It’s been six years since The Poison Maker but the government still have full control over The Raft (an isolated island that used to be Great Britain). Now the government have their claws dug in deep Professor Savannah Selbourne really will be put to the test if she wants to save her family.
What I loved about the second book was the character development and I loved the introduction to whole new society. It made for a truly interesting read.
In my review of The Poison Maker I stated that this futuristic dystopian really struck a nerve. It’s a haunting tale on what could possibly be. The Invisible Kick adds to that feeling even more.
What a fabulous sequel to book 1 - heartbreaking and insightful as we grow to love the protagonists and lament their terrible predicament. I couldn’t stop reading and am thoroughly looking forward to book 3.
I was eagerly anticipating the sequel to the first book, and it did not disappoint. I truly enjoyed it, especially the ending, which intensified my anger and frustration with the world the characters inhabit. The middle of the book, however, felt a bit tedious with its repetitive elements and didn't grip me as much as the first installment. Nonetheless, I'm glad I pushed through because the beginning of the end was incredible. I devoured it; it was heartbreaking yet filled with hope.
Sav really grew on me this time, and I felt immense pain and angst for her. Without giving away any spoilers, my other favourite characters faced some heart-wrenching moments that brought me to tears. Emma has an exceptional ability to capture human nature and the greed for power above all else. The contrast between the centre and the perimeter seems stark, but it raises the question: are they really so different from real life?
Fantastic sequel to follow on from the poison maker. Savannah's troubles continue and she keeps making you want her to succeed in her fight to keep her family and friends safe. The writing is still lyrical and just leads you along until you're suddenly at the climax of the story. And that ending, woah.
I liked this one even more than the first! We get to see a little bit more of life on the raft, and get to learn more about characters that we met in book one. What happens near the end def made me cry a little lol
What a twist at the end but will there be a final even bigger twist in the final book in the series. So far I have really enjoyed these most unusual but very well written books.
