The Navigator Bible Studies Handbook is a classic collection of principles and methods for people who want to find out for themselves what the Scriptures say. Learn how to do question-and-answer studies, verse analysis studies, comprehensive chapter analysis studies, and topical studies. Discover the underlying principles for doing inductive Bible study, as well as some of the specific, time-tested methods of Bible study that The Navigators have used for over 60 years.
Very, very simple. This book is High School English 101: How to Outline; Do an Analysis; Write a Summary; Character Development; Theme & Conclusion; Cross Reference; Application.
It contains instructions for the ABC Bible Study Plan and the Advanced ABC Bible Study Plan. At the end it offers a NINE YEAR Bible reading plan. Genesis 1 is read in the 8th year - ! (???) At the very end are the worksheets and note taking suggestions.
The first edition came out in 1975 and I obtained a 1986 edition, so perhaps newer editions have updated samples and have eliminated the detectable women are trivial idiots undertones.
If you are looking for a solid, serious, and scholarly Bible study guide, I do not recommend this one. Or at least not the 1986 version of this one.
This would be good for anyone needing a little, easy guidance to get started. Guidance that includes some note taking and comprehension instruction. It's a cute book, I just needed something with more substance. Dr. William W, Klein's Handbook for Personal Bible Study seems to be an advanced version of Navigator's Handbook and has the same publisher, NavPress.
But here's the real truth: just go to YouTube and watch amazing Biblical scholars go to town on these verses. They know the Hebrew words and the historical context and then they cross reference to other books from both New and Old Testaments. It's amazing. Chuck Smith, Chuck Missler, and Paul from Ontario Calvary Chapel in Oregon are my favorites. Chuck Missler is uber controversial, which is why I dig him. Most any minister in the Calvary Chapel thread are going to be very Biblically centered and thorough.
