AS BIG CHANGES ARE HAPPENING IN JUSTIN’S PERSONAL LIFE, his professional life is shaken when he takes on a case that keeps him guessing from one session to the next.
Jade, a beautiful young woman suffering from depression and despair, is trying to escape her past... a former life that catches up with her during every full moon. Justin’s biggest obstacle to helping her is Jade herself. The closer he gets to the root of her problems, the further away she pushes him — leaving Justin questioning both her sincerity and his own professional skills.
As with “Altered”, this novel is packed with suspense and emotion, mainly due to people from Justin’s past, including Frank Devlin, the man who has made himself the bane of the Wright family’s existence. Once again, readers are led down a road that keeps them wondering what is real, who did what, and when will Justin and his family finally find the peace they deserve?

Jaded, the second book in the series from Rob Kaufman was just as exciting and nerve wracking as the first! It’s still hard to read about the pain of parents suffering their loss, but it does not prevent me from enjoying this psychological thriller. I’m starting book 3 now!
After reading Altered, I never imagined Jaded could be even more suspenseful! And it was! What a trip! If you love suspense, this is the book for you. Kudos to you, Rob Kaufman, for not letting me put this book down until I finished it!
I absolutely loved this book, featuring Justin, a psychiatrist who had had his fair of share of trauma and loss. When his son, Michael returns after being missing for seven years, Justin and his wife struggle to cope with Michael's behaviour and silence and enlist the help of a psychologist to manage his trauma of being kidnapped. The story gets complicated by his former patient, Frank Devlin (accused of murder) who presents with multiple personalities; one of which is deadly. Justin also begins work with a new client, Jade who has her own secrets. The story culminates in a dramatic ending, as the reader is left wondering what will happen in Justin's world with his wife and son, Michael.
The story had me hooked from the very beginning and I cannot wait to read the third book in the series. Rob is such a talented and gifted writer in the psychological thriller category. So well worth the read.
I decided when I picked up “Altered” to step out of my comfort zone with my typical genre of reading and that book and “Jaded” certainly took me to a new horizon. Hopefully the author will maintain a level of unpredictability in the ending of this trilogy. Good luck with that, Rob Kaufman!
Wow can it get any weirder than it is. Poor Justin. I think it’s time to find another job. Things happened in this book that are sad, and unbelievable. Now I have to wait for book 3 😢
This is the second in this series and I have given both books 3 stars. I didn't particularly like the first book, but it finished with a cliffhanger that made me read this second book. Of course, this also ends with a cliffhanger! Can't decide if I will really continue or not. Geesh!
I haven't read an intense psychological trio, since Stieg Larsson introduced Lisbeth Salander (Millennium Series) in 2005. I remember ordering the third book from the UK, so I wouldn't have to wait for US release date. I read these books in the park with my old dog 'Torch', until midnight. There were a few 'dog people' who would check on me and send me home. What was I thinking! Rob Kaufman's books - "Altered" was read in 1 day. I pre-ordered "Jaded" the following day. I finished "Jaded" yesterday and will pre-order "Avenged" today. For those who wonder about rare Personality Disorders with severe Psychopathy challenges, these books explain the magnitude of placing these individuals in Prison vs in a Psychiatric Ward for the criminally insane. It is impossible decision for even the most experienced or knowledgeable Court or Psychiatrist. Mental illness is invisible. This author has pushed the edges of sanity. Have a DSM nearby and John Douglas on speed dial.
I felt so much emotion reading this second in the series of Justin Wright Suspense books. Just as I was in the first book, I am really invested in these characters couldn't wait to turn each page to see what happens to them.
Kaufman's writing draws the reader in without you even realizing it. It evokes feelings and that's what good writing does. It tells a story in such a way that it's almost as if you were watching a movie instead of reading a book.
Dealing with the real epidemic of mental health crises we see and hear about is fascinating to me. Unfortunately as this series has proven, much of these cases go unreported because people don't know how the stressful events of life can affect our minds.
This book stayed with the storyline of Justin and his family and how they deal with crisis after crisis. You will love these characters, well most of them. I highly recommend. The story goes at such a fast pace there's never a point to get bored. You are hooked from start to finish. I read it in one day and early morning. I hope to read more of this author in the future.
Really enjoying this new series!!! Can't put It down and just ordered the next. So relatable to me as a retired therapist. If you like psychological thrillers with enough twists and turns with well developed characters then I highly recommend. You have to keep track of the individuals because of the multiple personalities , DID, of the focal patient. Then the therapist and family dynamics add another layer of issues and family values of the psychiatrist and his attorney wife of who never sway from their dedication and support of each other. I know I'm not really saying anything really specific because it would turn into a book report.
I'm a huge fan of Kaufman's so was delighted to read the 2nd book in this trilogy! And of course, the suspense is off the charts! It begins with Justin's 10-year-old son, Michael returning home after being kidnapped. Enter Jade, a young woman who desperately needs help but isn't sure where to turn and who can be trusted with her odd secrets. How do the alters fit in? Can she trust Justin to help? This moves at break-neck speed and I couldn't read it fast enough as once you have a handle on the characters, you won't need sleep until you finish! Bravo, as this novel once again rocked my little world and I can't wait for the third installment! Thanks to Kaufman for this ARC!
Book 2 in this psychological medical thriller series does not disappoint. The author has masterfully developed the characters, diving deeper into their complexities and darker sides, making it essential to read the series in order to fully appreciate the story. While some readers may feel frustrated by the cliffhanger ending, I think it’s brilliantly executed—keeping us eager for the next installment. As a fellow author, I can confidently say you’ve nailed it, leaving readers desperate to uncover the conclusion.
What a fantastic book. Nothing is dragged out or does anything sound ridiculous as a story line. I have yet to read a Rob Kaufman book that I have not liked. Cannot wait until his next book. I am going to go back a few years and see what else he wrote. By far, my favorite reader this year and I have read over 85 books so far in 2023.
I am really enjoying this series! Rob Kaufman has done a great job at developing the characters and storyline that keeps you wanting to read an entire book in one session. I read this one within 24 hours and it did not disappoint. It’s suspenseful with a lot of twists and turns. I can’t wait to read book #3!
First of all , I love how quick and to the point the books are. It never drags on and theirs is always a surprise thrown in. Every few chapters. I’ve become invested in all of the characters and want to see most of them happy and well adjusted. Looking forward to the next book.
My favorite movie line has always been "Something evil this way comes" That's what I kept feeling after each page.. I was so wrapped up trying to think what evil would come next I was suddenly on the last page of this installment. No choice but to move forward with the next chapter and see if my brain will return to normal.
Well things are more complicated. Poor Frank's disappeared and its just nathan...poor kyle..is Michael a killer? I guess we will know soon this one keeps you guessing. Great and fast pace thriller 😄
Typically I avoid series as I prefer stand alone novels. However, after reading Altered (book 1), I'm now completely invested in this storyline. Onto book 3 in the series!
Loved this book! In book two, Justin's son Michael has returned. This is a great series so far. I would definitely recommend starting with book one. There's plenty of suspense and twists to keep you reading.
Having Micheal do his bidding from inside the nut house is a brilliant turn. What are the odds? He was the one pulling the strings all along... Anxious to see what book 3 holds... This author is great at cliffhangers
