The Math Kids are at it again! This time, Justin, Jordan, Catherine, and Stephanie must use all their wits and logic to foil a secret plot…no spoilers here, but I will say that the latest ‘addition’ to the Math Kids series, written by David Cole and published by Common Deer Press is a fun, fast-paced read that shows kids practical applications for math and logic. We’re talking MI6 and London police, all taking direction from the Math Kids gang! The illustrations are an added bonus and the friendships between the Math Kids are realistic. I loved the setting-the locations in and around London were spot on. Overall, The Math Kids will surely capture the interest of young readers hungry for logic puzzles (perhaps older middle graders…I’m still trying to figure out the problem about the prisoners with two black hats and one red hat 😊) and it helps to have sketches and strategies there to help solve the puzzles. For those readers who aren’t big math fans, this book could be used to show them a more fun side to math. The Math Kids-An Artificial Test is recommended by this teacher/librarian for any middle-grade STEM library.
The Math Kids are here for another adventure- and I LOVE that this one is set in London, and that they must save the landmarks across the city! These chapter books give SO much learning- geography, math, problem-solving, social/emotional- while also being entertaining and interesting.
The addition of math problems throughout (with diagrams/graphs), as well as pictures, really makes these stories engaging!
If you have a math lover in your family or class, these will definitely be a hit!
