If you’re interested in the civil war and the Rio Grande Valley of Texas (Star, Hidalgo, Cameron counties) pick up this book. The book discusses staffing challenges of both the Confederacy and the Union in addition to deplorable conditions due to lack of supplies and living necessities. The Rio Grande Valley was vital to commerce for one side (you might be surprised) more than the other. Recommend the book.
