This pictorial keepsake book showcases the old general store nestled in the pastoral landscape of Burkittsville, Maryland, which has been in continuous operation since 1821. Preserved in its original 19th century appearance by the current proprietor, Paul J. Gilligan, the store is "frozen in time" in the 1860s, befitting its location among historic Civil War battlefields. Although it may appear to be a museum, it is actually an operating commercial establishment where one may find the most unexpected treasures in a charming, timeworn setting.
Also featured are the village of Burkittsville, and the Rural Legacy Program which focuses on preservation of the agricultural countryside.
