Hanna is Not a Boy's Name Volume 1

Rate this book
Hanna Falk Cross is a paranormal investigator. Or at least, that's what his card says. But as people get to know him, one finds that there is not a lot of detective work in Hanna's daily life, but rather more of a mad scramble to get out of whatever mess he so wonderfully landed himself (and others) in.

Having previously worked solo, Hanna now finds himself with a new partner; a man dead for at least a decade with no memory of his life and no desire to unearth it. Shockingly, the dead man has more sense in him than Hanna ever did and begins to dutifully keep track of all of their cases together, all while trying to guide the over-eager boy gently through every day without getting himself killed.

It should be easy enough, but seeing as the man is dead in the first place, he can't vouch for how good he is at staying alive.

Artist. Writer. Draws all sorts of nonsense, varying from horror to bubblegum romance. It's kinda gross.

I went into this rather late...already knowing that there would be no real ending. That it would be unfinished and incomplete. But something about it kept making me want to go back at least to see what the whole fuss was all about. That being said I sat down and read all of the first two chapters and the incomplete 3rd chapter in a matter of hours and I get it...truly. It makes me incredibly sad to know that 'Hanna' will never really be continued, and that we will never know what actually happens with our main paranormal detective Hanna Falk Cross and his mysterious nameless ~zombie sidekick~. Hannas past, and even {...}'s past. Who was he before he died? Not only that but...everything else. Ples? Conrad and the others unexpected attack from this new mysterious vampire hunter character? What really happens? But, alas we shall never know I guess. Regardless, I did love this story and I can see why it still manages to have such a huge following despite everything. I'd still recommend it to anyone and I'll probably even re-read it myself from time to time. I also know that there is a lot of really great fanfiction and fanart out there which I'm sure will suffice if I ever miss Hanna again. Anyway, yes. Definitely a favorite of mine. Do read it if you come across it, the characters and the drawings are extraordinary and I only wish I could see more of them "officially". I've only just read it but I miss it alreadyy!

This is an excellent comic! The characters are engaging, and the art is completely fascinating (You can see heavy influence from manga, but the anatomy is pretty solid and Tessa Stone's background in graphic design keeps her simplifying in consistant and interesting ways).

Stone describes this comic as a "candy-coated horror" and I think that's the most accurate way this can be described using a genre. There are nods to various horror fandoms (zombies, ghosts, Jekyll and Hyde, vampires, werewolves, ect, just go to its tv Tropes page here http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php...), but Tessa pulls them all together in a universe that is exciting and believable and doesn't feel disjointed at all. She injects quite a bit of humor into her character interactions, playing opposites against each other in really fun ways.

Although the author hasn't submitted any pages since Feb 2011, leaving her audience on a terrible cliffhanger, that doesn't mean you shouldn't check this volume out. It's a completed story arc, so no fear of cliffhangers here. I cannot state how important this comic was to me. It literally changed the course of my education. Let me restate that: I switched majors because of this book, from music education to animation.

Warning: If this book was a movie, it might be rated R for gratuitous cussing... I usually stop reading a comic if there's too much cursing in it, but I honestly believe this one is worth recommending.

Cute guys, supernatural forces, a paranormal detective, bromance... it pretty much has everything that turns me into a rabid squealing fangirl.

The art also improves rapidly over the course of just this one volume. The earlier pages look a bit bland compared to later ones, where bold (but not garish) colors and interesting page composition captured my eye.

The story so far follows a "monster of the week" format, with Hanna taking on various cases with his new zombie sidekick. There is the occasional hint and either Hanna or the aforementioned zombie's backstory and usually they gain some new paranormal friend.

Regretfully the comic hasn't updated in nearly a year and might never be finished, so if you manage to find and buy volumes 1 and 2, you will be left with an inconclusive series on your shelf. Tokyopop has given me quite enough of those. :p It is always available to read online for free, of course.

This comic broke my heart into a million pieces and three years after finishing it I still can't help but just be glad it existed for the short time that it did. Please read Hanna is Not a Boy's Name! It's such a rich world full of wonderful characters and experiencing them is well worth the heartache of never knowing what happens to them in the end.

This is one of my all time favorite web comics to date, so happy my sister bought this in book form for me! The storyline is original and keeps me guessing, funny, mysterious, and sometimes touching. The characters are great, each one adding an important element and supernatural flair to the story. And one can't ignore the unique art style. The lines and colors are the best eye candy! Would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading a good story, but doesn't have the time to read an entire book.Plus if you read it online it's free!

I love it. But the fact that Tessa's moved on from the series is forever a burden upon my soul.
