In “The Protected,” book 1 of the Spirian series, Skye, a 45-year-old woman who believes her life is over, is launched into a world where anything is possible. She is destined to marry Khalen Dunning, a Spirian clan leader with a dark and mysterious past.In “The Union,” book 2 of the Spirian series, Khalen and Skye are united as mates. Skye begins to learn the Spirian ways and eases into her roll as the infamous “Legend.”In “Legend,” book 3 of the Spirian series, Skye carries twins, a pregnancy that is far too risky to carry full term. With her infallible charm, she convinces her mate, Khalen to let her proceed. Despite every instinct that warns him to take one of the twins, he concedes to her wishes.During the council meeting that occurred in “The Union,” the Shadows had been ordered to release their women and halflings, leaving only one mate per male. They do not heed that decree, and Khalen is impelled to enforce the laws in his territory. This, of course, stirs the Shadow’s wrath and generates a new war between the clans. In the midst of the war, both Skye and Khalen find a powerful strength and unravel the mysteries of their past. The truth creates a quandary for their unborn twins and their future together. Through it all, they discover that power belongs to those who wield it wisely. It is not the demonstration of strength to destroy, but to build and unite with the unfathomable balance in all things.

The chauvinism is becoming too much. You can’t just leave women untrained on how to protect themselves! It’s a good story but getting pretty annoying to me

This book was fun to write. It brought out some interesting memories that I had suppressed for many years. When Khalen forced Skye to talk about her horse, Keko, I felt my chest compress. I hadn't thought about my horse for many years, and having Skye recall and voice my memories of him was both painful and therapeutic.

Another helpful realization was the fact that we are who we are. Running from ourselves or denying that which is strong in us is futile.

In this book, Skye finally understands that being a legend is not always about the person framed with such a label. Sometimes legends are meant to establish hope in others who believe in the legend's message. The battle between good and evil claim a few casualties proving that no war is won, it is only fought.
