I finally read/skimmed (depending on the chapter) this book that had been sitting on my to-read shelf for a while, as well as the author's similar book 'Water Features for Small Gardens.' There is some overlap between the two books, including a few of the same gardens (with the focus in this one being a general look at the gardens' structures/designs, whereas the other book's focus is more narrowly on the gardens' water features), but I found them both helpful for the work I am doing in a landscaping class. This book shows various design tricks to help make fairly small garden spaces seem bigger and otherwise utilize space effectively, and is illustrated heavily with photos to show the various design concepts. I recommend both books for others looking for brief, picture-heavy overviews of garden design.
I didn't connect with this book. Somehow, I just didn't see in the pictures what the author was said to be illustrating. I hope it was the book and not my brain going bad!
