I've been a massive fan of Will Simpson's Vamps for decades - Sorely disappointed that never got picked up for a movie - but I hear its a Vertigo rights issue. So you can imagine my delight when I heard Will simpson was returning to the subject of female vamps with attitude on a different label...

VMT is indeed a lot of fun. We follow three very different female vampires: Sun, a newly bitten vampire who seems to have been bitten during PMT - massive attitude and fairly uncontrolled rage against men; Mercy who was bitten by a priest and has a vendetta against men of god; and finally Sheherazade a goddess who seems to inhale souls as much as blood. While these girls aren't thus far as charismatic as the girls in vamps, I do like how different they are, and the fact that they don't sparkle but go for the jugular.

The Marquis De Sade and his monstrous vampire/monk lover the Monsigner (who turned Mercy) are torturing local prostitutes and scarificing them to resurrect a Lovecraftian dark god.

We have a police officer trying to connect the murders and a female vampire hunter with a tortured past behedding the ghouls Sun leaves behind. Our hunters and three vamps all end up at De Sade's slaughterhouse for a big showdown....

So this ticks a lot of boxes for me. Lovecraftian tentacle gods, female vampires with attitude, great dialogue, a lot of action and bite - as with vamps its quite cinematic too. We don't get a huge amount of back story/character development in this first volume - I hope more comes in subsequent volumes - especially Sheherazade.

Over all though, big thumbs up from me. If you like Vamps and the American Vampire series this is right up your street.
