Following the successful Bathrooms and Living Rooms , Country Living's EASY TRANSFORMATIONS series presents its third, beautiful a guide to turning those small but awkward spaces into appealing, cozy corners.
Every home has its tiny room, oddly shaped hallway, empty landing, or other difficult-to-decorate area. As the array of photographs shows, Country Living offers dozens of innovative approaches to solving the problem. Every design idea will quickly make that neglected space a model of decorative style for the entire home. The topics so richly covered include Welcoming in Style, Themes and Collections, Forgotten Spaces, Perfecting Your Palette, Creating Nooks and Crannies in any Room, Making Spaces Work, and Crafting Corners for Pets. Some of the ideas are as simple as varying the sizes and heights of objects in a display for visual interest. Other concepts will help free home decorators from old design tenets and bring some fresh air into the décor, such as creatively mixing formal and informal elements or adding unusual pieces. There are specific suggestions on storage and seating, and for strategically repeating colors and themes. Smart tips and easy, fun-to-do projects help jump-start the transformation, while detailed captions for the photos and many sidebars reveal exactly how the transformation was accomplished. Love, love, love interior decorating books, even when the state of my house is so clutter, dirty, and depressing. Nice little book, but not much to it!
Best advice from decorating/organizational books? Organized people do not store things on the floor. That was my downfall, clearly, allowing anything to be stored on the floor....
I'm very into home decoration magazines and books atm. I've been buying lots of home makeover magazines and I've started to look around for interesting books too. "Small Spaces and Cozy Corners" wasn't as good as I expected though. I thought I'd get advice on how to make the most of a small place (if that's all you have). This book is more about adding perfectly decorated corners to a nicely decorated spacious home. And some of it is way too American. I'm really not into putting flags outside my home or pictures of ex-presidents on the walls... But there are some good ideas in the book to think about. I'm considering printing out some of the charming old family pictures that I borrowed from my mother and aunts and scanned, and displaying them on my hallway walls in pretty frames. :)
The title of this work is a bit deceptive. This is NOT a work about a small spaces home. It is a book about various small spaces within a home ... the top of a table, a stair, a hidden corner. If you are looking for some reference material regarding decorating a small home, condo or apartment - look elsewhere.
Some good tips, but most of the photos are of early American and Victorian decor, which is not my style and was hard to pull ideas from the photos if you know what I mean
