Engage your passion to be the one that makes a difference.
Whether you are a CEO, housewife, student, manager, or church leader, you have a circle of influence and the ability to shape your culture for God’s purpose--to be a change agent.
Os Hillman explains the process God uses to raise up His change agents in culture, demonstrated in biblical leaders like David, Daniel, Esther, and Moses. With details from his own experiences and profiles of modern-day change agents, Hillman shows how you too can have greater influence no matter what your age or status in life.
Our culture is shaped by the seven mountains of cultural influence: business, government, media, arts and entertainment, education, the family, and the church. Featuring a chapter on each of the seven cultural mountains, Change Agent describes where we are, what we must do to influence these strategic areas, and what success will ultimately look like.
Frankly, I found this poorly written. While I'm very intrigued with the ideas of the seven mountains and have heard this explained by others Hillman starts the book talking about how very few people have actually changed culture and then ends by encouraging me to become a change agent in one or more mountains. Seems a bit of "have your cake and eat it too" ... there were some points to reflect on certainly but I got about halfway through the discussion on change in the media mountain and couldn't find the interest to complete the book. When I went to record this note I was shocked to see that the book had received such high marks from readers. I don't see it but am glad that others enjoyed it.
We are reading this book now and finding it challenging, affirming, and practical. He brings such insight on the character development needed in preparing to make a kingdom oriented impact. I love the insights he brings without being just a soap box of venting emotions. Rather, Os shares thought provoking questions to fuel our prayer life and become involved in making a difference in our world
An encouragement with specific ideas on how to impact Neighborhoods, Networks, and Nations starting with your area of gifting. If you want to change the world, this is a great blueprint to guide you.
Many want to make a difference in their world but few are willing to pay the cost of being a change agent.
Using what he describes at the seven mountains of culture to create change in a community he outlines both the past and then need for the future to bring about that change. The seven mountains are family, government, entertainment, media, business, education and church. He does a great job of describing how segments of society have brought about sometimes massive change influencing these areas of our lives.
Writing from a Christian perspective he does a great job of describing a Biblical world view and the need to combine our faith and work in all areas of life.
The last third of the book is a bit dated but doesn't show how difficult it can be to maintain the life necessary to have the long term impact and not fall to pride or power.
Christians can change the world. One mountain at a time. This book shows you how you can be a part and it shows you that there are people out there that are already doing it. I highly recommend this book.
This was well written and creates a road map for anyone looking to change the culture that we live in. I would like to point out that the author uses Justin Bieber as a positive influence in entertainment. It may be time to amend that in a new edition and find a more positive role model.
