This book was wonderful and even more meaningful since the author's sister lives in my city and she joined us for our book club discussion in 1997 when we read this. Was hoping there would be a sequel, but I don't know if it ever came to be.

This was an excellent book that I couldn't put down. It is about a young woman who journeys to America to marry a man she doesn't know. He's a Quaker; she's a pagan. She must balance following her own beliefs with those of her neighbors so that she isn't accused of witchcraft.

It’s written in old English, so if you have troubles with thees and thous, I don’t recommend this book. Absolutely fantastic story, only reason for four stars instead of five, is that it didn’t fully feel finished to me. Fantastic read though, the title is ever so slightly misleading.

Edit: I had to come back and give it 5 stars instead, because this story has really stuck with me and I find myself still thinking about it. I’m considering reading it again, but I’d like to get through a little more of my unread stack first.
