RATING: 4 stars to Ale's Fair in Love and War ★ ★ ★ ★
This first-in-series standalone comedy romance met the need of the moment and entertained me from the offset with a mutually felt animus shared by two proud, competitive neighbouring enemies, poised unaware that the well-evolved hostility that has become their not-so-surreptitious hate war is about to venture into a highly inconvenient attraction, or rather has been all along. Ale's Fair in Love and War was a lot of fun. This hero and heroine may have been objectionable by the standards of each other, but I certainly felt agreeable to this entertaining enemies to lovers romance. I haven't felt confident heading into a Sylvie Stewart romance prior this but, readying myself for what appeared to be a fun, retaliatory comical adventure, I launched in without pause and did not regret doing so. Hollis and Cash's respective establishments, Happy Tails salon and Blue Bigfoot Beer may both share the occupancy of providing respective retail services, but that's not to say that these two soon-to-be-lovers don't share some very like-minded qualities. A supporting cast establishes an imperfect and a fundamentally loving take on family systems. We have a boisterous, quirky and well rounded family in the Brooks, and I admit to enjoying the characterisation, of not just our starring couple, but of the surrounding relationships within the story. With warm and realistic notes in voice to the interrelationships of their respective families, the story captures the tensions and imperfections of family networks while enhancing the same values even through our central couple. The brotherly ribbing of the Brooks is teasing, knockabout and none-too gentle but their sibling-ship is quietly supportive and loving without question. Cash was the consummate example of this, and the consummate model of the responsibility figure as second-oldest of the Brooks clan. His family's troubles are his very own, a trait that has not abandoned him since he was old enough to begin contributing to the family home, and he'd do anything within his wearied capacity to take up and find the fix. Cash took it upon himself to be the provider for the Brooks clan, and he did it all without a second thought. A family guy at heart, a hardworking jobsworth to support his family, and a true gruff grump to all else around him.
Hollis acquired the space right next door to Cash's brewery when she broke free from parental aspiration and decided to pursue a passionate venture by starting up Happy Tails Salon, a fresh start-up business and an enterprise that aligns right next to her love for all things animalia. As much as a success she's made of herself and her small business during these very short few months, the lack of parental support and general encouragement for this new phase of her life doesn't slide by unnoticed. To make matters worse, she's not too tickled pink by her bull-headed nemesis next door who may serve up a variety of well-indulged adult beverages, but who certainly lacks the etiquette of assuming a passable human being with respectable manners. For a woman who tends to lifeforms not of the human variety, Cash fails to summon even an ounce of the likeability next to her favourite furry friends. Hollis was eager to put her best foot forward when she opened up shop, but since their first hostile encounter that resulted in Cash's characteristic ungracious dismissal and ensuing irascible judgement, Hollis has since decided not to give an inch, not even a foot, nor to take his bad attitude without biting back. And thus began a bullheaded rivalry to outdo each other and disturb the peace of every workday. As much as Cash waxes foul play and cries manipulative, entitled neighbour next door, it is in fact this surly bar owner who inspired the rancour from the very beginning. I especially favoured Hollis's talent to disturb his peace and her general aptness to be a worthy opponent in this prank war. As fun as it was to hear about their previous retaliatory efforts, and to see the pretentious disharmony in effect, the events of this book quite quickly call for a shift when things take a turn for the worst and Cash's business may no longer be in business. Believing Hollis to be the cause and perpetrator of this latest disaster, he's at a loss, but unaware of who Hollis really is above the assumption and what she'd do to right perceived mistakes, he doesn't expect her insistence to join forces to help Cash save his family business.
Cash and Hollis are both two sides of the same coin in some well-observed ways; they're both proud, competitive, righteously correct and unwilling to back down. They're exactly what the other requires and needs, even if they aren't thrilled to admit it, not even remotely keen on believing otherwise. And these character flaws did just as well to keep them apart as it does to bring them together. Not without some discord. A lesson learned once they face the mistaken opinions they've harboured of each other. Hackles, irritation and a veritable sense of outrage is what Cash and Hollis do rather well. Cash is gruff, blunt and impolite, and Hollis only seems to bring out those rather abrasive qualities in him, which was fun. Irritable rival Cash could have used some schooling from time to time, and caring, affectionate Cash was indeed my favourite, and once these two settle onto some level ground, they're rather compatible without entirely losing themselves to the shift. I really enjoyed the turnaround, and the emergence of Cash's boyfriend qualities. Hollis was a well-balanced character and her inner monologue did wallop me with unexpected laughs. The existing discord between herself and her parents was a believable part of the storyline, and well-handled. The characters are flawed but relatable, and both Cash and Hollis are confronted with those flaws as they're confronted with each other. I was admittedly hoping for the opposite of a third-act break-up however, because as far as testing a relationship goes, it would have been beneficial to see them pull together as opposed to holding onto those initially held older beliefs that pulled them apart to begin with (I look at you, Cash Brooks when I say that). All in all, the characterisation was true to the character arcs and the characterful components were certainly welcoming.
Comical and confident prose opens up an enduring mutual animosity, mutual irritation and a mutually - highly inconvenient - high-energy attraction. A hate-to love romance both amusing and diverting, and the sexual rapport was far from inconspicuous, fully appreciated and undeniably undisguised. What was a happy habit of neighbour nuisance unexpectedly courts a begrudging dynamic that demystifies who both Cash and Hollis assumed the other to be in an easily-flowing storyline. This dog groomer's rivalry with her neighbour is bested only by the one she has with herself, because grumpy bar owners also happen to be unfairly gorgeous. A fun read from Sylvie Stewart, and the enemies to lovers escapade was executed with flair and fun character chemistry. I lost count of all the laughs and smiles that came out of me. A charming, zany and delightfully smutty romance that flows strong and smooth, like a certain bar beverage, one might say. A sense of humour meets the realities of a struggling bar owner and a prank prodigy pet groomer, which amounted to a very readable standalone romantic comedy.

I loved this book. The banter between Hollis and Cash was fireworks, really. Their chemistry was palpable, them just going at each others throats was so damn entertening to watch. Hollis was her own person, trying to be herself despite who her family was and I congratulate her for that, not many can or even want to try on their own when they don't have to. Cash just took his all family on his back, without asking for help, he took the role of provider and protector, and that's just how he was. I loved them together, they were the same but at the same time, so diferent from each other, they just belonged

Sylvie had me at the books title - Ale's Fair in Love and War: An Enemies-to-Lovers Romance. It is a standalone steamy Rom Com and is the first book in the Love on Tap series that promises good things. Sylvie has become a favourite author. I enjoy her work because they are an easy, light and fun read.
This enemies-to-lovers romance will find yourself laughing out loud at the sassy and snarky antics and banter and find yourself loving each and every one of these crazy and quirky characters, flawed or not they are family. It is a quick read that is told in several POV’s, which I love. The main characters are cute as they push and pull and dance around one another.
What do you do when your neighbour is a pain in your ar$e but is hot as hell? Well, you sit back and watch the sparks fly……… With a big crazy family that are hilarious and lots of chemistry what could go wrong? If only they can get on the same page.
This is a fun, sweet, humorous and steamy entertaining read!

Hollis has opened her dream, a dog grooming parlour and is just trying to build up her business, so when she enter the pub next door to give away some flyers she did not expect full out war with the owner.
As the practical jokes get more and more elaborate Cash and Hollis start feeling chemistry between them until a misunderstanding causes an explosion in more ways than one.
I love this author’s writing style, she writes warm and rich characters which instantly make there way to your heart and Hollis and Cash are no different. The start of the book just lets you peak in just enough to have you hooked and can put the book down until you find out what happens.
I loved the character of Hollis so sassy and independent wanting to make a life for herself without the trappings of her parents money which was refreshing to read. I loved also Cash and how at the beginning you see him as this gruff man but slowly within the story he becomes a great man and I think I have yet another book boyfriend lol.

The first book in the Love on Tap series brings Hollis and Cash's story. The author brings a cast of strong characters and weaves an entertaining enemies to lovers romance. She brings humor with their pranks and throws in enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. It's well written with perfectly painted scenes, moves fluidly and is an enjoyable read. I'm looking forward to the next book.

This is a very enjoyable hate-to-love, happy romance. Hollis has opened a pet grooming store and is determined to be successful on her own without the help of her wealthy stepfather. Cash manages the family-owned bar next door. He’s devoted to the business, and to helping his siblings, his widowed mom and others. Both characters dislike and have misconceptions about the other, along with inconvenient sparks. After Cash’s reckless younger brother breaks off his flirtation with Hollis’ spoiled half-sister, events are triggered that put the bar’s business in danger. Hollis guiltily concludes that her wealthy family is behind the threat. The characters begin to work together to save the bar, while their romance develops. When Cash admits to Hollis that he might have gotten things wrong about her, it was 100% swoon worthy. This story has plenty of adult heat, some humor, great supporting characters and a satisfying HEA. Thanks to a few small plot questions (such as the unanswered question why Cash’s older brother moved back home), the next book in this series in now on my “must read” list too. Recommended. I received an advance copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was an out of the box win for me. Every line in this book was so witty and humorous that I found myself giggling at the pranks and situations that Hollis and Cash kept getting themselves into and out of. I loved how this was not just a bit of side fluff to entertain the reader, but that these pranks were a part of a well developed and wonderfully paced plot. Not only were the dynamics and banter between the main pairing electric, but so were those between the secondary characters as well. Each character added just the right amount of tension and suspense that I know will be developed into a larger unifying arc that will further create the world around Asheville NC’s #1 up and coming Brewery - Blue Bigfoot Beer and home of 2023’s Most Eligible Small Business Owner Bachelor of the Year. This crazy ride of a Rom Com is every bit as good as the title. It consists not just of a pair of Enemies to Lovers done with flair, but one big loving out of this world extended family of brothers, sisters, neighbors, and co-workers, as well as a carved Bigfoot statue named Larry that brings good luck when you rub his head, an adorable pet skunk named Mango who seems to be part of a matchmaking plan with Cash’s mom, and a pet salon filled with adorable cuddly fur babies. The type of humor you will find is definitely showcased in this title and if you love surly heroes with a heart of gold who take on the ‘big brother role’ you have Cash. If you want to see a strong woman discover her own power and strike out to make it on her own - and get the man she would trust fall for, then Hollis will have you rooting for her. This was a refreshing story because it not only offered all of this, but also developed a wonderfully well rounded family who supports each other and has drawn themselves together despite loss. Rich and deep, loud and loving, this vivacious family will have you wanting to move down to North Carolina and see if you can grab some luck by rubbing Larry’s head.
This was the first book that I have read by Sylvie Stewart and I will be watching for the rest of this series and ordering Book 2 of Love on Tap - Smooth Hoperator to see where Carter’s story goes.

DNF. Lying about sexual assault isn’t funny
Ouch. This one missed the mark for me and I called it quits about 20% in.
First off, the humor wasn’t quite hitting right. These two got off on the wrong foot and a little war started between them. There were some one liners and things that were supposed to be funny, but frankly didn’t feel funny to me. Honestly the guy is a jerk. I wasn’t getting ANY chemistry between them, so for them to suddenly lock lips and make out felt totally forced.
The clincher is when her teenage sister, a high school junior, accuses his 21 year old brother of sexually assaulting her because he rejected her. Naturally she’s a spoiled socialite who has never been told no in her life. So Daddy dearest takes it upon himself to destroy the family business as a result. When Hollis tries to approach the dad to get him to stop, he dismisses her and says when she has kids she’ll understand how a parent will do anything to protect them. No. Ruining a family and their livelihood over a lying spoiled brat is not funny and it’s not ok. I was willing to push past the less than funny banter, but I won’t compromise on laughing over someone being falsely accused of something so horrible.
Ouch. This one missed the mark for me and I called it quits about 20% in.

Holy buckets! I always love to read rom-coms, but I love spicy rom-coms with snark even more. Take Hollis and Cash for instance. Their so-called dislike for each other, heightened by their creative and entertaining pranks against one another, is nothing more than foreplay. They are destined for love, but will their secrets tear them apart?
Cash is grumpy, gorgeous, and loves his family to a fault. When his father died, he took over as provider and protector for his family and the family brewery. He has no time for games and snarky dog groomers who push all his buttons especially after his temper gets his business in trouble. Finding ways to pay for upgrades after the health inspector dropped a bomb is going to be next to impossible until an unexpected offer from his next-door nemesis.
Hollis is proud of her dog grooming business despite who her family is. She is independent, dedicated, and has a good heart. So when she finds out her sister and stepdad may have something to do with Cash's business problems, her guilt spurs her to help him raise the money to save his business. As the cease-fire brings them closer, Hollis worries about telling Cash her role in the whole health inspector thing because she's lost her heart and she doesn't want to lose him.
Ms. Stewart is a master at writing hostility and sexual chemistry. From the very beginning, I was chuckling at Hollis's and Cash's sarcastic and hilarious quips. And their chemistry is explosive...that first time together is H O T!!!!! I love that Hollis and Cash are so much alike in that they put family and friends first. Cash comes across as grumpy all of the time, but he has a lot on his plate. He's really a great guy who loves his family and underneath all of the gruffness, he's so tender and thoughtful. When he takes care of Hollis after her drunken bender, I fell so hard for him. Not to mention that sexy, seductive stalking thing he does with her. Yum! Hollis has worked so hard for her business and my heart ached for her when her family looked down on all she achieved. I was proud to see her finally stand up to her family and see them come around. Hollis's grand gesture to Cash is a scene stealer.
Cash's family dynamic is funny and precious as the sarcasm and love flow freely. In addition, Hollis's relationship with her mom and friends is endearing.
I am delighted to recommend this enemies-to-lovers rom-com that has so much heart, hilarity, and a few twists that hopefully Carter's story will address. I can't wait to read more by this author.

Ale's Fair in Love and War is the first book in the Love on Tap rom-com series by Sylvie Stewart. There is a prequel novella to this series, Full-On Clinger, but it is not necessary to have read it book in order to enjoy this book. While the couple in the novella are interconnected to the story, they are not prominent characters and nothing crucial to this book takes place.
Ale's Fair is filled with so much humor and tensions between Cash and Hollis. Cash Brooks is just your average blue collar bar owner in a small town. His take charge and keep you safe and happy persona is one that very few actually get to see, to most people he's just a flirty easy going guy- there's just one person that gets under his skin like no other. The owner of the pet spa next door- Hollis. These two have been engaged in an epic prank battle since she moved in next door- pranks that range from hilarious to shocking but never malicious. That is until Cash's brother Miller finds himself wound up in Hollis' little sister, Hayden, and her father's wrath right at the same time that Cash's bar and his family's livelihood finds itself in jeopardy. With no other options, Cash finds himself accepting help and spending time with Hollis as her guilty conscience pushes her to fix the predicament she's scared to have a hand in.
I really enjoyed this story. The banter and pranks between Cash and Hollis were entertaining while adding fuel to the tensions that so clearly were brewing between them. I loved the way that as their walls lowered, they both realized just how similar they are to each other and that all their bickering set the stage for some excitingly intense sexy times. I adore the Brooks family- their closeness despite the heartbreak they endured made my heart happy, the fun jabs at each other made me smile all while seeing that they are there for each other no matter what- you know, as long as they know there's a problem to be dealt with.
Sylvie crafted this story with a lot of twists. Just when you think you know where the story is going, she throws in a plot twist so that all you think you know isn't quite right. But it all more or less comes together in the end. I think the part of the story that isn't quite resolved was left open to be explored in Carter's book- because he is hiding something.
So now I wait for more Love on Tap and the Brookses- I can't wait to find out what is going on with Carter and what kind of woman Sylvie is going to craft to tame Miller or the man that will handle the sass of their baby sister!

This novel was sweet! I loved the rivalry between the business neighbors. Ale’s Fair in Love and War is an enemies to lovers' romance. The author sucks you in with a fun playful game of pranks and animosity by the main characters. I’ve read enemies to lovers romances before I feel this one was one of the more playful happy ones.
Cash and Hollis have a love/hate relationship. Constantly playing pranks on one another, Hollis goes as far as sending a glitter bomb Cash’s way. But when the Health Inspector makes an unexpected visit to Cash’s brewery, he thinks it’s another one of Hollis’s games and doesn’t take it seriously. Unfortunately it’s very much serious and he has 3-4 weeks to make about 25k worth of upgrades or his brewery will be shut down.
Hollis steps in and offers to help, thinking her stepfather is behind it. Cash may have been resistant at first but was glad for the help. In turn they realized they weren’t that different.
Do they succeed in raising the money needed for the upgrades?
What about their budding chemistry?
This book makes you smile, makes you frown, it also makes you laugh if you appreciate the author’s humor. But one thing it does is genuinely bring a smile to one's face. I look forward into digging into book 2 as well as other books by this author.

What a fun enemies to lovers story, this definitely had some crazy banter and pranks. Hollis and Cash were neighboring business owners and they had a real rivalry between them. Neither really knew why it started but neither felt the need to stop the antics until Cash’s business was at stake and Hollis was afraid her family may be behind the reason why. Over the course of their cease fire they actually start to see that maybe the crazy pranks were over the top even though neither wanted to admit when they are wrong or maybe that they weren’t right, lol. One thing they couldn’t deny was their attraction to each other. Holy cow these two were HOT!
I loved how even when faced with the truth in what actually happened neither could come out and admit they were wrong so they each did a little something for the other to show that they saw them and they loved them, even when they couldn’t come right out and say it. Now I can’t wait for Carter’s story!

This was a great feel-good read. Sylvie did an amazing job developing the characters and the storyline.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything about this story! I don’t even know where to start to tell you all the amazing things about this book! The story is wonderfully done. It is filled with cuteness and adorable comments, gestures as well as laugh out loud moments. The characters are incredible. Each one is built to make the reader fall in love with them..no matter which one they are. I fell for the whole family and could hardly take my eyes from the pages. It has antics between the two main characters which I enjoyed but one of my favorite things is the lyrics when they sing. I just shook my head at them and chuckled to myself.
Ms Sylvie has knocked this one out of the park in my opinion. I will be doing some backlog reading on a few couples that show up in here while I await the next in the series.
Kudos to another families adventures that has become a new favorite for me.

I wish I could do this review justice, because I loved this book so much and can't wait for the rest of this series! Alas, I am not a writer, and real life is intruding on my reading time, but I'll give it a try.
Cash and Hollis start off on the wrong foot when Hollis's pet grooming business moves in next door to Cash's bar/brewery. From there a prank war ensues. While Cash and Hollis got on each other's nerves (purposely), there was always an attraction on both sides so the shift to something more was believable.
Highlights of the aspects I really enjoyed about their story:
--Inevitably there are secrets being kept by both Cash and Hollis from the other, but I didn't spend the entire book screaming "just say it already!" What they kept to themselves was perfectly reasonable for people just starting a relationship. The issues they were struggling with couldn't be solved by simply telling the other. Both had to learn how to share their problems after years of dealing on their own.
--I liked all of the characters. Even when Cash and Hollis are being mean to each other, there nothing that made me think either was truly a jerk. I was rooting for both throughout. Even Miller, Hadley, and Hollis's parents, who were the source of many problems, they never dug themselves so deep that I would feel they need a personality transplant in order for me to read their book if they ever get a turn in the hotseat. The bits and pieces that are leading into Carter's book had me intrigued and I can't wait to see what happens.

--Finally, my favorite thing is the resolution. A part of the book that can so easily be done wrong, but Sylvie knocked it out of the park. When all the secrets are out nobody is unreasonably angry, but also nobody is too easily forgiving. Not just between Cash and Hollis, but with their family members too. Just the right amount of groveling and everyone acknowledges their own shortcomings. I finished the book feeling like everything was resolved, which is what makes a book satisfying for me.
Bottom line, you should absolutely read this book.

Ale's Fair in Love and War is a freshly unique, sexy, humorous and romantic story that is must read! Cash and Hollis are both strong characters and that made for a well balanced couple. The attractions was strong and their chemistry generated lots of sparks. The storyline was engaging and fun and offers a solid amount of humor, drama and emotional turmoil as this couples relationship evolves into more than they ever imagined.

I love when I get to read a book that once I’m done my soul does a happy dance for a while. This book was everything I didn’t even know I was looking for. This author in my opinion brought everything needed for an amazing story. The storyline was fast paced, fun and I laughed so much. The characters are the kind that you want them as real life every day friends. The banter between them will keep you entertained for hours. I can’t wait for more in this series. Five of the biggest stars I can give and highly recommended!

Ale’s Fair in Love and War is an entertaining read. The main characters, Hollis and Cash. Hollis owns a pet grooming company and Cash a brewery. To say they do not get along is an understatement. The two play pranks on each other constantly, until one prank goes too far.
Hollis and Cash will have to work together to solve their predicament.
This story was fun to read from beginning to end, and the banter between the two characters had me laughing though out the book.

Serious snark started this story, & then WHAM! that outa nowhere slam of a kiss started the steam sizzling through the rest of the book. Really great steam- which led to a very attractive & sexy male sweetness belying all that sass on the surface. As in any first book of a series, much of the real estate is taking up establishing place and characters. Sylvie did a great job of pulling the reader into the Asheville microbrewery scene, and the characters / families that will surely carry into the rest of the series.
Having read all of Sylvie‘s books to date, I really enjoyed this one! I believe a good book leaves you with at least one scene that stays in your memory throughout time. As I’ve spent many wee hours of the night reading Cash & Hollis’ story, I don’t know yet which wonderful memory will surface in the future. There were a lot of twists and turns in this book that I did not see coming. I have a feeling that in book#2, Carter will answer one of those unanswered twists…. THRILLED to have a new Sylvie Stewart series to savor!

An enjoyable and engaging romantic comedy which kept me happily turning the pages. I love the main characters, Cash and Hollis who are both likeable and relatable characters with plenty of chemistry. Cash runs his family’s brewery and Hollis is a dog groomer and they are neighbours, the worst neighbours, this is an enemies to lovers romance. The pair have plenty of banter between them and they like to play pranks on one another, but when Cash thinks Hollis has gone too far, he’s willing to play dirty to save his business. This is a fun, lighthearted story with plenty of laugh out loud moments, but also full of emotion and of course romance. The couples sizzling chemistry leads to some rather steamy scenes, and I was cheering them on to a HEA.

What a great first chapter! It was hilarious and I instantly fell in love and was excited for the rest of the book! Amazing job Sylvia for grabbing my attention! If you want a story about 2 business owners, that have their stores right next to each other…who constantly butt heads and play pranks on each other? Who can’t seem to stop the physical attraction for one another even though they can’t stand each other? This is for you. I love a good hate to love romance! The characters were great and watching the 2 main characters realize they’re wrong about each other..was the best. What a great HEA! I’ll definitely be reading the next book in the series!

Such a cute book. Cash and Hollis have nothing in common except her dog grooming shop is next door to his bar. When the prank war between them gets seemingly out of hand, they form a truce to save the bar. They learn a lot during their truce, including how much chemistry is between them. Things aren’t always as they seem and when the truth comes out will they go back to their corners and come out fighting, or will they be able to start anew?

This story had me giggling so much. Hollis and Cash are just meant for each other, if they can get over the prank war. I found their chemistry “sparkling” to say the least. Like Cash had shot a “load of sparkle” all over. This is one of the best contemporary romances I’ve read this year. The humor, drama, mystery with the other brothers and the excitiement between the two businesses made for some great reading. I couldn’t put it down. These two had “it” straight off from the start. It was fun watching them work through trust issues. Exciting writing, characters that felt like friends, you have to read this one. I can’t wait for the next book.

What a feel good Rom Com! If you are in the mood for some funny, bickering, enemies to lovers story, this is a great fix! I loved that it was in no way a slow burn and there was action pretty early on. I loved the character dynamics and their families. Super enjoyable read and highly recommended. What a feel good Rom Com! If you are in the mood for some funny, bickering, enemies to lovers story, this is a great fix! I loved that it was in no way a slow burn and there was action pretty early on. I loved the character dynamics and their families. Super enjoyable read and highly recommended. This is the story of Hollis and Cash. I enjoyed the antics these two play on each other and the fun banter. This is a fun, entertaining, heartwarming story as the families gets involved. I’m looking forward to more of this series. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Sylvie where have you been all my life. This book was fun to read! I loved the enemies to lovers dynamic and the playful energy of this book. I adored Hollis and her attitude! I read this book so fast! Not that its a short novella but I just enjoyed it so much and didn’t want to put it down! A fun, enjoyable read that makes me want all the books like this from this author!
