Some years ago I attempted to kill my wife – twice. I was deranged, and much has happened to me since. My crime, and all that followed after was so shocking and life-changing that I thought I should write it all down, from beginning to end. You see, I lost my well for a bit, and couldn’t remember my wife or my failed attempts to murder her, or anything about my life before my car crash until I … No. I shouldn’t tell you anymore. It’ll spoil the story.
Guy Middleton.
Imagine waking up in hospital and not knowing the woman, stood by your bedside, is your wife. You’d been in a car crash. You’ve lost your memory. The police find a loaded gun in the wreckage of your car. You have no idea how it came to be there.
Later your memory returns and you find you twice tried to kill your wife. You become a fugitive, hunted by the police, your wife and her gangster lover.
I spend most of my time writing and do it because I like it and hope it will please – but I don't try to please everyone. When I’m not writing, I look after my garden, cook, and spend time with friends and family. I enjoy music, movies, and the theatre. I read a great deal and watch some TV. In my life, I’ve experienced a few death-defying moments, achievements, failures, and near bankruptcy. I’ve enjoyed much personal happiness and been touched by tragedy. I thrive on adversity – thinking that where one door closes, another opens. I’m sanguine about life and don't see my past as special; just stuff I’ve been through. I work hard to use my life experiences and understanding of people to make my books realistic, compelling, and as good as I can get them. Most of all I want the reader to enjoy them.
I’ve written eight books under my name, my most recent work is I would have stayed. I’ve written six crime novels under the name of Mathew N Baker.
But I remain an optimist, a progressive, and have confidence in our ability to strive for a better world. It’s a hell of a lot improved from when I was born.
