Modelland - the FIERCE NEW NOVEL BY TYRA BANKS—IS OUT!
No one gets in without being asked. And with her untamable hair, large forehead, and gawky body, Tookie De La Crème isn’t expecting an invitation. Modelland—the exclusive, mysterious place on top of the mountain—never dares to make an appearance in her dreams.
But someone has plans for Tookie. Before she can blink her mismatched eyes, Tookie finds herself in the very place every girl in the world obsesses about. And three unlikely girls have joined her.
Only seven extraordinary young women become Intoxibellas each year. Famous. Worshipped. Magical. What happens to those who don’t make it? Well, no one really speaks of that. Some things are better left unsaid.
Thrown into a world where she doesn’t seem to belong, Tookie glimpses a future that could be hers—if she survives the beastly Catwalk Corridor and terrifying Thigh-High Boot Camp. Along the way, she learns all about friendship, courage, laughter and what it feels like to start to believe in yourself.
When you enter the fantastical world of Modelland, you'll see that Tookie was inspired by Tyra’s life as a supermodel. All those crazy and wild adventures Tookie has with her friends? Some of them were ripped straight from the headlines of Tyra’s life! Tyra knows all about beauty and fashion and fierceness, and she shares everything here in MODELLAND. It’s fun, zany, and 100 bazillion-percent Tyra.
You don’t want to miss Tyra’s amazing new novel!

Oh, Tookie, Tookie, I love you more thanIn the other carelessly written books we've read as selections for the "372 Pages We'll Never Get Back" podcast, the author's preoccupations show themselves to a near-embarrassing degree. That's absolutely the case here. I can tell you that our author has some self-image issues. That she loves whipped cream, like, a lot. And she LOVES the world of modeling, to the point that she feels the whole world must love it as much as she does. Toward the end of the book, when the power structure in Modelland goes through a sudden change, and the annual Day of Destiny is canceled, society near-collapses and there are riots all over the world. Well, we didn't have COVID-19 to use as an example in 2011, to know that society doesn't just collapse even when a disease ends the lives millions of people all over the world, and forever changes many more. "A modeling contest," regardless of how popular it might be, is insignificant in comparison. Sorry, Tyra.
Architecture and Lauro's oatmeal cookies.
Went to the FEDS 'cause my heart was failin',
The purse said, "No, Bravo, De La Créme's got your pulse sailin'."

Speaking of the shore, much love to the Pacific Ocean. Your crashing waves crashed through my few bouts of writer’s block.
Lake Como, thank you for providing me with a beautiful landscape in which to create and for inspiring the creation of Abigail Goode. As I gazed over your water, she popped into my mind. Hair? Water? Not sure what the connection is, but thanks anyway. (It didn’t hurt that George Clooney lived a few doors down.…)
Stephen King (it feels so good to even type your name, especially because people will assume we are friends!), I want to thank you for writing On Writing. Yep, I read it. Twice. I may have failed when it comes to your advice that one should not use too many adverbs and adjectives. But Modelland is so splendiferously, kaleidoscopically, out-of-this-world colorful, I couldn’t help myself! Please forgive me
Tyra invested five years in conceiving and writing Modelland, her first book of fiction. Her lifelong love of reading and storytelling is deeply embedded in every page.
