I'm going to be honest, I was lured into starting this series of study guides (instead of one of the others I have piled up here) by two things: "with English translation!" emblazoned boldly on the cover and the cute animal motif. (In addition to the monkey on the cover, five small cats quiz you at the beginning of each lesson.)

Pros
Easy to use - two pages per day for eight weeks, each week consisting of six lessons (with a review quiz on the seventh day), each lessons covering 3-4 grammar points with 5-8 review questions.
English translation - barely a pro, as I'll explain in the Cons section, but rare enough at the N1 level to be worthy of mention.

Cons
Zero explanation of the grammar points. Which, considering that this is a grammar review book, is a pretty glaring omission. The grammar point is followed by two example sentences (translated into English), which you must use to divine how the point is used. Sometimes the sentences use a negative form of the point, requiring extra mental gymnastics. There is also a little box explaining how the grammar point is used with particles, verbs, nouns, and other parts of speech. The little box is 90% in code, some of which is easy to decipher (N = noun, V = verb, etc), some of which requires flipping to the chart at the beginning of the book.

I got through week 8, day 2 and then gave up. It's been two months, I read 90% of this, I'm out taking this opportunity to relieve myself of the guilt of not finishing and move on.
