An apocalyptic virus. A crisis consultant. A 24-hour head start.

In 2035, in a hopelessly broken world, Nick Ritter is The Posh Prepper, a gifted crisis consultant who sells disaster-survival plans to rich and powerful clients.

Haunted by corrupt clients and a tragic past, Nick lives a reclusive life in overcrowded Boston, counting the days until he can retire to his survival ranch in New Zealand.

But when he gets an insider tip that a deadly virus is tearing through Boston, Nick has 24 hours to escape the city and flee to New Zealand. He has the perfect survival plan, but there’s just one problem…it doesn’t account for company.

As he scrambles toward safety, Nick picks up a ragtag group of followers:

Abby Blackwell, a pregnant teen runaway, is hiding a dark secret. If she can outrun her troubled past, she can start a new life. But trusting anyone could put everyone in danger.

Brian Donahue, a washed-up Navy SEAL, is scraping by as an escape pilot. Torn between family and duty, he’ll risk everything to complete this final mission.

Dana Foster, an overworked ER doctor, is haunted by human suffering. As the outbreak spreads, she faces an impossible choice: who should they save?

Now Nick must call on his disaster-planning skills to survive, facing off against a collapsing society to protect his newfound family and save mankind from extinction.

The Posh Prepper is a dark, tense, slow-burn apocalyptic thriller with an unforgettable cast of complex characters. Perfect for fans of T.L. Payne, Grace Hamilton, and Kyla Stone.

I couldn’t finish this book. I have no idea how it has so many positive reviews. An extremely wealthy crisis planner for the rich and famous….. doesn’t have a private plane, extraction team, or exclusive survival plan reserved solely for himself as the owner of his own company. Instead, he has to try his luck using the resources reserved for his thousands of clients. Thats like the owner of an airline company waiting on the standby list to board a commercial flight with the plebs. It makes no sense. If you’re going to make it where resources and money are seemingly endless for the main character, why make the story of his struggles so nonsensical?

Smart Prepper Fiction

In a world of cookie cutter Apocalypse porn read the posh prepper. There are 100's of examples of a survival minded Superman struggling to keep his family alive in print. This book separates itself from the crowd with engaging flawed characters and coming at disaster survival from a unique angle.

A great debut book by a new author.

I love a good viral - post-apocalypse - dystopian book. It was definitely the 1st, leading into the second and could have easily turned into the third. The writing style flowed well and you could tell the author took his time researching so there wasn't huge plot holes.

Honestly, it could have easily been a 5 star read except for its written in 3rd person. You kinda get multiple POVs but it was sometimes hard to differentiate the characters voice when they are "he" "she", ect. And several times the fact that it was in 3rd person instead of 1st yanked me back out of the story.

I almost always complain that most of these types of books skip the "fall" or the "collapse" but with this one, we got to go on the whole journey with our cast. Now I find myself wishing for some of the "how do they survive after", I'm really hoping the author continues writing and even if he doesn't revisit the same characters, maybe he can revisit the world and give us some of the survival after the " fall\collapse".

I started off reading this story and wondering were was it going with its Africa mine story. However this introduction leads into the viral catastrophe that ends the world as Rick knows it…. it is 2035 and he is prepared for an incident but to reach his safe place he needs to flee. This is the story of the motley crew he acquires and how their various stories mesh to make an excellent novel.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This appears to be a first book by this author and overall it was a very good effort. The writing was decent as was the editing (though Brian was spelled Brain at one point). Nick was actually not a favorite of mine; he was very prone to agonizing over much of his past and willing to just abandon people that had helped him. For all of his analysis and planning it all seemed to go awry most of the time, though that is likely going to happen in a real situation. As he does say, prepping is really about solving problems under pressure. Tracy was just annoying, though her sister, Dana, had a lot of promise, much if it unrealized. I did find it hard to believe that an ER doc would confess to being an easy crier. Not common in that field. Brian and Mikey ended up being some of the stronger characters. Abby was interesting, though, at 8 1/2 months pregnant, I certainly could not run up and down flights of stairs and unload crates. Might be her youthful constitution. The militia guys tended to be a stereotypic lot of yahoos as was the mad scientist. I found it a bit unbelievable that Nick had a contact with a governor and a senator-brother, but didn't make it a priority to tell them about Monroe, the origin of the virus and the DNA plan. Seems like that might be important. I most enjoyed the book with the concepts of prepping/planning and some of the priorities and techniques Nick used. That was all very interesting. Overall, I enjoyed the book.

This was way out of my usual zone — I don’t often go for apocalyptic or dystopian stories — but I ended up really into it. What pulled me in wasn’t just the survival part, but how the story moved across the world, giving these different glimpses of what was happening everywhere. It made the whole thing feel bigger and more real.
There was tension, of course, but also these quieter moments that caught me off guard. Not everything was explosions or chaos — sometimes it was just people trying to hold onto something human. I liked that balance. It wasn’t just end-of-the-world panic. There was space to think and feel.

Even if it’s not my usual type, I was surprised how much I cared about the characters by the end. Their choices, the way they adapted, and the moments of connection across all that distance… it worked.

Definitely something different for me, but I’m glad I listened. It stayed with me longer than I thought it would.

I did really enjoy this! A good length novel, something to get your teeth into! I liked the ideas & the character selection, good level of excitement & action! Not your normal run of the mill end of the world story, so that is great! I will look for more by this writer & do recommend!

Received as a review copy from Story Origin; also received an audio copy from the authors to review, this is an honest review. The narrator Bronson Pinchot performs extraordinarily to give life to this wildly intense and poignantly written book.

This is one of those stories that will leave you breathless by just how realistic haunting this story becomes. The author Todd Knight does an exceptional job with this story set as a virus is throwing the world into hellish chaos and allowing all of the rough edges of humanity that is slowing sinking into despair to shine through while also making space for just how humanity just won't surrender when the odds are stacked so high against us. Thought provoking and visually gritty... The Posh Prepper is an enthralling ride on the darkest of time. Highly recommended.

Not the typical apopcalipic survival novel.

I have been reading SF since I was 14.

The Posh Prepper is a VERY GOOD read!
I would nominate it for consideration of a Hugo, Nubula or Cambell.
You will not slog through an editorial reading bog or boring sets of padded word details but you will find a well paced read, fleshed out and clearly identifiable and easily followed characters, a plot that has deeper messages, humor, anger, frustration, surprises, twists, and opportunities to self reflect. This book will not wind you up but it will keep you reading it!
This was Mr. Knight's first effort. I hope he will write many more.

Catastrophes can hit at a moment’s notice, with devastating outcomes on people, infrastructures, acquisitions, and world economies. Todd Knight's The Posh Prepper: An Apocalyptic Survival Thriller is a novel that questions emergency preparedness against natural, biological, and technological disasters, at both personal and national levels.

The read starts by introducing Nick Ritter, a top crisis consultant from Thorne Global. Nick is "The Posh Prepper," the best in the business of designing survival plans for ultra-high-net-worth clients, on everything from wildfire to world war. He intensely believes that the cost of being prepared is nothing compared to the expenses incurred when caught without an emergency plan. Despite his mastery and expertise in his career, Nick had found himself in traumatizing positions in the past that put to the ultimate test his prowess and survival skills. Readers will encounter his horrific experience in Africa, where he had gotten trapped in a collapsed mine. His call to the company managers prior to the mine collapse to stay prepared for such forms of crisis through "emergency conditional" or "battle-proofing" strategies had fallen on deaf ears. Management seemed to be a disinterested group, who unbelievably didn't hesitate to recruit youngsters to work in the partially lit tunnels within the mine, among them a blind girl, and a breastfeeding mother.

Nick Ritter is a professional who would often boast about being a step ahead of everything that could ever go wrong. He would use this notion to lure high-end clients by having them believe that he could come up with seamless escape plans that were quick, safe, and comfortable, for people of all ages. Little did he know that later on in 2035, he would need to activate his own escape plan after getting wind of a terrible viral outbreak in the United States. This would certainly have him hasten his retirement plan to head to his ranch in New Zealand, despite being at the prime of his career. As the news reported, in just twenty-four hours, there were already a hundred and fifty airport employees sick, thirty of them in critical condition. Nick had thus been forced to start his getaway procedure immediately, but what he didn't know was that his company's CEO, TJ Chandra, would insert himself into Nick's escape plan. After overhearing Nick's phone call with his brother Paul regarding the deadly virus outbreak, TJ insisted he be included in the escape plan at any cost. But still there were hurdles to overcome...the pilot who had been hired for the get-away flight would also insist that his family be included in the escape plan. Despite his unwillingness to bring along other people, Nick would find himself pushed to the limit and wondering how he was supposed to hold everyone’s hand.

This is a book that readers will find enjoyable due to its suspense and the excitement of seeing how its characters react to catastrophes when under pressure. It will be praised for raising pensive questions about what readers would do in the same situation. While the book is fiction, it feels all too real, making it an essential read for our times.

Quill says: The Posh Prepper: An Apocalyptic Survival Thriller is a fast-paced novel, leading to a culmination that delivers sufficient closure without leaving readers hanging in anticipation for too long. Full of twists and turns, it is a thrilling read that a reader won’t be able to put down. Todd Knight is a star in the disaster thriller genre, and this novel is sure to cement his prominence as one of the best in the business. If you’re looking for an adrenaline-fueled ride, The Posh Prepper: An Apocalyptic Survival Thriller is the book for you.

In Todd Knight’s riveting novel, The Posh Prepper, we follow the dynamic journey of protagonist Nick Ritter, an expert survivalist frequently sought after by the elite for his bespoke emergency plans. However, in an ironic twist of fate, Ritter finds himself in dire need of his own strategies as a deadly virus brings the world to the precipice of extinction. Regrettably, his meticulously crafted plans consistently falter, compelling him to navigate a world consumed by disorder. Along this tumultuous journey, he forms an unlikely alliance with a diverse group of survivors, united by the singular goal of reaching his safe haven in New Zealand, a sanctuary seemingly immune to the pervasive destruction.

Set in the ominous backdrop of the 2030s, The Posh Prepper is a spellbinding apocalyptic thriller that holds the reader hostage with its relentless pace and unpredictable plot. Knight expertly manipulates suspense and tension, cultivating a narrative landscape that ensures the reader’s anticipation never wanes. The culmination of these elements is a crescendo of high stakes that leaves the reader gasping in trepidation and tantalizing anticipation.

The Posh Prepper may be the quickest I have ever devoured a 400-page book. The narrative momentum is propulsive, dragging the reader through its electrifying plot with an exhilarating velocity that mirrors the urgency of Ritter’s quest for survival.

Knight’s vivid and graphic descriptions serve as the novel’s lifeblood, effectively transforming the written word into a cinema of the mind. His unflinching portrayal of an apocalyptic reality is both haunting and immersive, a testament to his prowess as a storyteller.

Perhaps the most striking aspect of Knight’s narrative is his assembly of protagonists. These are not superhuman characters performing implausible feats; instead, they are relatable, flawed individuals relying on courage, intellect, and sheer determination to confront insurmountable odds.

Knight’s dialogue serves as a critical conduit for character development, enabling the reader to understand each character’s unique personality and emotional state through their verbal exchanges.

The Posh Prepper is a thrilling, immersive reading experience that weaves together elements of suspense, emotion, and human resilience. It’s an apocalypse tale that will linger in your consciousness long after the final page.

Very impressed

I didn’t expect to be wowed by this book, especially a debut novel. I was expecting a myriad grammatical errors and inconsistencies, of which this novel had none.
The story was easy to follow, I empathized with each of the characters and was rooting for all of them, which I haven’t felt for a character(s) in a very long time.
It’s obvious the author did his research, at times I felt like I was reading a manual on how to survive the apocalypse, which isn’t a bad thing. The only thing that irked me is
**SPOILER AHEAD**

How could they not check for a tracker when Nick was given Abby’s things?! Nick is a prepper, he thinks through every possible scenario but the possibility of a tracker slipped his mind??

**END SPOILER**

All that aside, this book is a must read. I never leave Amazon reviews for books I read (I know, I’m the worst) but felt I had to for this one. I’ve definitely become a fan of Todd Knight and am looking forward to reading more.

What an awesome book. I didn't expect this when I started. The storyline, the complex characters everything was perfect and it has all the makings for a 5 star. And especially if you have a habit of imagining the story as you read it as I do with this story, I can definitely say you are in for a treat.

To start with Nick, what a beautiful character and author had captured the complex emotions he is feeling. And while I start reading Nick itself I know he doesn't have that selfless hero thing that will be needed for an apocalypse but the way he turned around is what beautiful characterization means.

Next is Brian and for some reason I can only imagine a huge cuddly teddy bear even though he is the warrior of the group.

I always start a new series that too thriller series like this only if I knew that the series is completed because then I don't have to wait to see how it ends and now I have to wait for Nick, Brian and team until November GOSH........

PishPosh Prepper

Had such high hopes for this book, but it takes dystopian survival and prepping and absolutely rams it into an apocalyptic reading experience with completely flat unrealistic responses and situations, not to mention they made Tracy more unlikeable than the hag wife on Everybody Loves Raymond. The win for readers would be if Nick had clapped back at Tracy and left them for dead because the whole group is just a bunch of people holding sticks and beating the same dead horse; ignoring common sense & preaching about family with no realistic worldview is the only way the author knew how to further the plot line with any sort of urgency. Was not even worth the free read on kindleunlimited because of the amount of MY time that was wasted being frustrated but hopeful before realizing no, the whole book is terrible character monologuing and a fail on survivalism or self-preservation.

Enjoyed this book immensely - The characters were interesting and I cared about what happened to them from the first page. The pace was perfect with just enough terror and anxiety intermixed with "down" times when the characters were doing things like roasting marshmellows at a campfire - those scenes were great also and did not interfere with the forward momentum of the plot. The super villain was truly a bad guy for our modern times - loved to hate him. And there were many elements of the plot that seemed to be taken from news of the past 3 years. You will recognize things. I also loved how the whole "internet misinformation" thing was used by both the bad guys and ultimately by the good guys - it was inspired! This is one of the first books I've read that seems to be set in our current day. God help us all.

I throughly enjoyed my time reading this book. It was exciting and at times, edge of your seat intense. The characters were fantastic. All of them, even the “bad” guys. Each character felt very authentic both in their actions and growth throughout the story. I always enjoy a book with character you love to hate, and this one had a few.
The rhythm and flow of the book worked really well to keep the reader feeling the emotions of the moment. Overall a great and well written story that I highly recommend readers looking for a thrilling adventure with an interesting group of people. Wonderful debut novel and I look forward to reading more from this author!

Very surprising, exciting & fun!

This book started out in a very different direction. It seems the incredibly rich could afford to prepay and preplan for a comfortable, safe and luxurious life during the apocalypse. The average person would be ignored, left to suffer and die. Then the magical shift. An Elon musk type became human and not 100% selfish. The planner, organizer and instigator of many of the wealthy golden escapees from disaster, appeared to have a changing heart. All these changes and more twists & turns, amidst a scorched earth level disaster! A fun, exciting read that I did not expect. Any reader would become enthralled by this all-too-possible doomsday scenario.

3.5 stars. I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, it was well written and kept my interest as it detailed the frantic efforts of a "super-prepper", who is typically hired to assist the rich in prepping for the end of the world in it various imagined incarnations, to find safety for himself and various strays he picks up after a world-ending pandemic is started. On the other hand, the events were so fast and furious over as compressed timeframe that the various characters seemed like cardboard cutouts. Lastly, in my opinion, the book ended with a whimper in a rather rushed way. At the end I asked myself: "Huh, is that IT"????

A little sceptical initially, as I usually read apocalyptic novels that contain zombies, but thought I would give the book a go. Pleasantly surprised, enjoyed the mix match of characters that banded together in order to survive. Although the ending was good, I feel the author could have probably written a further sequel (or two) as I wanted so much to see how their survival panned out and what happened to Dr Teddy and the girls.
Saying that, really good debut novel, especially enjoyed how the author (Todd) delved into the way the human race would probably react to cures found for the majority of killer illnesses....... believable..... thank you Todd, looking forward to more of your work

The first few chapters, focused on a mine accident and the unleashing of a virus, were riveting, but it all went downhill into cheesy after that.

Nick's sole job is to be prepared for every scenario, he's makes millions of dollars doing this and is very strict about his rules. That is, until a real emergency happens and Nick is completely inept. The entire book takes place over maybe 48 hours, so it doesn't make sense that Nick abandons all he knows for these strangers. The supporting characters ranged from unlikable to annoying to caricatures.

There wasn't really an ending, the book just sort of limped to the finish line and stopped.

I enjoyed the author's different idea of introducing a crisis management specialist into the story to try to solve the issues created by the release of biological agents aka a virus in the world. But the problem is that the author claims he is a world class planner for different scenarios but then does not see obvious problems coming that any reader of this genre could see coming a mile away i.e. if your enemy gives you a gift there is a problem with it. I got this book free during Kindle giveaway so it did not cost me anything but time. If I find anymore free I would probably read them but doubt I will pay for the rest of the series.

Really enjoyed this take on post apocalyptic survival...

Overall, this was a very well-written novel with a completely fresh perspective on surviving an apocalyptic event. I did feel the "bad guys" were a little.... I don't know, maybe over the top while also being almost precognitive -- always able to find the group, etc...

And the "prepared" folks (that's really just the main character)encounter the same level of roadblocks as all other charatcter-preppers do. But that's obvs the nature of the genre.

Nevertheless, this one is definitely worth the read.
Sincerely,

Darn Good Book

I read.this in pretty much one sitting, with a break for sleep. I suggest waiting til you can do the same because you won't want to put it down. Seriously. These characters are great and I bet I'm still thinking about them all weeks from now. Cannot wait to see what the author, Todd Knight , has in-store for my future entertainment needs!!! This book is smooth reading...well edited ....such a well written story...such a GREAT well written story. Don't hesitate... Go get your copy, it won't disappoint.

engaging storytelling, but…

Harvard Med School has been living on a diminishing reputation for decades. It stopped grading and ranking students in the 80’s. It stopped having its students take national exams because they were doing so poorly relative to other schools. It consistently ranked in the 3rd quartile when it just stopped participating. The real top tier schools are Hopkins, Duke, Vanderbilt and a few others.

A decent plot that moves along. Unfortunately, I found it hard to get into because I could not suspend disbelief while reading it. First, due to my ex-husband being a Medical Doctor with an interest in plagues and other mass casualty incidents, the entire description of the illness was difficult to swallow because it wasn't believable. While it gave some entertaining ideas of what it might be like escaping from a city in an apocalyptic situation, the fact that they had unlimited funds also made it hard to immerse myself in reading this book. There were several sidetracks that were unnecessary to advance the plot like when they went back into Boston to rescue the girlfriend. While I enjoyed this book as a light adventure with some apocalyptic scenery, I simply couldn't take it as seriously as I could have.

I was so surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I picked it up thinking it would be just an easy read (I read to fall asleep - and often try to pick mediocre books so they wont keep me up - weird I know - but it works for sleep). But this book kept me up. The characters were so well developed and likeable. I wanted to know what they would do next. When I had to get on with my day, work, etc. I looked forward to the evening when I could get back to Nick, Brian, Abby and the rest of the gang. Really well written and very enjoyable. I hope Todd writes more in this series.

This should be made into a movie, A movie that follows the book explicitly!

I've read several apocalyptic novels, some were pretty good, some not so. But they were all pretty much the same story line. The Posh Pepper was certainly a refreshing change of pace and a pleasure to read. I also was impressed with the historical context that was part of the narrative, and more so because of the unrest going on in the world at this time. The world as we know it could fall like a house of cards in the near future.......Good job Todd Knight!

“There are three stages to disaster reaction: denial, deliberation, and decision. The goal is to skip the first, shorten the second, and optimize the third. It’s that simple. On 9/11, most Trade Center survivors waited between six and thirty minutes before heading for the stairs. They checked the news, looked for coworkers, sent emails, shut down computers, cleaned desks, called loved ones. One woman got out safely then went back upstairs to change into a tracksuit so she could bike home.”
