I have been waiting for Ryder and Maddox to be in the limelight as they are the two most intriguing men that I have been introduced to. Break Me Down is a story full of angst, heartbreak, innocence, love and relationships that are formed and the need for one another. Yes, this book is about Ryder and Heaven and the hurt, betrayal and love they have for one another however, Maddox plays a pivotal role in their relationship. There were times that I wanted to tell Heaven to run as fast as she can in the other direction but at the same time, I knew she would see the good in Ryder, even if he didn’t.
Heaven seems a bit of a rebel with her purple hair and tattoos but she really is a sweet and innocent 17-year old that has her life planned out. She wants to go to art school in France and works hard at her talent in the arts. While working one day at the diner four handsome guys walk in and she is taken back by two of them, Ryder and Maddox. The flirting starts and she doesn’t know how to react. Heaven is surprised that they give her their numbers and tell her they want to see her again. Over time they keep showing up at her dorm and her work. She does go away with them for a weekend and she is introduced to a lifestyle that Ryder and Maddox have come to live. How does she react? Heavens and Ryder do cross that line of friendship and for the most part, it is beautiful. Can their relationship handle the person that Ryder is when he is not calm or in control? When Heaven says or does the wrong thing, what are Ryder’s actions say about how he feels about her? When Heaven gets some news that she never thought she would ever get, how will they both deal with it? With the curve that life throws at her, Heaven tries her best to survive and live with the decisions that she has had to make.
Ryder is the sexy guitarist for the Sons of Sin band. He has had a rough life but he does come from a well-off family. He has formed a unique relationship with Maddox, a very close friend and bandmate. He lives the life of sex, drugs and rock and roll however when he meets Heaven, Pixie, he has seconds thoughts. Is he attracted to the idea of the case and her innocence that drives him or is it more that he does not want to admit to? When he finally gets her to spend time with him he does not push her out of her comfort zone until the weekend they all go away and she sees something that she shouldn’t have. Can Heaven forget what she saw? How will Ryder deal with her feelings? He keeps wanting to spend time with her but he is at odds on why he has this pull towards her. His relationship with Maddox is one that is based on needs and the fact that Maddox knows why he feels the way he does, shows their closeness. Ryder has a demon living in him that he doesn’t want Heaven to see or feel the wrath of, but that doesn’t happen. He breaks her heart and their life changes. Will she give him a second chance? When he has his heartbroken will his demon come out for good?
There is so much more to this story that I want to share but won’t. I’m still suffering from a book hangover and I feel that I will for a long time. Nola had my stomach in knots, my heart actually stopped beating and a few tears left my eyes. Ryder is a lost soul that you want to take in and show him how much love he has and deserves. Heaven is a soul that wants to save and love everyone as well as see the best in them. I highly recommend Break Me Down however, make sure you are in a comfortable spot and have a lot of time as you will be unable to put this book down.
