My trip to Italy may not have been awesome (train pervert and stolen wallet don't make for a great time), but at least I got books! This is an interesting one that both follows a lot of basic BL tropes and attempts to refute them. Hands-down, the best part is when Eungyeum sets boundaries, rightly pointing out that his rejected-confession-turned-boss is treating him very, very badly and therefore doesn't deserve him. It presumably won't last, but it should serve as an impetus for Jihyeok to really think about his actions and change.
Know your place, fool 🤣
This was not the cutesy dynamic I was expecting from the cover but something a little darker, as the main character rejected the love interest once in high school, as he was short and nerdy. However, the love interest went through a growth spurt and is now a high-achieving, imposing presence who the main character finds extremely attractive. Now, the love interest is taking that rejection out on the main character, leading to some...uncomfortable dynamics for a romance. The main thing that bothered me was that the steamy scene happened while the main character was very drunk and the love interest was not. I've come to sort of expect this, unfortunately, from manga and manhwa, but that doesn't make it okay. They sort of try to brush it off by the main character saying that he liked it but it's not a good dynamic. I'm glad I didn't buy the sequel before reading this one because I'm unsure if I'll continue.
I always find office romances hysterical. And with the added trope of one of them being the geeky kid who was rejected by the other one makes this even better. I can see this story being full of miscommunication and mutual pining. This is gonna be good!
This review is going to be for the whole series since I have no clue where each volume ends. My rating is maybe closer to a 3.5? maybe a 3.25? Is that extra? I enjoyed it, but like structurally it was not that good.
Eunkyum has been at his company for a year now. He's friendly, bright, and has a great relationship with his colleagues. However his love life's not going so great. He tends to fall for looks and ends up with loser types who take advantage of him. That doesn't stop him from immediately falling for his new boss who's just his type, but then that boss starts to make his work life hell. Is he just a demon boss or is there something more at play here?
Okay so this was really cute and I liked their relationship. Although I have some issues with a few things. First is Jihyuk flip flops so suddenly. He goes from being kind of cold and not having feelings for Eunkyum to being super affectionate and kind of possessive. I mean I liked the way their relationship turned out, but it seemed out of no where. I'm not sure where exactly the change happened. Then the whole thing with the ex was super confusing. Like it would've made more sense if the ex that attacked Eunkyum in the later half of the series was a different ex than the one in the beginning. The personality change and his motivations for doing things didn't really match up. Like maybe if he had been dumped by his wife because Eunkyum had outted him and then his life was ruined that would've made more sense. But he seemed like he was obsessed with Eunkyum for out of nowhere. It didn't really work for me.
I still enjoyed the story though despite the messiness. I think the couple was pretty sweet and their cute intimate moments were really sweet. It was a good story to randomly binge when I was too restless to fall asleep.
Lee Eunkyum is an office worker who sees a handsome man on the train - he never gets a chance to find out his name and number. However, he seems him again as his new manager at work, Han Jihyuk. The only issue being is Jihyuk only ever criticizes Eunkyum’s work, and so they become closer to enemies than they ever do friends.
I liked Eunkyum. I felt bad for him with his struggles in relationships and being unable to find someone who treated him right, and clearly he was somewhat of a pushover because he wanted to be loved by someone. Especially when his boyfriend had a whole other family? That was awful!
Jihyuk was a character I struggled to like at first. While he’s kind to everyone else, the way he was essentially making Eunkyum’s work life very difficult was hard for me to get past. While I definitely understood his little point of revenge in the beginning, I felt a little bad for Eunkyum. High schoolers say stupid things, and coupling what was said with rejection does make it ache a little. I know Jihyuk generally gets a kick out of riling Eunkyum up, so that was fair.
Once they get there, their relationship dynamic is interesting. I felt a little embarrassment at first for Eunkyum because he was so eager to have Jihyuk like him. I was surprised by their little shared past - though it added a subtle twist to their romance! The transition of enemies to lovers did have some pain to it, but once they started on the trajectory to romance I was hooked. Especially because Jihyuk was on the devoted pursuit for Eunkyum’s confession. They have some bumps in the road, but they do work it out.
The art wasn’t really my favorite. Other than that though, I actually really loved this read! It was pretty fluffy and these two are so cute together. I definitely recommend this one!
The side story is a historical fantasy with a bunny shifter Eunkyum and tiger shifter Jihyuk. So cute!
The story was a little bit boring for me and they fell for each too fast, the art style isn't bad. But the best thing in this manhwa are Eungyeom's younger siblings, the twins OMG, they're so cute Enha and Enho. They look so much alike. Also they're is an animation about this manhwa and it's good what!!!!! 🤭
I've read this before - when it was a WEBTOON. I don't think I finished the series online.. it's been a while and I'm not sure.
I really like this workplace romance, even the miscommunication is done well. Really good reversal of roles and mirrored emotions when comparing the beginning of the volume to the ending. Very balanced. A bit of toxicity can be healing.
I love workplace romance, but not bully romances. This teetered on the edge of making me dislike it at times. I don’t want to hate the MMC, so I’m glad we finally got past that.
From the very beginning it GRIPPED my attention. GAY PEOPLE STAND THE FUCK UP! This is SUCH a beautiful romance wow omfg I’m actually holding back a scream rn.
Was already not in love with the abusive boss scenario, and then it went and added in drunk sex that arguably counts as rape, so yeeeeeah this one is in the Nope pile.
Not the best story to read if you're feeling unhappy, unappreciated, or overworked at your job.
I was honestly really surprised at the storyline, since literally all I ever see of this title are the cute ears-and-tails chibis that I've been told come from the side stories. I didn't particularly like those, so I didn't bother reading until the official print license came out.
And it's just...nothing like that. I guess we'll see how I feel once it concludes and I do reach those side stories, but I don't really get the obsession with the cutesy merch when this is a pretty angsty story. Funny, plotted well, with good characters, but heartwrenching.
Visually, Lee Eunkyum looks a lot like the cheery blond leads from On Or Off or Dangerous Convenience Store, and his surface level personality is similar in some ways. He's bright, outgoing, and charismatic. But he's also incredibly funny because he has a dark streak that comes out (internally) whenever he's angry and feeling vindictive. He has a surprising amount of depth and a really strong, interesting personality.
I'm not sure what the deal is with his parents, or if that's going to be discussed more, but I wonder if losing them had an impact on his career in some way. Like his love interest, the new department chief Han Jihyuk, Eunkyum is 29 years old...but has only been in this position for a year. What was he doing prior to that? I doubt he was in school still at age 28, unless life plans got interrupted by his parents' death. (I can relate to that, too, with the way your cheerful-in-college plans can entirely go off the rails when real life things happen.)
Eunkyum has 8 year old twin siblings, who would've been born when he was in college, and who are now being raised by his grandmother, whom he visits on weekends since his office is too far of a commute. Their family life is adorable, but again raises some questions that will hopefully be answered later. Did Eunkyum have anything he really wanted to do with his life? What are his hopes/dreams/passions? Is he plodding away in this menial work position because it's the only thing he was qualified to do, or is it to help support his family? Hard to say at this point.
He also has a tendency to make incredibly bad decisions on the romantic front. He's gay, and open about it with his friends (who seem like a really good bunch), but closeted at work. Not sure if he's out to his family or not. But he picks his partners entirely based on looks, which means he doesn't vet their personalities or any other character traits that would make them good boyfriends. For instance, the guy he'd been dating for a year at the start of this volume is generally not great to him and regularly "borrows" money while lying about the reasons (it doesn't count as borrowing if you never pay it back). But Eunkyum had no idea that he was also married with a kid. Another terrible relationship in what seems like a long line of them.
Han Jihyuk, meanwhile, is highly successful, seemingly really put together in general, and much, much hotter than the high school version Eunkyum doesn't remember at all.
That's a twist I hadn't known about (I really knew next to nothing about this story, going into it), and it added a lot of interesting layers. You'd think the workplace bullying was a simple revenge plot from Han Jihyuk, to pay Eunkyum back for being shallow and insensitive and rejecting a guy simply because he was short and nerdy. But even Eunkyum doesn't think he's actually mad about that pretty minor incident from more than a decade earlier. It's mostly that Han Jihyuk is enjoying messing with him, in a pigtails-pulling sort of way.
And it demonstrates exactly how toxic that kind of behavior is - because while Eunkyum responds in funny/cute ways at first, it starts to genuinely wear on him until he snaps - first with anger, then with tears. Han Jihyuk went way too far, both as a boss and as a person, and he realizes it much too late.
This volume ends on a pretty miserable note for both of them. It's difficult to predict how they'll come back from that, really, because while Han Jihyuk seems to have genuinely held his torch for Eunkyum for all these years, and has grown to care for him even more as they worked together, there's nothing that Eunkyum actually likes about Han Jihyuk. Han Jihyuk is hot. That's it. Eunkyum didn't like his personality even before things got so bad.
I expect the second volume to be more of a slow burn as they take many steps back and start to get to know each other as actual people. We'll see. I hope it goes that route.
The sleeping-together-while-drunk scene near the end of this volume wasn't great, but it did work in context and showed some interesting things about both of them. Eunkyum thinks Han Jihyuk is apologizing to him now mostly just because of that out-of-line incident. Han Jihyuk, meanwhile, seems to have been head-over-heels about finally getting to that level of intimacy with a guy he's dreamed about for years.
Their interactions the morning after managed to be both hilarious and awful, which is an odd balance that Danbi manages well. Definitely enjoyed this story and hope it'll go in directions that flesh out the characters and their relationship more. And I'd really like Eunkyum to not be absolutely miserable at work. That'd be nice.
What? Cos'è che vuoi tu dalla vita? E tu Han, cos'è che vuoi tu dalla vita?!
NON CAPISCO PERCHÉ TUTTO STO CASINO.

Are we suppose to be rooting for them to get together cause at this point in the story, I am not. At the age of 29 year old, Eunkyum has been unlucky in relationship. His most recent only calling him when he wants money and when they happen to see each other on the street, he finds out that he has a whole family! A wife and kid, but here the scum is taking money from him.
Han Jihyuk is his new boss who torments him and he doesnt understand why until their past is revealed later in the volume which was shocking to me.
How are we suppose to be rooting for them? Han Jihyuk sexual assaults Eunkyum when he is drunk and there is no apologizing that will make up for that assault and he abuse of power. I will keep reading but I don't have much hope for how this will end.
I did go home and finish this series online but I will still read the volumes at the get released. Eunkyum inner thoughts were funny especially when he was thinking of beating his boss. I just dont understand what he thought was going to happen with his harassments. Did he think Eunkyum was just going to sit there and take it forever? Did he not expect him to get fed up with the treatment. Having him work late, making him restart projects, having him write letters to other companies and then canceling the idea after Eunkyum has already started writing them. He is using his position for revenge for getting rejected. I am not saying that the way he was rejected wasn't harsh, it was, and I loved the way he revealed himself, but he should have stopped long before he did.
Okay. Let's see where this goes.

Idk, man. I’m of two minds with this first volume.
On the one hand, I’m kind of obsessed with how delusional Eunkyum is 😂 All his little daydreams are so fun and make me smile when they pop up. He’s got such an inflated sense of self that’s kind of hilarious.
On the other hand, there’s only so much I can tolerate from a top in an office romance like this 😩 Jihyuk really tested my patience in this. Part of me felt like it was great for him to get his revenge on Eunkyum, but the other part really hated how it ate away at Eunkyum’s confidence. He was truly making that man’s life hell for what? For having called him a pipsqueak in high school ONCE? Be so for real 😭 On top of that, we get their first sexual encounter being one of dubious consent. What do you mean you’re gonna have sex with Eunkyum when he’s drunk? I’M calling the police! Get his ass 😭🚨
It all just ended the volume on a very sour note for me. It somewhat helped that Eunkyum set a firm boundary at the end of this volume, but I’m sure it’s not gonna last… At least it did seem like Jihyuk was regretting his actions. Hopefully, that means there’ll be significant change from him in the next volume. A woman can only hope.
P.S. Eunkyum’s siblings are super adorable! Tbh? I’m partially tempted to keep reading mostly to see the cute kids 🥺 They all seem to have such a lovely relationship, and it makes me feel mushy inside. Love it 💖
NO LOVE ZONE is an interesting manhwa because while the story itself started a little weak and the artwork wasn't really for me at first, it grows on you.
I kind of guessed where it was going a couple of chapters before the reveal, so that made me a bit excited because it meant that the story was about to get more interesting. And while it definitely got more interesting, I loved how the MC stood up for himself and set a hard boundary.
The ending of the story really made me want the next volume. I liked seeing the love interest be told exactly where he stands with the MC. I want to know how this relationship develops now that those boundaries have been set.
I will say, however, that this had a very questionable spicy scene. The MC is very drunk and some stuff happens that made me side-eye Danbi. Consent was definitely dubious and I didn't how I felt about the whole thing. I don't know if this is a "it's a guy so why does it matter?" situation, but consent is for EVERYONE and that scene made me feel icky. And yet, I want to see how the series progresses in hopes that this is rectified in some form.
Of all the manhwas I've read this year, this was probably one that made me a bit concerned for the main character and the type of man he was going to end up with.
Finally!!! Finally!!! A BL where the character being bullied/harassed/overworked just fucking SNAPS and can't take it any more and there isn't an ~actual good reason~ he's been overworked and the character who overworked him realizes he's in the wrong!!!!! I know it's such a simple thing to be excited about but I have wanted to read this format for so long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, my delight at that aside, I am loving this so far. The characters are complex enough where I'm not 100% on either of their sides and their relationship is so messy in a way that excites me to see where it goes. Like, they both have so much growth to do, and I'm actually pretty pleased with the way this volume ended; it feels like their relationship has been completely scorched and they are now on an equal, desolate playing field, where Jihyuk can actually try to win over Eunkyum (instead of whatever the fuck he was doing before) and Eunkyum can start to see Jihyuk as more than just a pretty face.
Very excited to read more. Definitely one of the better manwha I've read recently.
Steamy office romance? Check! This tempestuous story features a self-aware protagonist and a boss who pushes him to do his best until he can’t get him off his mind.
There’s more to the story, but I don’t want to spoil you. I like the precautionary tale this story tells of seeing beyond someone’s looks and focusing on their other good traits to find a healthy relationship, and to practice kindness.
The plot and slow burn are done very well, not to mention the hilarious comedy! The spicy scene it has was pretty long. This story is one twist away from being a revenge story, I enjoyed it.
Who is this manga for This one is for fans of office romance and cosmic justice!
