest while you push."
