Z Thornbrook and her cousins are like any other Oriceran pixie on Earth. Mischief is their middle name, and for the last hundred and fifty years, that's been their game.
But what happens when a gang of rogue pixies takes the troublemaking just a little too far?
They get noticed. By the U.S. Army. And playtime is over.
Now that they’ve been caught, it’s time for Z, her cousins, and the entire pixie gang to face the music, and they only have two choices. Sign their lives away to enter an experimental new program for magical Army soldiers - or accept a one-way ticket back to Oriceran for good.
For any other pixie, this would be a no-brainer. They don't back down, and they definitely don't take orders from anyone, even other pixies. But for Z and her eccentric cousins, returning to their home planet is a fate worse than death.
It's time to lace up their boots and stand at attention—or not.
Because the Thornbrook pixies are heading off to magical Bootcamp run by humans, and the Army had no idea what they were getting themselves into.
Z, Domino, and Echo must find the acceptable middle ground between being who they are, in all their chaotic pixie glory, and following the terms of their magically binding contract.
But training three Army pixies is no joke—if it's even possible at all.
Can Z and her cousins learn to rein in the chaos as new magical Army recruits, or will they take it too far and be shipped off to Oriceran, where an even darker menace awaits?

Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
The idea of pixies in the army was the most realistic part of this book. Plot was nearly nonexistent, characters are even less developed than a video game, lousy pacing, a clear hatred of military and lack of understanding about it, and two supposedly professional writers that still manage basic grammar errors.
That ignores the wokist garbage anderle compulsively adds to stories for no reason.
Giving yourself a lobotomy with a sledgehammer is less painful that the hours spent on this trash.
I enjoyed reading this book, with the caveat that I'm hoping for MUCH more detailing in the rest of this series.
The Thornbrook Pixies, known as the Triplets by their other Pixie friends, are caught after yet another heist, here on Earth. They are all given the choice of returning to Oriceran, or joining the US Army, to form a new Magical Unit.
Z, and her cousins Domino, and Echo, choose to stay and join up.
There's something in their pasts that seems to be making them avoid going back to their home Planet, and I'm very much hoping that book two: 'Rebel Squad', will have more information about this.
Being Pixies, the trio immediately get into trouble, with their new Boss, Major Winters, plus the Special Squad, that Winters retained to help capture and train the Pixies.
I'm giving this book 4 stars, purely because I believe that the rest of the series will fill in the many gaps in this first book of the series.
It's highly unusual, for me to not give 5 stars to any book produced by Martha Carr, and Michael Anderle but, although I did enjoy reading it, this book was very light: on character development, and on plotline.
I confess that I've ALWAYS enjoyed Michael's books involving the Special Forces, but I feel that, because the main characters in this book are Pixies, renowned throughout the centuries of fairy stories, of being rather flighty, tricksy, and bothersome if aroused to ire, that it didn't have the gravitas I've come to expect from the Carr/Anderle pairing.
There's not much more to say about this book, really, at least, without giving away the complete storyline but, as I said, I'm hoping that book two of this series; 'Rebel Squad', will give a much broader picture all round.
That said, I'm going to start on book two, before catching up on some sleep then, once I've finished reading it, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of this next book of the series!
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I completely change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring down a lot. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
First time read the author's work?: No
Will you be reading more?: Yes
Would you recommend?: Yes
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
Wait! That’s the wrong mischievous female. Because, believe me, the army doesn’t need Mary Poppins running around raising havoc. These pixies are more than enough to accomplish that.
I have to admit, this is my 2nd read through this series, now, and I failed to write a review the first five around for this book, at least. In my defense, I started the series when it was nearly complete and already owned 5 of the books so I was in a hurry to get to the next one because, well, it was just that darn good! Even knowing what was coming next on THIS read through, I found I enjoyed it just as much this time around. So I think that those two facts should be sufficient to convince you that you really do want to read this. So, GO! And ENJOY!
This was not what I expected. Instead of some magic laced military action, I got bored pixies behaving like entitled children in a military basement.
And the military part? That just happened in one or two sentences.
I think this was supposed to be a character driven book, but unfortunately none of the characters were compelling. And 3rd person point of view made it even harder, to relate to them. I love a good 3rd person book because then you can have a look at different threads of the story and have them come together at the end. That doesn't happen here.
Since I'm surrounded by entitled children in real life, I don't need to read any more about them, but for someone who is into "mischief" maybe this can be an entertaining series.
What was the major thinking? Pixies' memories are long, and their revenge diabolical. This is a well written story from an author I can expect nothing less of. Every Martha Carr story I have read has earned it's five stars and more. The main characters are pixies in this one and although a bit blood thirsty, all are unusually intelligent. The plot is easily followed, and the premise is turning a band of thieving pixies into Army recruits. For the most part, the training was a success, but the commanding officer still pays dearly for it in mayhem and a sharp division between human recruits and the pixies. The Major finds a way to force the pixies to comply, but he pays for it in the end, dearly.
Fun start to a new series. Z and her cousins Domino and Echo get caught after robbing a bank with their Pixie friends. From there they get forced into a new military unit and the fun ensues. I always like stories by Martha Carr and Michael Anderle and this one was fun with great characters and a good storyline. I am looking forward to more escapades by the Pixie trio.
This story had so much promise from a great concept but failed to deliver. I was waiting for the story to take off, like a pixie on a mission, but I only got a lot of smart ass dialog. I took exception to the portrayal of all military people being stupid as well.
I believe that an eleven year old girl with an attitude problem might enjoy this book but no one else.
I enjoyed the book. Read it in one sitting, yes I’m a bibliophile. Was a good book throughout. But I must say I was expecting… more? from the ending. I can’t explain any better without spoilers. Hopefully the next book in the series will make up for the lacklustre ending. Either way I definitely recommend this book.
It was a good book. Not what I expected but it would be hard to say what I expected. Not sure I know what I expected. Interesting, and sometimes annoying and/or frustrating but considering the circumstances... It at least made me want to see what kind of trouble the pixies get into next.
I read so.e of the reviews on this storyline and really thought it could be a cute read, but I could get past the first third of it. Too much being thrown together with what appears to be any thought out plan. Almost as if the author throws enough out there, something might stick. Too chaotic for me.
Chaos, a pixie life.!! Wow, well Martha you made chaos thrilling,. Made my head hurt at first with the chapters speed or was that the pace I was reading at. ? Who knows.? I just had to read until I was living and loving the pixies.. Must have read welldone. Will be reading the following books in the series.
Wow, another fun and excellent series from these authors!!!!!
Congratulations to Martha Carr and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such intexresting and exciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
What's next? The intro to the series covered most stuff so far, not sure why they have to be so ridiculously annoying, sometimes funny but difficult to totally relate to yet.
I must admit I enjoyed this story even more than I thought I would. I look forward to more of the Pixie's back story in future books. This was just the setup to exceptional stories.
This one was definitely different. Read it in one sitting, because I couldn’t put it down. Looking forward to learning more about the ‘Terrible Trio’ and what they can do.
It is a very funny , sweet story. Classic story of migrants trying to fit in find their way in a land that doesn’t want them but wants to use them. Family is important. Reading the rest of the series
How to take mischievous picked and turn them into soldiers? The mission will keep you laughing! Z and her cousins prove more than the military can handle! Looks to be a cute series!
Thankfully this is a short book. It really is just the first third of a book. It's missing the rest of the plot, and the climax. Thankfully there are other books but plan on reading them all to get a whole story.
All great fun Enjoyed the first book in this series The characters and their attributes and attitudes are a lot of fun These pixies did things I did not know pixies could do Makes for a great story Thank you
I went to boot camp with women who were given the choice of jail or the Navy. Still, this was an odd type of training. Some typos. I expect the characters to get fleshed out in the next book.
Too funny. Pixies in The USArmy. But can you imagine the havoc that they can make The Major was at his wits end until he found the cure. Lots of fighting, laughing and mischief making. Enjoyed it.
It's a fun read - over the top, some funny puns, expect a complete absence of seriousness . The series starts slow, but the characters are amusing enough to keep going. You'll keep reading just to find out what ridiculousness ensues from their facetious compliance.
I thought that this was a good story. I am not sure why Z and her cousins joined the Army instead of returning to Oriceran but I could understand adjusting to the Army life would be difficult.
Magic, mischief and mayhem by pixies on humans. Laughed out loud a few times. Lively and engaging characters and story lines. Well worth reading, pardon me while I get busy on #2
