“..it was possible to crawl inside the mind of a person who lived thousands of years ago in a strange part of the world and begin to see life as they saw it. And when I started looking at the Bible through a different set of eyes - their eyes - it’s miraculous content suddenly burst into a colorful three-dimensional painting…” (pg 186)
That pretty much explains what I would write as a review of this book. Packed full of great insights to the culture/customs in which the Bible was written. It would be like a sermon preached today that mentions any social networking site that doesn’t exist in 2,000 years. They, those that live 2,000 years in the future, would need to someone to tell them…. This is just one book does that for the Bible.

Wow fantastic review of ancient customs we are totally unaware of in our western society. This was great revelation and insight into the kids off Jesus and why he did some of what he did.

Okay, seat belts fastened? Then you are ready to read this book. What a great ride into the Jewish culture surrounding the many customs we completely miss out on when WE read the Bible. Many of those moments where we say to ourselves, "That's a weird thing for them to do!", can be explained through cultural studies - and this book gets into it! We take a DEEP look at the Last Supper and many of the utterly missed moments that are clearly presented to us, yet we have no way of catching them. We are lost and missing out on so much and don't even know it!
For me, the most impressive realization was the meaning behind the Broken Bread. Bread, simple bread holds so much meaning, and we just thought it was food. Grab this book, read it, pass it on... Communion, salvation, reading the Bible, all these things will take on new meaning just by peeking around the corner at Jay McCarl's wonderfully refreshing journey into the Last Supper and all that surrounds it.

Revealing look at the significance of shared meals in Jesus' time. This book is good enough to share (which I did, and now need to buy another...)
