The Earliest Account of Jesus’ Life
When Jesus came claiming to be the promised Messiah, the Jewish people were expecting a powerful warrior-king who would throw off their oppressors. Instead, He served the needs of the weak and suffered injury from the strong. Because He did not fit their ideal picture of a messiah, the people rejected Him. Mark’s Gospel, probably the earliest account of Jesus’ life, shows us how Jesus upsets our expectations in order to give us something better than we could imagine.

The Mark study in the LifeChange series is quite good. Great notes for context and history. Excellent questions for discussion in a group setting. As with the best of the LifeChange series, this study guide made me really think and notice things I would have otherwise missed. I highly recommend it. P.S. If you want a commentary that pairs well with this study guide, check out Life Application Bible Commentary for Mark published by Tyndale which I also highly recommend.

All of the books in this series are solid theologically and ask good questions. Its the best single series I've personally used for introducing a book along with its purpose and who it was written to (if its an epistle) and why it was written. Very good stuff.

Good book to use for small group Bible study, though I don't agree with everything noted here. But to the end that it promotes further thought and questions about the book of Mark itself, it does a good job.
