I have no idea if this book is the same as the one i read but i enjoyed the one that i did. Manuel was from the Totonac tribe in Mexico. Since they were illiterate and poverty stricken they were looked down by the rest of society. Manuel is a an inquisitive boy and doesn't accept the status quo. He meets Herman Aschmann, a Bible translator, and they help each other. When Manuel accepts Christ as his personal Savior his father disowns him. He continues to work for Herman and eventually has enough money saved up to go to Bible College. Manuel travels extensively, learns various languages and leads many people to Christ. Eventually he goes back home to build a school for his native people so they too can improve their lives and learn to know their Saviour.
