I have to admit to been a fan of Mr Titchmarsh, I enjoyed his gardening programs and now also this book. I like his practical, do-able no nonsense writing style. This is two volumes combined into one both are based on English gardens so for Canada some things do not apply but having got that out of the way the first volume is an excellent guide, 90% of which applicable here. The second less so, as it lists plants, and materials and building methods not always appropriate here, but again enough bits were helpful, such as propagating techniques section, to make this a very useful reference. The books cover a lot of ground so doesn't go into great detail just giving general rules of thumb which mostly work all time vastly simplifying the approach to gardening. Its comprehensive enough you that you garden quite happily with this as your only reference. I would highly recommend this for beginner gardeners. Mr Titchmarsh is my kind of gardener.
