Really appreciated Randy’s book. Got straight to the point, provided a summary at end of chapter and very practical:
My favorite aspects were:
1. Attending meetings well. Participate actively when attending meetings, don’t have other things going on e.g working on laptop. If meeting is not important enough to pay full attention reconsider attending
2. Know your stats well. Be familiar with key data and metrics you work with and use this to market yourself. Get good at excel and data analytics.
3. Consider relocation as it’s a good way to help career growth especially to places not too many people want to go.
4. Solve problems systematically. Be known as a solution provider. Respond quickly to client queries.
5. Seek mentors and build good work relationships. Learn from those above you and connect with those you work often with.
All in all good tips to enhance work performance in an intentional way.
Ornstein's GROW is required reading for every person seeking to move up the corporate chain in both large and small businesses. His own experiences, learned from academic training and personal experience in the corporate world, are revealed in this well written guide to successful promotion. The book is very instructive in terms of how to go "up the ladder" through positive interaction with peers, using creativity to overcome obstacles, and dealing with challenges that could block growth. As a former administrator in a large school system, I wish I had this book in my hands years ago. Highly recommended. S.N. Bronstein
