After a slow, muddy start, this book grows in appeal and clarity. Clinical psychiatrist Rich posits that life is made up of moments, each an opportunity to celebrate oneself or others. By celebration, he doesn't mean party hats and togas, though; instead, he means recognizing, appreciating, and valuing someone and--importantly--communicating this to them. Individuals, especially children, "whose…qualities are recognized and appreciated" mature into grounded, "durable" people. Rich's personal experiences and those of his patients reveal ways to build this durability. While many moments in our busy world are lost forever, this genuine, heartfelt book reminds us that new ones are always around the corner.

A very easy read that helps to put you in the right frame of mind to be in the moment and celebrate yourself and those you hold dear.

I wanted to like it more than I did. It's a good important idea but most of the book is flat.
