You’ll love this epic six-book series, written years before the events in Europe and Asia as the Master of Military Thrillers weaves us through a story more faction than fiction.

This Boxset includes the books, Battlefield Ukraine, Korea, Taiwan, Pacific, Russia, and China in one running format the way it was intended to be read.
Action & Technical Detail: A high-energy "popcorn" read. If you enjoy fast-paced tank battles, dogfights, and granular descriptions of military hardware, the pacing here delivers. However, the immersion is frequently broken by the prose; the author often relies on comic-book sound effects like "Bang, Boom, Zip, Zap" instead of descriptive writing.
SPOILER-FILLED CRITIQUE:
Geopolitical Logic & Forced Alliances: The coalition between India, China, and Russia feels forced and lacks strategic depth. India, in particular, joins a global war for seemingly no benefit—no territory, no resources—serving only to provide a "human wave" body count for the US to defeat.
The Nuclear Impossibility: The plot hinges on major powers agreeing to give up their nuclear arsenals. In reality, this is a national death sentence. No sovereign nation would surrender its ultimate deterrent to become a virtual vassal state. Ignoring "Defense in Depth": The US achieves victory by ignoring the actual defensive doctrines of Russia, China, and India. These nations have spent decades building A2/AD (Anti-Access/Area Denial) systems specifically to prevent the rapid "Charge to the Capital" maneuvers the author allows the US to pull off.
The "Junior Partner" Fallacy: The book treats NATO as a collection of complaining foot-draggers. This ignores the 2025 reality of the European Zeitenwende, where countries like Germany have pivoted to massive defense spending and strategic autonomy. Logistics & "Nerfing": The US magically builds a military 10x its size while being nuked, while the "NPC" enemy leaders make amateur mistakes and their "super-weapons" are mysteriously nerfed or disappear when it's time for the US to win.
Final Verdict: A fun military fantasy for hardware enthusiasts, but the reliance on 1980s cultural stereotypes (Russians drinking vodka vs. Americans drinking coffee) and the total disregard for logistical and nuclear reality makes it hard to take seriously as a techno-thriller.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. The emphasis on the effects of war on individual characters raised the interest level for me, and the inclusion of the last chapter describing their personal outcomes after the end of the war was appreciated. I believe the authors' treatment of the use of nuclear weapons in the book was particularly pragmatic as it rose above the usual one-dimensional consideration of moral issues alone. While I fear the use of such horrendously destructive weapons, I believe that giving in to tyrants is nothing more than slow suicide, particularly if you value basic human freedoms.
It began well. This was written well before the Ukraine war. The Russians are depicted as military and technological geniuses. I can forgive the author that as no one knew they were nothing more than paper tigers. What I find completely unrealistic is our response to the nuclear bombing of Oakland CA. We take a proportional response against China, then let the war continue for years. In reality the war would have ended at that point as no one wants global thermonuclear war. I personally stopped reading at that point. The author should have quit while he was ahead.
I have fallen in love with James and Miranda’s books! They combine a deep understanding of human behavior, how the sausage is made in D.C., small unit tactics, and what’s coming next in terms of war-tech, nation-state aspirations, and more.
If you’re a fan of Flynn, Thor, and Schlichter, get this book.
Good strategic level techo/alternate history thriller. Well thought out with plenty of technical details and background. Views of main characters tend to play to a simplistic anti-left/liberal conspiracy view but then again that is probably required for this sort of story. Regardless I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was put off the book by the condencending and false characterization of the somewhat stupid, anxious for war US military vs the calm, cool, peace loving diplomat trying to save the day. In my experience, which is much like Rosones, the opposite is more true than not. Not always, but more than not.
I'm amazed that these authors can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that they never stops writing. Their books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
I read Red Storm Rising ad a 20 y/o PFC in Germany in I believe 1990. As a young man I didn’t appreciate our role in Europe during the Cold War. Red Storm interested me because of the title. This was shockingly real. It has impacted me more than Red Storm Rosing. Great fiction and hopefully not foreshadow. Now I plan to hit another of your series.
This compiled series (books 1-6) is a tour de force by its authors. The depth of detail, believable characters and harrowing description of desperate combat make this opus well worth reading.
The series has been repackaged into what appears to be one book. I looked at when it was published, and thought it was a new series. It is not. Well worth the time for a second read! Still didn’t want to put it down. A good story!
Enjoyed the series and kept wanting to get to the conclusion to see if would make it through. Books could use a little better editing some mistakes were subtle but obvious to an alert reader
It has been a long time since I read anything that was not job-related or school-related. Red Storm got me back into the world of recreational reading. “I kissed the girl and I liked it!”
As a Retired Marine, this shows that one should always be aware, that Sleeping Bears and Tigers, if poked when sleeping will wake and dine on the pokee.
The novels held together and reflect current affairs accurately. Well done and enjoyable. Surprising amount of detail and sccenarios that have been echoed in reality.
This is an amazing read, because the detail of the armoured vehicles and naval and airborne assets of the opposing forces gives a powerful credence, to what is a work of fiction. I loved the characters and the development of the story. A great read!
Would recommend this to everyone that loves alternative military fiction. Well written and very believable considering what is happening in Ukraine right now.
