About the author

Jonathan Morduch is a development economist and professor of public policy and economics at NYU’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. A leading expert on microfinance, he has extensively studied the impact of financial services on poverty alleviation. Morduch is managing director of the Financial Access Initiative and chairs the United Nations Committee on Poverty Statistics. He has co-authored influential works such as The Economics of Microfinance and Portfolios of the Poor, which examines how low-income households manage their finances. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
