Flushed with the signing bonus to end all signing bonuses, Julie has one more recruit in mind.
Herself.
Despite Lillie’s bequeathment giving her options she had never imagined she’d have, Julie knows it’s time to move on.
The assassination attempts on the heirs keep coming, and completing her military training puts Julie in the position to do more to protect the people she cares about.
Learning to fight and shoot is only one aspect of Julie’s education. Her connection to the Lords of the Deep grows as she begins her mentoring with the Augury.
How can one (not so) little egg inspire a connection spanning realms?
Julie’s bond with the unborn dragon could be the key to discovering her true identity.
It’s the only link she has. Julie’s efforts to discover who she is keep coming up empty…until an assignment to protect the Aether Princess sheds some light on the mystery.
Could a figure from legend give Julie the lead she needs to unravel the past that was hidden from her for her own protection?
A long time ago I was born in Los Angeles. That's where I spent many of my formative years. After I became an adult, I moved around for a bit before ending up in a small town in Oregon, very similar to Bailey's hometown. Greenhearth is fake, if you haven't already Googled that, but it's like many small towns with less than 1,000 people.
My pets... I love animals, especially my two even if they do create havoc in my daily life. I have a cat, named Snowstorm, Storm for short. Then I have a rescue, Josephine. She's a Labradoodle - I think. It's hard to say but it's the best I can come up with.
What I'm working on... I'm already working on the next book in the series - was working on it before Bad Attitude came back from editing. And now that it has released, need to stay on track with A Bit Aggressive.

With Julie off to boot camp, I wasn’t sure what we’d get. However, this was a fun, fast paced story that seems to be bridging a shift from Julie the Recruiter to Meadows, the soldier. We don’t see any of Taylor’s solo recruiting as this is focused on Julie’s new reality. Love the Sphynxs, and the side trial Julie, Taylor, Kaplan and Isla find themselves on. Was having a great time reading this that I didn’t even realise I’d finished the book until I was rudely interrupted by the Authors Note. Just wish Lillie was still here for this new adventure.
This series has completely hooked me. The characters feel like friends, and the story is delightful. Julie's journey into the magical world is compelling. I am really enjoying the slow revelation of her destiny.
In 'Recruited', after Julie and Taylor declare their changed relationship to the OPMA Authorities, Julie has to move to another section of the Army so, when she chooses to become a Soldier, she has to start getting ready for Boot Camp.
Her decision to go from Recruiter, to Soldier, is accepted by everyone important to her, so she is ready to do what she needs to, to serve the Eternity Throne.
But, although things outside, in Avalon, are still roiling, with whispers of War, when one of the three Sphinx cats, Horusiris, goes missing, while accompanying one of the heirs, as he takes his test of suitability to be a King if his People, Julie, Taylor, Kaplan, and Ilsa, Taylor's eldest sister, and heir to the Aether Throne, go to try and rescue Horusiris - what they find, though, is something totally unexpected, and Julie is determined to go ahead, in her path to be a Soldier of the Eternity Throne.
I very much enjoyed this book, and, as usual, wherever trouble crops up, there's Julie - but I loved that, even though she's having big problems trying to find out just who she really is, she's very determined to do her best, and pass her Soldier Training.
I thoroughly enjoyed the relationships she's building, too, both with Taylor, and Ilsa, and all of the people that she'll be serving with - and they are a really wonderful mix of species, with their own unique characters.
I would really love to go on and start immediately on Book 6: 'Soldier' but, as is usual with me, I've just read most of the night through, again, so I'll do the right thing, and settle down to sleep as much as I can.
Once I'm awake again, I'll make a start on this next piece of Julie's story and, once I finish it, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it!
Lillie Griswell was a remarkable woman, and Julie is trying to cope with her absence, while taking her last words to heart. When none of Lillie’s family attends her funeral or internment, Julie isn’t sure what will happen to the animals, the house or Genevieve. So, she cares for them all, and contemplates her inner hellion.
When she and Taylor rescued Ilsa and Malcolm, they also found a dragon egg - as one of several stolen heirs. The egg is black and silver, and Julie wants to return it to the dragons. She can sense the small life inside.
And the life inside tells the dragons something about Julie; that she is Lunar fae (!) and she has bonded with the dragonet. The dragons felt it die … and revive! So they need to establish co-parenting responsibilities.
Already struggling with not being human, Julie is shocked to learn she is fae. So is Taylor, who is also hurt that she hadn’t shared her dilemma, and their friendship gets rocky for a while. But, being a storm and embracing her inner hellion, means Julie has stopped hiding from herself.
And so, she offers her most unique recruitment, herself, and joins the military branch of the PMA.
I received this AUDIOBOOK for free. My opinions are my own.
This was my favorite so far. I enjoyed it the most of all of them; and really appreciated the expansion of some of the relationships (both romances & friendships). Game night was great, and I wish we had gotten more details.
Not that the things that have been bothering me all along are gone. This is still skirting the edge of how much language/vulgarity I can take (I prefer none). And I still want to scream every time her mother opens her mouth. Add to that the fact that the tendency towards Mary Sueism has blossomed full on into her being behind almost every good idea and successful foray. There are so many characters by now that I wish some of them were able to shine more.
Narration: Seemed slower than usual; I cranked it up beyond my usual 1.25 / Otherwise continues to be well done.
Notes: It did feel like two shorter books in one, since there is a point that feels like a good stopping place before the next phase begins. / Also, the next one is not yet scheduled for an audio edition, so there may be a bit of a gap in that format's availability.
Julie has switched over to the military side of the PMA and left recruiting behind. She has inherited everything from Lillie, her relationship with Taylor is advancing and she has some very good friends. She now knows that she is a Lunar Elf but why her powers are locked down, and why she was hidden is still unknown. Some information is to her by the dragons on her monthly visit to bond with the egg and some more comes out when she is on a task with Ilsa. This book covers her military training, problems she has in it and adds to the mystery of her life while the danger to the paranormal world grows. This book has some action both in training and in some jobs she ends up doing. Trouble definitely follows Julie. There is also the growing mystery of her background, some suspense, and humour. Hat gets better and better. This is one of those books I find hard to review without spoilers but it is a quick, easy, enjoyable read.
This series is great . The author keeps you excited for the next page and the next book. One other reason is she doesn't repeat how the things about the heroine over and over she starts each book a run down about her which is good because some people start the story in other parts of the books so they have a back ground to understand. Some stories that I've read have a habit to repeat the same things and after a while I get the feeling that they are running out of things to fill the book. Renee Jagger doesn't do that it is very refreshing. She will keep you very happy and can't wait too turn the page.
Now that Julie has decided to fight, instead of recruit, she is going to basic training. Of course there are still some elves that are trying to throw the kingdom into disarray and are hellbent on stopping a good elf from taking over the throne. Julie and her friends will be very busy trying to find out who is behind it all and still manage to pass basic. Each book in the series has changes and adventures for Julie and her friends and I cannot wait to read the next book.
Fascinating characters! Loving the banter between Julie and Taylor. The descriptions are lively with just enough detail to take you right into the scene. The wisdom that Lillie spoke rings thru the story. On a deeper note....the underlying message is: many many different folks, different cultures, languages, beliefs....all this could foment chaos, fear and war. But learning to work together, temper flares of feelings can work. Ohhhhh yrs, and MORE pleaze.
The series has been good so far but for some reason I'm sick of Julie. Perhaps it's because she's too good or maybe because she always seems to have the answers or maybe I'm just really not enjoying the slow build up to whatever big thing is going to happen in the series.
I've got no more reading energy to give this series. I'm also not curious enough to learn what all Julie has going on with her to be teased out in future books. I'll miss knowing about the dragon egg but it still isn't enough to hold my interest.
Although this is pretty much a YA story (which I don't usually read) this was so engrossing. Julie makes good decisions and is so responsible you tend to forget that she is still a teenager. I was hoping she would get her answers in this book only to realize that the series is 16 books, so we have a while to wait for all the answers to who she is! All in all its worth the wait!
I took a break before continuing Julie's story. I hit romance, sci-fi with tech, some mysteries, and ghostly stuff before going back into myth and magic sci-fi with Julie, Taylor and new military roomies. This story is so easy to follow since the characters stay true to themselves and Julie continues to jump into the middle of each new dynamic that is uncovered. I enjoyed the boot camp and even the sad events around Lily. A great sequel.
OHMYGOODNESS! I don't read magic/fantasy. I stumbled on this series two days ago and was immersed enough after book one that I tried book two (in spite of the ridiculous cliffhanger, not because of it). And I have just kept plowing through them!!!
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone. There is minor language, moderate violence and no intimate scenes.
This book is a bridge taking Julie from her old life to her new one. She has new goals, and has trained to begin a new life in the OPMA in a new department. She ends up exactly where she needs to be over and over again and her destiny is building brick by brick with tantalizing hints along the way. You can almost see that destiny, it is the journey that pulls me along now.
It always sort of puts me in awe of authors who can keep spinning stories one after another that get you so engrossed with the characters that you are cheering their successes and gritting your when they are in danger. This is my new favorite author because she does all that and I’m thoroughly enjoying my vacation from reality. 👍👍👍💜
Congratulations to Renee Jagger and Michael Anderle for this intriguing series. It’s extremely hard to find such interesting and exciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in their stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
There were scenes in this book that just got me. They kind of snuck up on me and hit hard because before I knew it, I would be bawling my eyes out during heartfelt scenes. Looking forward to having my emotions be entangled even more of this enthralling series in the next book.
Silo, Perhaps one of the best series is on and I’m glued to this series. Love a good boot camp book/story. Although this was in the book it was ok. A little less than I was hoping. I could have had a whole book about Julie’s time in Boot Camp. Still it was a great book!! Onward to book 6
A career change is sometimes needed and the author takes us on an ever evolving ride as we wonder thru the changes. It's easy to get wrapped up in these characters, their developing friendships stand out as real as our own. The threats and challenges seem more real because of our closeness to these characters.
Taylor and Julie are now dating but taking it slow. They aren't seeing each other because she is military and Taylor is a hash been prompted to in recruiting.
Reading them one after another. Good characters and terrific storyline. Can't wait til I get to each book and read nonstop til the end. Well worth your time to get involved with a new series. Great authors. Don't pass this up.
I am loving this writers style and the flow of the characters and action is amazing. I am sure that the next one is going to be awesome and action packed. I love the depth of characters and action each book has.
More interesting times for Julie. Also, there are a few minor revelations regarding her mysterious background. There are some romantic changes regarding Taylor, which brought a smile to my face.
A very enjoyable story, thought out well and truly brings you into the magical tale. This book brings the characters to life and ensures good feelings while reading.
