Dragon's Mate #7

Earth-Bound

Rate this book
He’s not weird, he’s just… unusual. And he’s looking for a home.

Weirdness follows Joe around but that doesn’t mean he’s weird.
Terrund has been trapped for years until a witch releases him from his tree. Emerging into the real world again is a challenge and so many things have changed. The biggest change? He has a mate out there. He can feel them nearby. Now all he has to do is find them and introduce them to the concept of earth spirits.

Luckily, Terrund finds himself surrounded by a found family of misfits who are more than willing to help. At least, they say they’re helping. Sometimes, he’s not so sure.

A light-hearted romance between an earth spirit who is regaining his power and a human who has learned to repress his connection with nature.

This book contains explicit language and scenes.

The seventh book in the Dragon’s Mate series, this is a celebration of new and established couples so it’s best to read this one after books 4 (Witch Mate?), 5 (Breaking Free) and 6 (Unworldly).

This book is perfect for fans of fantasy, fated mates and found families. Featuring an old-fashioned earth spirit, a gardener looking for a home, eccentric dragon shifters, a magical awakening and an HEA.

Find out what makes Joe finally feel like he belongs.

On books one and two of this series we had dragons, political intrigue, excitement, conflict. Book 7 has a human, an earth spirit, very little conflict. Politics who? We don't know her. And the dragons were relegated to background characters.
The tonal shift throughout the series has been impressive, though not in the best way. I went from being absolutely riveted in the first books, to being interested but not enthralled with the middle ones, to being utterly uninterested in books 6 and 7.

This book left me with a similar feeling than the last. It feels like bonus content, or a spin off novel, not related to the dragons we had been previously following. They appear more than in the last book, but as backgrounds characters. Also, it peeves me that we get a book in the "dragon's mate" series where there are no dragons getting their mate. We have a human which was introducing last book but had little to do with the plot, and an earth spirit that was trapped in an apple tree for the entirety of the last book. There wasn't much tension, but what little there was was resolved so easily that it was almost irrelevant.
The only thing that came out of this books was that in this book, the dragons find out about the dragon hunter in their area. Which is the one thing that sets us up for the last book, which leads us to the last book. Otherwise, I'd consider this book as skippable. The last one we finally get another dragon, at least.

*Found Family
*POV's en primera persona
*Un espíritu de la tierra y un adorable humano que ama las plantas

An earthen connection

A bit of a step away from the dragons but still a very sweet story!

When Randall was getting to know the town in the last book one of his favourite places to visit was a certain tree. It felt special to him and it turns out it is special because it is the home of a dryad who was locked into the tree. Terrund gets released from the tree as the magic gets broken, which surprises Randall. Even more surprising is that Terrund senses his mate, and it turns out to be the very human groundskeeper Joe.

Joe is human but he has always felt a connection to the earth that normal people mocked. Joe feels at home working for Randall and Broadmire, and then feels even more of a connection when he meets Terrund. But Joe doesn't know anything of the supernatural world and that will really complicate their potential relationship.

Mostly this story is light and sweet, with the biggest problem figuring out how these two can be together. Luckily Terrund is willing to talk, it's just a matter of if Joe will believe him. A light and easy read with a promise to dive back into the dragons in the next book!

2,7 stars rounded up.

This book is nice, not the worst in the series but definitely not the best either.

I found Joe’s trauma with being called weird and being mocked about magic and his reaction to thinking that that was what happening again as an adult a bit… much. And also the way he does a complete 360 and suddenly believes everythink afterwards a bit unbelievable.

I liked Terrund and the whole connection with nature magic and I loved seeing a bit more of Dee and Dum and their mates (and Ant and Dimply were also there but my focus was in Dee and Dum because I love them).

However, the romance was a bit meh and so was Terrund’s backstory and the witch-villain who was dead and yet managed to be the villain of the story anyways.

As I said, not the worst but not the best either. Overall a bit meh.

So, this seventh book of the Dragon's Mate series like the sixth one before it doesn't have a dragon MC in it either. I did really like both of these MCs though, and I enjoyed their story. We do have more cameos from dragons we'd met earlier in the series in this story and the teaser for the next book tells us that one of the MCs in it is a dragon again, so it feels like our little two book side quest is going to be over, and we'll be getting back on track in the series with dragons meeting their mates. However, the next dragon MC is part of a different clan than the one the earlier books followed; in fact, he is one of the few good people in a clan that are basically enemies of the one we've been following, so I'm now worried that we're shifting focus away from the people I learned to really like in the first five books of the series.

I am on a binge-read spree and will have to back up and review several books from my notes, but this one I needed to do immediately. - this book is not representative of the preceding series. It feels more forced and is not as vivid or complex as 1 - 6.
The main characters are so flat they might as well be pancakes. Any of the characters in the previous books have layers - Dum is impulsive, needy, obsessive, and just fine in the morally grey area. Dimpy is thoughtful, observant, methodical, not a fighter, but loyal.
These two? nada!
In addition, the plot is like a little side trip with no real depth- the author mentioned that it started as a short story and I maintain that it needs to be edited back and left as a short.

I don’t even know where to begin on how disappointed I am with this book. First, I suppose, is that this was originally a short story. It should have stayed that way. Second, I found Joe and his obsession with “weird” extremely annoying. Grow up. Geeze. Third, the curse at the end wouldn’t have even worked if they hadn’t gone in the house! None of that part made any sense!

The only enjoyable part of the book was seeing characters from previous books. If it weren’t for that I’d give it one star. I’ve been looking forward to Glimmer’s book since the second one but after this I’m not sure if I want to keep going with the series.

Oh yay! I love this series, and all this author's books 😊 This one was just as fun as the rest of the series, although it's probably the one I'd say qualifies the least as a standalone... it technically is, but it took me a hot second to remember the personalities and backstories of all the other series-characters who were included here, so I'm jealous of anyone who's finding the series now and gets to binge them all in order! (And I can't wait for the next one!)

I love this so much! ❤️

Joe is so adorable, and I just love Terrund. Their communion with plant life and the earth is the coolest thing. I can't get enough of their story. It's beautiful. This book is so well written.
