A hometown series full of sexy romance, humor, and heart...
Carrie Lowell swears off men for good after nearly losing her business in a bitter divorce settlement to her abusive ex-husband. She's on the verge of filing bankruptcy when handsome librarian Matt Jacobs walks into her shop and offers sound—if unwanted—business advice. Sure, financially he's a godsend, but emotionally he's a threat to the barricade she's built around her heart.
Heir to a vast fortune, Jacob Spalding flees L.A. for the tiny Midwest town of Redemption, Wisconsin to escape the scandalous nightmare his life has become. Now known as Matt Jacobs, he buys a little cottage and settles in to small town life. Soon, he finds himself infatuated with the owner of the coffee shop across the street. Too bad the infuriating woman is as contrary as she is beautiful.
Whistling, Matt strode through the swinging door that separated the kitchen from the dining area and headed straight for the counter. He seemed rather pleased with himself. "All fixed. Anything else I can do before I head over to the library?"
"No. Thanks. I owe you for the air-conditioner. I have to admit, Jacobs, I'm impressed. You're a hard worker, and that's something I value."
His brow rose. "I'm sorry, did you just compliment me?"
She pursed her lips in an effort to hold back a grin, but lost the battle. "Don't get used to it." Her pulse sped up when he reached out and traced her jaw line with his fingertips, his gaze centered on her lips.
"Do you have any idea how beautiful you are?"
Carrie suddenly became lost in those gorgeous eyes and that handsome face. Words failed her. She swallowed hard and fought to keep from melting at his feet. He started to lean in and she panicked. Did he mean to kiss her? Right here in the shop where anyone could see them?
The door opened with a tinkling sound and he snatched his hand back, looking like a guilty little boy. Talk about saved by the bell. She cleared her throat and smiled as a couple of teenaged girls walked up to the counter. Her smiled faded when she realized they weren't there as customers. They both gazed up at Matt, their heavily made-up faces pathetically adoring.
"Hi," the curly-haired blonde cooed as her brunette friend clutched onto her arm, looking about ready to faint. Carrie rolled her eyes.
Matt met her gaze, amusement dancing in his eyes, before shooting the girls a wink. "What can I get for you ladies?"
"We were just wondering...what time does the library open?"
"In about two minutes. Come on, I'll walk you over."
"A good romance novel is like a bubble bath: steamy, relaxing, and over way too soon." ~ Donna Marie Rogers
USA Today bestselling author Donna Marie Rogers inherited her love of romance from her mother. Romance novels, soap operas, Little House On the Prairie--her mother loved them all. And though it wasn't until years later Donna would come to understand her mother's fascination with Charles Ingalls, Donna's love of the romance genre is every bit as all-consuming.
A Chicago native, Donna now lives in beautiful Northeast Wisconsin with her husband and children. She's an avid gardener and home-canner, as well as an admitted reality TV junkie. Her passion to read is only exceeded by her passion to write, so when she's not doing the wife and mother thing, you can usually find her sitting at the computer, creating exciting, memorable characters, fresh new worlds, and always happily-ever-afters. Donna also writes erotic romance as Liza James.
Simple, short, pretty well-written romance. The romance between the couple developed from animosity to engrossing love much too quickly to be realistic, making for some very strange dialogue. The sex scenes were more graphic than they needed to be to tell the story. To be completely honest the detail was embarrassing and completely unnecessary. This was one of 11 romances I downloaded in a “bundle.”
Carrie is full of spunk and sass. Matt is hiding out and happens to find the place he wants to be forever. They make a great team. Definitely a good addition to the series
THE PERFECT BLEND (Welcome to Redemption, Book 3) by Donna Marie Rogers
Carrie Lowell had totally sworn off men. Like did she know that would be 100% tested when Matt Jacobs walked into her shop? Carrie had a bitter divorce settlement and was just hanging on to her coffee shop by a thread. Sure Matt Jacobs is a financial godsend however he does a number on Carries heart. Matt Jacobs has a past that he had wanted to get rid of and that is how he landed in the small Midwest town of Redemption Wisconsin. He is well known as he is not really Matt Jacobs but he is Jacob Spalding from L.A. His life had turned into a nightmare. No one in Redemption knows he is really Jacob Spalding so that he has time to just blend in with the citizens of the town. Carrie is in such financial distress that she takes on a partner to help her out. Carrie's coffee shop is called "Coffee to Chai For" and with Matt's financial help and suggestions it gets expanded to be more of a restaurant and drive-through window. Added sandwiches and other lunch items and gets more business that way. While he is doing things with the coffee shop he gets the call that his dad is in the hospital from his sister Lindy. Matt is deciding whether he should go home and be with family or stay there and work on the shop and relationship with Carrie. Matt starts part time at the coffee shop to get used to it and then starts full time. Given Carrie some much needed time off. Donna Marie Rogers and Stacey Joy Netzel write such a good story that you just have to follow it. Books in the Redemption series are wonderful and just the right touch of love vs. hate vs. friendship vs. more. Enjoy the series.
This was a really good story about Carrie and Matt. These two definitely have an opinion on how things should be done. Carrie is guarding her heart and Matt is hiding from his past. When everything hits Matt at once he tries to sort everything out, but Carrie isn't sure she should trust him. I enjoyed watching these two talk things out together and try to help each other.
Man, I hate romances that go from 0 to engaged/married in a week. Nothing about their chemistry or romance suggested that this was a logical progression of emotion. Plus the "twist" is so outrageous that it needed at least another 50 pages just to set it straight.
