Like Jensen's other books, I have yet to find one that has detailed how-to-implement ideas or examples. So it has great ideas, but I'm left trying to figure out how to put it practice on my own. Unless I go to one of his week-long workshops I guess. This one is a set of vague lists of how-to implement brain-based learning techniques, about 5-6 to each idea, of which is there is one page devoted to each. For instance, on "Schedule Brain Breaks," one of his suggestions is "write you name with body parts: Have the students stand up and "write" their first name with their elbow, their middle name with their other elbow, the last name with their hip, their best friend's name with their other hip and a parent's name with their head." In this book, there is no explanation for why any of these work, although he does give the reasons for each. In this case, he says that students can only take in so much, and they need a brain break. The book is so packed full, that you couldn't possibly put all of it into practice. For me, a book with the five-ten best ideas and much more detail of how to implement them would have been much more helpful.

GREAT book based on new cognitive brain-based research on learning. This book contains lots of strategies to help children of all ages learn more effectively in the classroom and at home. However, one must keep in mind that every person/child learns differently, so no one strategy will work the same in the same situation or any situation. These guidelines target the average student and should/will make a difference with those students. However, not all students are AVERAGE, nor have they reached the average point in development for their age in a specific domain - all children develop at different rates - and that means NOTHING according to eventual success in life. That is not just MY opinion, but this can be backed up by statistics, research, etc! This is a book in which you need to order the PAPERBACK COPY unless you can get a download that you can print individual pages.

This book is really disappointing. All the "strategies" were basically different variations on bringing in a guest speaker, changing scenery, or making graphic organizers. It was really vague and not at all helpful. Also, why are there so many typos!?
