Kim was still a teenager when she fled the Florida Everglades--and most people in her hometown of Cypress were glad to see her go. For Kim committed the cardinal small-town sin. She accused a local son of an unspeakable murder--and no one would ever let her forget it.

A decade later, Kim returns to Cypress to take over her late grandmother's bar. She hopes enough time has passed for her to go back to the only place she's ever called home. But the hatred Kim left behind is still waiting for her--and now she's in more danger than ever before.

It starts with a few dirty looks from the locals. Then a pick-up truck tries to run Kim off the road. The signs are all there. Someone wants Kim gone before more dirty secrets see the light of day. And if Kim doesn't go easy, a killer is going to make her wish she's never returned home...

Kim Lyons is informed her grandmother, Elva Lyons, died and she left her the bar and house she owned. So Kim leaves her boyfriend, Simon, and heads for the Everglades to a small town named Cypress. Once there she discovers the town still hasn't forgiven her for her claims that she saw Winn McGregor's truck near the location of a woman who was killed. But she is determined not to let them get to her. But someone really wants Kim gone and will do whatever it takes.

I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars. The mystery and suspense definitely deserve 4 stars but the romance was lacking and only deserves barely 3. I will admit I did not guess the whodunit. I had several others picked out and, well, I was wrong.

In a tale slightly reminiscent of the Hatfields and McCoys, families in Cypress, a town "tucked in the Everglades wetlands," have secrets, carry grudges and maneuver for revenge.
Elva Lyons operates a small tavern and when she dies suddenly, her granddaughter, Kim, finds she has inherited the tavern and Elva's home. The pull to go home from Tallahassee is too strong even though she would be facing the same people she had testified against in a murder trial and she would be leaving her safe, stuffy boyfriend until one of them decided what to do.
Once in Cypress, life becomes difficult for Kim as the locals have long memories and consider her an outsider. Efforts to keep the tavern, Southern Comfort, open is as difficult as believing her grandmother's death was an accident. It is then Kim takes on the task of finding out what really happened and she may just do that if she is allowed to live long enough.
While it is a light read, the writing is comfortable and the characters are authentic. Things aren't always what they seem and the resolution comes as a surprise.
Recommended for mystery lovers who like a good story to go along with it. Even if you've never thought of owning a pot-bellied pig and aren't crazy about pigs in general, you'll find yourself falling in love with the personable Oscar.

Kim was a great character. Lots of depth and intriguing. Zell is unlikable and self centered. Lying to protect your family does not erase the lie. This was not a romance. Lust is what these two had going. Maybe the author is fascinated with alligators. Not sure how many readers will find this topic appealing.

Drama and romance combined

First time reading this author, probably won’t be the last. The storyline kept me engaged and interested. The characters in the story are well written. There is plenty of drama, and a blossoming romance to add just the right touch. Oh yeah ... there are a few twists as well. Worth reading. Good writing as well.

Entertaining (more entertaining than intense) with many villains, a tough female protagonist, and other likeable characters. Note: The cast of characters are wealthy, working class, and poor "rednecks" as they called themselves with the setting being alligator country in the Florida Everglades.

This book was part of Dangerous Dozen: A Romantic Suspense Boxed Set. I got a copy of it from Xpresso Book Tours in exchange of an honest review.

I'll Be Watching You is my first book by Tina Wainscott. It did not impress me as much as I though it would. Romantic suspense is one of my favourite genres because it involves both a suspense/mystery and romance. It is a good mix of the two, which I found lacking in this book. The suspense part was very good and unpredictable, but the romance was pretty meh!

Ten years ago Kim testified against her stepfather in a murder case. Winnerow was a rich and influential man and a son of the Everglades. Nobody believed Kim, and after Winnerow was acquitted Kim became a pariah in town. She left soon after as she knew very well she would not be welcome.

Now, ten years later, the sudden death of Kim's grandmother, Elva brings her back. She is the sole owner of her grandmother's bar and house and all her assets. Even now the townspeople are cold towards her and will go to any extent to make her leave town. Some discrepancies in the bar's accounts, Kim's sudden inclusion in her grandmother's will, Elva's missing rifle and her confidant and lover Smitty's discomfort about her death leads Kim to believe something is wrong. And it maybe related to the murder that happened ten years ago. Trying to find her grandmother's killer might just get her killed.

When things get rough the last person Kim expects to help her is Zell Macgregor. The son of the man Kim testified against and the very man who lied outright in court to save his father. She has enough trouble on her own and she does not need a complication like the sexy and gorgeous Zell. And she definitely does not need to fall in love with him.

The suspense aspect of this book was very well done. It was very unpredictable. There were attacks on Kim's bar and her house and there were attacks on Kim herself. It became a little difficult to figure out if everything was done by the same person or two different people. The suspense aspect was the best part of the book.

As for the romance element, it was pretty mediocre. Kim and Zell's relationship was not very well done. They started off as enemies. Their transition to friends and later lovers were not clear. I also did not like Zell very much. Through out Kim and Zell's relationship there were a lot of lies and secrets, and pretty much all of them on Zell's part.

Ten years ago Zell pretty much branded Kim a liar in order to protect his father and even now he keeps lying to her. That is no basis for a successful relationship. Zell came across as a bit self-involved who thought everything he does is right. Sue he does have a caring and helpful side, but what I remembered was how hurtful he was to Kim and all the lies he told her. He is the kind of man who would do anything to protect his family. And that's not a bad thing, but he needed to learn the difference between right and wrong and stand for the right.

I liked Kim's grit and determination. Not matter what the townspeople threw at her, not matter how unwelcome they made her feel, she stood her ground. She came back stronger each time. That said there was nothing else worth remembering about Kim. The characters in this book were pretty forgettable.

The one character I did enjoy was Tullie, Zell's niece. She was a sweetheart but also too mature for her age. She kept having feelings about things, like before the death of Elva. Even though her mother brands Kim as a traitor and exclaims her to be a bad person, Tullie decides for herself if Kim is good or bad. She was the only character that I loved in this book.

If you are looking for a good suspense, this book is an amazing read. But overall with the romance aspect of the book, it's nothing great.

Really really enjoyed this book!!!!! It has everything, suspense, romance, tears, family feuds, laughter, awesome read that kept me up at night! I think one of the things I enjoyed so much, was that it was set in an area that I have not read about before with swamps, and gaters and mosquitoes and winders........ :) Good old fashioned rednecks!!!

Kim left her Grandmother and her town after she stands up to some of the towns influential families and comes off worse for ware. When her Grandmother passes away she returns to town with the plan to sell her bar and her house and get out ASAP. But the lure of a home and her family bar is too much and even thought the majority of the town despises her for accusing two popular town folk of a crime they were found not guilty for, she decides to follow her grandmother wish and stay in town.
Fortunately not everyone hates her, Smitty, her Grandmother's some time lover acts as a father figure for her and helps her keep the bar open. Oscar her Grandmothers pot bellied pig takes an instant liking to her. Although her step father's family hates her for accusing him of a crime, Zee her short time step brother seems to be more friendly that he was years ago when he sat in the witness stand and accused her of lying. When he continues to turn up just in time to save her from the town wrath she starts to see him in a new light. Zee is not just the spoilt kid that he was years ago, now he is an educated conservationist who works hard to keep the family gater business running well. He garners respect from the town and many people come to him for advice in their life. But it is hard for Kim to get a reading on him becasue he is so hot and cold, he does one thing to make her think that he cares and then says something to counteract his actions.
Unfortunately for Kim, her dream of belonging somewhere turn for the worse when she starts to suspect her Grandmother's death was not an accident, and they someone starts to threaten her life, but who is going to listen to her accuse someone in the town of murder again?

If you enjoy suspence that keeps you guessing, and a slow burning romance then don't miss out on this book!!!!!

This book had a little bit of everything. I really enjoyed myself while reading this book. It really drew you in and connect with the character. I feel for her small town blues and the tragic events that bring her back to the small town she fled years earlier. It felt real and her dreams were not something so far fetched for someone from a small town..

Kim is living with her unenthusiastic, less than mediocre "boyfriend" Simon when she finds out that her Grandmother Elva had died in a boating accident and left everything to Kim in her will. Kim, who had always dreamed of returning to her home but couldn't bring herself to because of her past, now finds herself in possession of the bar of her dreams and a place to call home. She is overwhelmed, initially thinking that it would be impossible to return home due to her history with the townsfolk. Here is her chance, but can she get over her past and move forward with her dreams?

Zell is a real man's man having gone through all of the eligible ladies in town and he doesn't see himself settling down anytime soon. The family alligator farm keeps him busy along with his environmental projects, and he's even a local guru nicknamed "The Sage". But will he be able to take a little of his own advice when Kim comes back to town?

This book has everything: murder, mystery, family feuds, romance and even alligators to boot! An enjoyable read.

This is a story of Kim Lyons who went back to her home town of Cypress where she wasn't wanted because she said Winn had killed her father and Buck and Winn killed Rhonda. After her grandmother Elva died and left her the bar, Southern Comfort and her home, Kim went back and wanted to stay. She met Zell MacGregor whom she doesn't want to feel any attraction to him since he is Winn's son and the MacGregor's hold grudges. Zell doesn't understand his feelings of protecting the enemy. Kim starts to look into the death of her grandmother and a lot of the town want her to go back where she came from.
I loved reading this book because I liked the mystery of what had happened and how Kim had to handle all that was thrown at her. I have never had the opportunity to read Tina Wainscott before, and I now like the way she tells her story. You won't be disappointed in reading this book.

First time reading this author and I loved it. Kim returns to her hometown after her grandmother dies. Zell owns a gator farm and his father was married to Kim's mother at one time. Ten years ago Kim accused Zell's father of murder but he was acquitted. Now she back to run her grandma's bar but someone wants her gone. When she starts digging into the past a lot of bad things start to happen to her.
This kept me on the edge of my seat with suspense and sexual tension. Zell is a laid back guy and Kim is afraid to give anyone her heart. Both have walls around their heart and are scared to let anyone in.

I absolutely loved this book and Miss Wainscott earned herself a new fan.

The story was not only riveting, but fun and exciting. The author literally paints pictures with words. Her descriptions are characterizations are very lush. I could feel the mugginess of the swamp, I could smell the beer at the bar, and I could perfectly picture Kim's grandma's house.

If I could give this book six stars I would. It's the best book I've read in ages and I put my weekend on hold to finish it.

I will definitely be checking out the author's other books. She's become an auto buy. Don't miss it!

Living in South Florida, I found this story of Suspense, Drama, and Love very believable. It takes place in the Everglades were a very small knit community keeps secrets and covers for each other. You don't see a lot on the news about this area, were others like Naples and Fort Myers you do. Makes you wonder how many missing persons actually become gator food. Very Good Read. I recommend to all that likes a good mystery with some love thrown in.

I loved this book! You have this small town with all it's secrets. Kim came because her grandmother passed away and left her her home and bar. Kim doesn't have a great history with the town. Ell is caught between family and not letting a woman get hurt. I won't spoil the end but I kept thinking I had it figured out but I kept changing my mind. This book is an amazing read!

This was a great murder mystery, which I don't read too often. The characters were all intriguing and the writing was good. I didn't know "whodunnit" until the end, so that was nice. The romance was even well done too. Overall a great book.

A slow read that rushed the ending. Every character was a suspect except the little girl who was made to seem as if she would have the key to everything but her involvement kinda fizzled along with the story.
