Apparently everyone wants to be in a couple for school trip time.
It's funny to me how many of these series include a "school trip" episode, and how rarely they actually show anything of the place they go, or have any adventures beyond personal interactions.
What adorable children are these. It's a good thing I read this at home, I spent this entire volume in a state of intense physical agitation. Noooooo stop being so cute, excuse me while I fling my arms outward in a feeble attempt to express all the feelings I am currently happening. Why are you so adorable? Why are you so sweet? Why is this supporting cast so great? Why can I find no adequate way to express all the joy welling up in my chest?
Yano is my favorite. I love her. Also Sawako is a cutie. I love her as well.
Okay a new dude and a possible new girl? This should be interesting. I kind of like how the focus isn't just on Kazehaya and Sawako, but they still feel like the main characters. I feel like shojos sometimes get boring after the couple gets together, but the story still has a lot of elements to move it forward without feeling like it's dragging and I want to read more.

My Thoughts:
Another cute volume.
Ryu seems close to revealing his feelings to Chizu. She's actually starting to pick up on them, I think. When they were at the beach and he was holding her hand, she kept thinking it was weird. Open your eyes and heart, Chizu. You've got a really great guy in front of you. Look at him! If you aren't careful, some random chick is going to make a move on him! I don't think Ryu would be the type to go out with a girl when he's already in love with Chizu, but still! I just need her to become a little more aware of him.
Then we have Yano-chin who has never actually confessed her feelings to a boy. She's dated older guys, but it seems she only dates boys when they ask her out. She doesn't seem like she particularly likes any of them as people. She's just kind of going with it. Why she's like that, I have no clue. It will be an interesting thing to see once Yano-chin finally falls in love...
Sawako and Kazehaya are cute as ever. I can't wait for them to be able to call each other by their first names more regularly. For now, they blush like made whenever one of them does it. Sawako actually calls Kazehaya Shota for the first time when she goes to his place to meet his family. It was adorable. His family seems to like her, too. I was happy for them.
Now the gang is in Okinawa for their school trip. I just know big things are ahead. A lot can happen when you're away from home...
Super cute and incredibly awkward, but I couldn't stop reading it!!
These are probably the most pure characters you will ever read about in the entire history of manga. Like, I seriously couldn't get past how relatable this is. Also; RYU. PLEASE. I AM ROOTING FOR YOU.
On the one hand, I LOVED the first half of the volume. On the second hand, I didn't really love the second half.
The beach trip was awesome! I especially like that scene with Chizu. *wiggles eyebrows* Seriously, I'm all for that ship sailing any day now. LOL!
Sawako meeting Kazehaya's family and her inner thoughts was SO adorable (despite the "big boobs" thing *rolls eyes*)! I really liked how Sawako viewed his family and how Kazehaya's dad expressed his liking/approval of Sawako.
The school trip was…okay? I'm not sure what I feel exactly. I see how this is a perfect time for relationships to bloom and dating to happen, but I really like the friendship aspect as a whole and not sure I'm ready for EVERYONE to be dating just yet.
Anyone else find the undies talk unnecessary? *sigh*
I'm hesitantly curious to see what happens in the next volume...
4/5 Volume 12 had the couple meeting Sawako's family. Volume 13 finally introduces Shota's family and Sawako finally visits his home and meets them. The series continues to be easy reading with feel good slice of life story telling. There is no real drama at the moment just the character's figuring each other out in a nice coming of age story.
A little later in the volume it is nice to see the teenagers act a little more like normal teenagers would. Though only a little bit. I can't imagine that Japanese teenagers are all that different from the rest of the world. They can't really all be so reserved and prude. I imagine them to be more like what you see in Great Teacher Onizuka. Pervy, loud, and disrespectful. But it's not that kind of story and that's fine it works and I'm still enjoying the series.
Shota and his little brother Tota on the cover this time.
~4/5 I just love this series; that's all there is to it. It's an amazing series and I'm always eager for the next one. (Plus, you know you love a book when you have a grin on your face the whole time your reading it, even if you try not to because you're in public.) In the first chapter, the group goes to the beach, where romance is in the air. Sawaka is off with Kazehaya, who says she looks cute (after Ayane unbuttons the top of her uniform shirt and shortens her skirt), and they build, what I think is supposed to be, a sandcastle. Sawaka asks him what he talked about with her father, which is cute, and then he invites her to his house. Meanwhile, Chizu is having a arm-wrestling competition with the guys who are flirting with her. When Ryu comes up, he wrestles her, wins, and takes a walk with her while holding her hand. Ayane, at the same time, is talking with Kento, who lays his head on her shoulder. This is a big step for Ryu and Chizu, but not much else develops between them. Kento, though, shows up several times, and it's obvious something is going to happen with him, and while I'm sure it will be with Ayane, I feel there's something else there we're not being told about yet. In the next two chapter, it's Sawako's turn to meet the family. She first meets his mother, who is sweet and homely, before they go up to Kazehaya's room. They're supposed to study, but instead start looking at pictures, and then start talking. They end up telling each other when they first found out that they liked each other, are surprised by how long ago it was, and then get off on calling each other by their first name. (I don't really understand this, or I didn't used to, but I understand that's it's a big thing in Japan, and so it doesn't bother me anymore.) It's super adorable, especially when Sawako calls him Shota, and they both just about die from embarrassment. (Also, I kind of love his name. Shota Kazehaya [or is it Kazehaya Shota?]. It just seems so fitting for him.) They are just too cute. I love seeing them getting closer, getting comfortable around each other. I just love it. I also like seeing Sawako getting more confident in herself, which is more obvious in this volume since she is speaking up more with her friends, and is more open while talking with the girls. And it's nice to see her being bold when it comes to Kazehaya. (I'm hoping a kiss is in their near future. A kiss on the lips would be nice, but I thought earlier that one on the cheek would be just perfect. For either one of them to plant it, too. Ahhhh, I'm just fangirling all over the place over here!) What was I saying? Oh, right... They are interrupted (before anything can happen, although I don't think anything would have) by Kazehaya's mother. They're then sent out to bring ice cream to his father and the baseball team, including his little brother. His little brother is cute and blunt, like little kids are. His father, though, is stern and 'dignified', but could be seen as a little mean. This is mostly just sweet, and good for Sawako. Within the next two chapter, they're all getting ready for the school trip, now that school has started up again. (I'm so jealous of how many trips they take in manga; do they actually take that many in real life in Japan?) They get in groups, and the girls talk about where they're going and talk some about the boys. Ayane gets asked out by a boy name Mogi in a different class (who I thought was someone else until we learned his name, and so was confused. But we'd never met him before, so that's cleared up), and says yes, before they leave for Okinawa. I like seeing the girls talk about the boys, it's so refreshing and fun. (But maybe that's only me, because I've never really done that? It is good for Sawako, though.) And it's so funny when Ayane teases Kazehaya, trying to push their relationship forward. For instance, when she tells him that Sawako is wearing panties with strings on them, and he gets all embarrassed and can't stop thinking about it. I love seeing him fight with his physical attraction to Sawako, try to hold himself back; that's sometimes harder to find, in manga and novels, and so I always get excited when I see it. Anyway, the volume ends with some girl (from another class, and who they don't show us) asking for Ryu. Aside from that, the girls and boys are having fun, and teasing each other. Like I said at the beginning, I love this series. I can't help myself from fangirling over it everytime. It's so smoothly put together, a little elegant and subtle, lighthearted, maybe nostalgic. Pretty. A great, simple story of a first love. It is just so fantastic, and I... don't know what else to say about it. But that I love it. On a sidenote, I am seriously thinking about starting the anime. And looking up the live-action movie (have they been translated/released with subtitles? They should be). Shiina has mentioned them both in the side bar of the last few volumes, and it makes me curious and excited, and like I want to start it right this instant. Another sidenote: is VIZ going to be slowing down the release schedule soon? Because I noticed that we're almost all caught up, which is usually when the releases get farther apart. I don't think I've noticed it happening yet, though. I'm hoping not, because, you know, I love it and don't want to have to wait. I'm dreading it, but am thinking it's going to start happening soon. so much new content i’m obsessed so much happened from sawako meeting kazehayas family for the first time and them being more of a couple the side characters are going through some feelings and a school trip i’m excited -
RYU IS SO BOLD I LOVE HIM chizu also slowly falling for him oh my i love these two so so much kazehaya and sawako are just so adorable the way they try to call each other by their first name and when she met his family also i love them now where tf did mogi came from 😭
This time the friends go to the beach and Kazehaya and Sadako manage to hold hands a bit and talk about their families (especially since Kazehaya already visited Sadako's house) - Aya and Chizuru are on the one hand pleased for Sadako, on the other hand they want to tease her a bit for the fact that she has got a boyfriend and they haven't (well, it's more Aya's problem than Chizuru's).
At the beach another romance is put into play a bit more (although the girl in question - Chizuru - isn't really aware of that yet). Ryu makes a few moves that get Chizuru to see him as different from her preconception as childhood friend. Ryu being Ryu he's quite satisfied with ruffling her calm.
Kenta and Ayane have a bit of a heart to heart: first it looks as if he just wants to tease Ayane because she's the only one of the three girls without a boy around her and then it becomes clear that he's hoping for a bit of sympathy while determinedly burying his surprising crush on Sadako (if he were less of a suave player, I'd have more sympathy for him actually being surprised into love there).
And then Sadako visits and meets Kazehaya's family - not only is it cute to see how she looks for Kazehaya in all of them and tries her best to make a good impression - I found it totally sweet that when the two of them are up in his room, we can totally see that not only Sadako is utterly shy in the relationship but Shota (whose first real love this is, too) - usually so confident in his role as friend, classmate - can hardly handle when Sadako tries to say his first name. Both of them are amazed to find out when the other fell for them - and respectively how early in their acquaintance that was ^^ (yes, it took a good long while, but Shiina-sensei managed to make clear just why that was so for both of them).
And then we turn a bit of a spotlight on Ayane, who suddenly gets confessed to by a schoolmate none of them have ever met before. Because she has been somewhat envious of Sadako and her feelings (and of Chizuru and Ryu, even as Chizu remains largely clueless) - she decides to accept his confession and become his girlfriend. He is the first boy of the same age who has ever confessed to her, after all.
And so the class trip to Hokkaido starts - and Sadako gets to see a Kazehaya in casual clothes, and to talk with her girlfriends about cute underwear (and Ayane gets to be really wicked and tell Kazehaya what kind of underwear Sadako is wearing at the moment, heh)...

Series Review: What I like about the series the most is that while some things about the story seem a bit hard to believe (mostly Sawako's social awkwardness and utter lack of perception), is that once you accepted things proceed in a very realistic fashion. One of the things I love the most is that the story does not dive head first into a romance plot, but lets the main character come to terms with finding her place in the classroom and with her new-found friends first. Most appreciated is that most of the time the characters actually talk to each other when it comes to misunderstandings instead of just letting them stew until they absolutely have to be dealt with. A huge plus is that the humour of the series actually makes me smile, even laugh at times and that it deals with growing up and deciding on what to do with your future in a realistic way. What grates on my nerves quite a bit are the ever-present gender stereotypes that come up time and time again, especially when the plot finally moves towards a romance plot for not only Sawako, but her two best friends as well. (Especially the handling of Ayane and Chizu's romance is not quite to my liking. But well maybe I just wish that Ayane was gay and Chizu could have stayed a tomboy not interested in romance for a bit longer ;D) And what I love about the series the most is the deep friendship of three rather different girls that mean the world to each other!
Overall I'd give the series 3,5 to 4 stars (some individual volumes are better some are more average). Usually this type of slice-of-life, romance is not my cup of tea, but Kimi ni todoke manages to be charming, realistic and quite funny :)
After meeting Sawako's parents, of course we must also meet Kazehaya's, and that's precisely what happens. Afterwards, we also get the beginning of a vacation arc in which a school trip takes place and the gang is paired up together in a group--more to follow.
On that front, what I thought stood out most about this volume is how we're finally getting more in-depth with the Ayane-relationship and Chizu-relationship part of things. For Chizu, it's fairly straightforward by this point that she'll probably end up with Ryu, although of course our girl's too dense to realize it just yet.
As for Ayane though...she's definitely more complex. She's the most mature of the three friends, and definitely has the most experience with guys after dating older men as well. But as for actually liking someone, she's a bit of a black box in that you can't tell what she's thinking or whether she is serious about someone or not. I guess it's easy to label someone like that--and the other girls, apart from her friends, do--but I think the author's trying to represent her as an enigma, someone who can't be understood on the surface because what they're thinking isn't always clear or easy to follow. Does she like anyone? Is she capable of loving anyone? Or is there some part of her past that makes it hard for her to really connect to someone in that intimate way?
I love kimi ni todoke :) it's one of the cutest mangas I've read but i have to admit it does take them some time to really get deeper in their relationship but that's what makes it interesting...i don't like when the main characters already kiss (unless it's a mistake) and fall completly in love in the first chapters...i like details lol
Kimi ni Todoke is such a cute manga that makes me smile everytime I read it. I almost feel like buying the volumes I haven’t read but my money situation sucks. It's been a long time since some manga has make me feel as much as Kimi ni Todoke does.
Now that Kazehaya met Sawako's parents, its now her turn to meet his parents. This was like with the other volumes thus far, kind of sweet but also very funny. Good volume.
🇬🇧 I'm not such a fan of the Mogi thing going on now, but I like that there is a class trip. Somehow, school trips in romantic books are full of drama but they are usually funny too, so it will definitely get more interesting.
