"Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion." Jack Welch, former CEO, GE
The Innovative Leader stresses the importance of innovation and creativity in modern business to help organizations secure competitive advantage over rivals. It shows how to apply the methods described to the individual, to others and to the organization.
Author Paul Sloane demonstrates the importance of setting out your vision clearly and emphasizes the need for continual evaluation of the process. Numerous international examples illustrate how organizations such as Virgin, Body Shop, WPP and 3M have benefited from this approach, encouraging excellence and entrepreneurship through setting challenging goals to keep employees motivated and engaged.
Paul Sloane read Engineering at Trinity Hall Cambridge. He came top of Sales School at IBM, became MD of Ashton-Tate UK, VP International for MathSoft and CEO of Monactive. He now writes, speaks and gives workshops on lateral thinking in business, creativity, innovation and leadership. He is married and lives in Camberley in Surrey. He has three grown-up daughters. He is a keen chess and tennis player and he plays keyboards in a rock band, the Fat Cats. He has written a series of lateral thinking puzzle books, many co-authored with Des MacHale, published by Sterling Publishing. They have sold over 2 million copies and been translated into many languages. He has also written two management books, published by Kogan Page, and many articles for blogs and websites. He manages the Lateral Puzzles Forum where puzzlers can set and solve lateral puzzles.
This book is intended for those leaders who desire to become themselves and their team masters of invention and creativity. The concept of lateral thinking is central to it. It is a collection of methods and strategies intended to uncover radically fresh solutions to issues by attacking them from the side as opposed to the front. It guides leaders who want to transform their companies, managers tasked with fostering innovation, and people who wish to be more innovative. It is based on observations and learnings from leading innovation workshops globally and collaborating with corporate executives. The book is written to be read in manageable, bite-sized bits, making it perfect for leaders who are busy but want to launch a revolution in their company. It offers some ground-breaking advice that managers and leaders interested in organizational innovation would find to be quite beneficial.
The Innovative Leader by Paul Sloane is the most interesting and helpful I have read. It is because of not only the information, stories, and structure but also plenty of notes and ideas have come while enjoying reading the book. https://vebimo.wordpress.com/2015/08/...
